I'm black and I voted for McCain. The majority of black people that I know and that are in my family voted for Obama. At least 85% of them voted for him because he was black. I don't hold that against them though mainly because hes the FIRST "black" president, which is why most of them did it.
Neither political side is anywhere close to perfect.
I vote republican because I will be rich someday, while I imagine some who vote democrat doubt they will ever be "rich" someday, or even "well-off" for that matter(though not all). In the end though I don't worry too much about which is in power as ill make a good life for myself regardless.
It upsets me to an extent when I hear today's "racism" compared to the racism of 40-200 years ago and etc. People used to be chained up, auctioned off, drenched with high-pressure water-hoses, and even for Native Americans; "The only good Indian, is a dead one" mentality. The fact is the people back then would've given anything to only have to deal with the type of "racism" we have today. As far as affirmative action goes, really there should be such a thing for every race(including whites). It would bother me if an all black company was refusing to hire people of different race, and if you believe that all men are equal, you know eventually a situation like that might arise.
In the move Meet the Titans, there's a part where the co-coach?(a white guy) shows leniency on a black guy who fumbles the ball, and Denzel Washington's character gets very upset with him, eventually telling him that "you're crippling them, you're crippling them for life."
Black people started off with a disadvantage, and itll take some time for that to stop affecting us. But opportunity for success, or at the very least, financial independance, has been around for awile now. Programs like welfare that push this indefinite cushion between people and rock bottom inevitably only serve to weaken people. The fact is people need that rock bottom there to "wake up" or to never stop trying to succeed in the first place. If we're going to give people some type of welfare, it's alot better to use it for education in regards to finances, or college, or even public transportation, than just to put food in a mouth and a roof over a head.
