Everyone keeps talking about his "vision" and how much of a "visionary" he was. I think this really undersells just how great of a salesman he was and tarnishes his reputation as such. The guy didn't have a vision, he sold you one. As spidey put it, he took the technology out of technology. Not because he made it easier to use, but because he sold us on it. He sold us on the fact that this was the future. How often did Apple release the best product they could possibly offer? Almost never, they could have always of thrown in more processing power, battery juice, storage capacity, etc, they didn't have to though because Steve could sell a blind man a Rembrandt. Because of his great salesmanship he pushed us in a good direction.

Apple was first to commercialize the GUI for the masses, as IBM had earlier done with the PC for businesses. Took Windows about 10 years to catch up, which is a long time in technology.

He might not be a technological visionary, but he had final say on Apple products and who knows what wasn't released. He's had a very high success rate of product launches. He is at the very least a visionary businessman and one of the top businessmen to have lived. Taking a company on the brink of bankruptcy to being the worlds most valuable company is no small task and he by and large is responsible for that. He's not just a salesman.He is a business icon. Love him or hate him.

Sad to hear, but with him quitting Apple was not a good sign about his deteriorating health. He knew his days were numbered. RIP. :'(

Played with Apple II Plus when it came out, besides the C64 I would own years later. At that point computers and the endless hours of tweaking made me an addict to a hobby till this day.

I agree with previous posters, I hate his company but I respect what he did for the PC.

RIP Jobs. Hopefully you and Disney are scheming on how to take over the world.

RIP. I still think AAPL's products are overpriced for what they are, but the user interface and everything created under his watch is revolutionary. Other manufacturers have been simply playing catch-up with AAPL.
