lols, that's not running the show. Steve has been running the show because he's the figurehead. he's the one everyone identifies with Apple products. It doesn't matter if he handed the reigns over a year or so ago, he is the one in charge according to public perception and public perception is the only way Apple moves products.

Talk about perception.....on MSN's home page, Jobs' resignation is in a big, red banner at the top of the page, like the earthquake was.

CNN has it at its top of page with "Breaking News" in a photo of Jobs, much like Yahoo has done. Guess MSN overblows a lot.....but, again, perception.

Uh, Jobs is still alive and still an Apple employee.

1. Defeat Samsung
2. ???
3. Retire! 🙂

Except no, because Apple didn't get what they wanted. If Samsung makes a small modification to the part where Apple is claiming patent infringement, they can continue selling their Galaxy line like normal.

On topic:

This was just a matter of time, really. Jobs' battle with pancreatic cancer has seen him get a lot less healthy and the 'only' job he's been doing recently is as a figurehead. Cook's probably the one making the decisions for some time now.

If you dig a bit deeper, Apple didn't really win. The judge rejected most of their infringement claims, and had Apple's patents themselves been under scrutiny, some probably would have been found invalid (for example, a phone released back in 2005 had the swipe-to-unlock mechanism years before Apple patented it and released the iPhone). And Samsung plans to release a software update that will allow them to easily get around the injunction before it would even go into effect.

Come on $99 iPads!! :sneaky:

$99 is the affordable price point, right? That means Apple will never price them there...

And LOL at all the "He's still an Apple employee!" sentiment I've seen so far. The janitor is an Apple employee, do you want to put your money on him? John Elway is still a Broncos employee, do you want to put your money on him as QB for another Super Bowl?

LOL at the stupid shits who think Apple is going to tank overnight because of this.

Bookmarking this thread and will bump when the iPhone 5 gives Apple another record quarter.

In my mind a lot of Apple's value is its "fashion". Its very fashionable to have Apple products. If it becomes apparent that Apple can't stay fashionable without Steve Jobs in charge, then Apple is going to lose a lot of value.

Like most fads, there is a herd mentality that takes hold on the way up. Once the market is saturated, the herd runs away from the fad.

Apple is still holding onto the "I'm unique because I have an iPod/iPhone/iPad" angle, but at some point people will realize that it isn't so unique.

If you'll care to read the thread you'll notice that I didn't predict an overnight tanking, I was predicting 5 years.

That doesn't really fucking matter. Have you paid any attention to Apple over the last decade? Everything has been presented as Steve Jobs vision, now he's exiting people will assume with his vision. It doesn't matter if privately he wasn't running the show, publicly he was.

I'm definitely curious to see what happens now. Not necessarily in the perception driven stock market, but in the future decision making of Apple. If things change in that Dept we'll know how much Jobs brought to the table.

I honestly doubt much will change, he seems to have guided them down a path which would be quite hard to deviate from and probably incredibly stupid to deviate from. What they really need is a new salesman. Apple has never got by on innovation, they've gotten by having the best salesman in the business.

I bet you in five years Facebook will start tanking and Zuck will be in command and in his prime. Five years is a looonnnggg way out and Jobs is neither dead or totally disinvolved with Apple.

Even with Jobs stepping down as CEO I'd say they are in wayyyy better shape than any other tech company out there.
