That's one of the many things you can do.

There are over 300 towns, cities, and military bases. Each one has a number of things you can destroy and a number of items you can pick up (money stashes and upgrade parts). Once you have picked up every item and destroyed everything important, you get 100% for that settlement and it gives you a bonus in terms of chaos points and money.

Technically, what you're supposed to do is advance the story by completing agency missions (basically, the main quest). But before you can even do an agency mission, you have to get enough chaos points first. You get those by doing faction missions (side quests) and by just blowing stuff up.

The real point of the game, though, is that it's a big wide-open sandbox where you can go around, blow stuff up, complete races, and just have fun. Dying doesn't really set you back. If you're a completionist, you can try to get 100% in every settlement. That'll take a long time though.

I have long since gotten enough chaos points just from going around and destroying stuff to unlock every agency mission, but I haven't finished the game yet. The storyline isn't really compelling, it's just a basic framework so you have something to do when you don't feel like free roaming. Still, I'd say the vast majority of the time I've played the game has been free roaming.

I've been getting used to the controls and it's turning out to be real fun. I got in an attack chopper and was flying about places and damn there's a huge area to explore in this game.

lol, the game is just over 6 months old, and can be had for $5?

I hope they put Deus Ex on tomorrow. I've never played them and would be willing to jump for 5 bucks or less.

I passed during the Christmas sale.

i want the last remnant:(

Picked up the Hitman series for like $7-ish. Great games. As for Deus Ex, bought it over the holiday sale but it won't run. Quad core/Win 7 x64/GTX 460. Not sure what to do to get it running, but haven't really investigated yet.

I'd give this guide a try then.

It fixed some issues I was having with DE on Win7x64 and the updated textures/high resolutions make it look much better. I'm running the DX9 renderer.

so I read somewhere in another thread here that a wired 360 controller for Xbox will work just as well on the PC, right? They make the controllers for Windwos, but they are about $10 more at Amazon.

So do they work just the same? Or does one need software, and possibly some sort of USB adapter? I'm not familiar with Xbox, so I'm not sure about the interface.

It also seems that the 360 gamepad emulator can work with a PS3 gamepad on PC, but it kind of fucks up the gamepad when you try to use it with the PS3 again, right?

There's no difference between the wired Xbox 360 controller and the wired controller for Windows (except the one for Windows comes with a driver CD that's useless if you have internet access).

There is also a wireless controller for Windows, which comes with a USB wireless receiver.

The only thing to avoid really is the play and charge cable. A wireless controller with a play and charge cable will not work on a computer. You have to have the wireless receiver. But if you don't care about wireless, just get whichever wired controller is cheapest.

sweet. I didn't realize that XBox used USB. I always thought it was something different...though USB makes sense.

Yup I bought a wired 360 controller for super cheap. Most games already have built in support for 360 controllers which is cool.

Download MotionJoy. The PS3 controller won't just work when plugged in to the PC; you need the drivers that MotionJoy installs to get it to work. After that, it will always work when plugged in, and all you should have to do is re-sync it to your PS3 by plugging it in when you want to use it with the PS3 again. This might not even be necessary since the controller is not becoming synced to your PC's bluetooth, but I don't have a PS3 to test with. You will also want to select "360 controller emulation mode" in the MotionJoy options and hit enable. This will make your PC think that the PS3 controller is an Xbox 360 controller. You even have the option to remap the buttons if one of your games doesn't give you the option to.

If you want to use the controller wirelessly, you'll have to get a bluetooth dongle if you don't have one. After that, you plug in the controller, sync it with MotionJoy, unplug, and play away. To charge it, turn off the controller before plugging into the PC otherwise you'll have issues syncing it with the PC next time. To sync it with the PS3 again, you'll do the same as described above.

A third party wireless PS3 controller with a USB dongle is the best option. MotionJoy will detect the controller as a wired controller, so you don't have to sync it at all or have bluetooth. When the controller dies, it won't interrupt anything (you won't have to restart your game) because MotionJoy still thinks it's plugged in. All you'll have to do is replace the batteries (helps to have rechargables), and turn the controller back on.

So I've started playing Just Cause 2, and the controls are just killing me (literally).
The weapon management system is pretty messy, I keep getting confused which mouse button is actually shooting and just end up lobbing grenades everywhere.

The airplane controls are absolutely unbearable. As far as I can tell, theres actually no way to control the rudder, leaving banking the only way to make course corrections. That itself wouldn't be so bad except that the camera is detached with no pitch / bank angle indication and the result is well... not pretty.

Is there a way to lock the camera directly behind the plane or into first person mode while flying?

yeah, I played for 20 or so minutes....and this is why I'm now looking for a functioning gamepad--my current one is also crud. KB/mouse just isn't working for this game. I, too, was lobbing grenades at my feet, quite constantly. :D

You know, I think I had looked at the MotionJoy software somewhere else before, but remember reading some review that it mucks around with the gamepad itself--so your pS3 controller might involve a lot of tinkering to get it work properly on the PS3 again. I just didn't want to deal with that hassle (not that I've played a PS3 game for 2 years, anyway)

I ordered the 360 gamepad this morning. :\

It took me a good 2 hours to get used to the controls. I have ~9hrs into the game and I still have control mistakes from time to time that make me die. I commented on that when I jumped on the deal last week. I tried a 360 controller but it's even worse since it's much more imprecise.
