Is the original Just Cause any good? JC2 was one of my favorite games of last year.

I liked the original Just Cause A LOT. Having said that, once you've playing JC2, it might be hard going back to the restrictions that came with the original.

I think it's worth it tho, I put just as much time into the original as I did the sequel.

Personally, skip Just Cause 2. Horrible voice acting and the controls/animations/actions just felt clumsy to me.

Wish I'd noticed BAA for sale though.

Maybe they'll do a recap sale Friday/this weekend.

Voice acting is horrible on purpose, it very much plays into the hokey angle of the rest of the game.

I loved the controls personally, but I used a 360 controller with it, never tried mouse/kb to any extent.

Just Cause 2 is without a doubt in my top 5 games of 2010. Plus, if you have the hardware to push it to the max, it is one of the best looking games of last year as well.

Good enough of a review for me. Damn you Steam!

It certainly looks fun, however I think my pokey system would cry trying to run it.

Picked up AA yesterday and JC2 today. KB/M is fine with Batman (what a polished game). :biggrin:I will try a controller for JC2 ...

I own both from earlier sales.

Batman is a great game. I played for a couple hours months ago, and just started getting back into it last week. It controls just fine with a keyboard and mouse. They did a good job with the default key mapping - everything is easy to reach. A lot of third-person action games control strangely on PC and work better with a gamepad, but I actually found Batman AA to be better with a keyboard and mouse. Either one works though.

Just Cause 2 is a lot of fun if you just want a wide open sandbox. A wide, wide, wide open sandbox. The story is completely stupid, but don't concern yourself with that. It's got plenty of angles - sandbox fans will love exploring the islands, vehicle fans can have a lot of fun with the various planes, helicopters, and boats (cars suck though), and there's no shortage of explosions. And there are over 300 settlements scattered throughout the map, each of which has various items to collect and stuff to destroy, so if you're a completionist, you can go absolutely nuts finding everything.

For JC2 I use a gamepad. You have to change a few things to make the mouse work well - you must turn off VSync and you generally have to reduce the settings slightly. I actually got much quicker loading times and better overall control by simply turning AA and one other setting down slightly - it looks almost as good and it takes about 1/3 as long to fast travel.

Batman is unplayable without a gamepad. I used an xbox 360 controller, and didn't like the game anyway.

complete and utter BS. I went through very easily with KB & M. plenty people here have done the same.

I feel that a controller would be much preferable, but it is designed well to work with KB & M.

I picked up Just Cause 2 since there's been so much fan fare for it. Everyone here says it's awesome and it's gotten pretty good reviews also. There's nothing else in this week I'll want since I have everything else from Square Enix that'd I want. Just Cause 2 was the only thing I wanted.

Why all of these awesome sales on the week that I don't have any money to spend? I really would have liked to get Batman: AA, and JC2.. :'(

Think I got jc1 either dirt cheap or free with a vid card or something. Never have installed it though so not really motivated to buy jc2 now.

I have an Xbox controller, but I only use it for Mame and NBA 2K11, I tried it on Batman AA, and it wasn't bad. JC2 is fun as hell, I haven't played it in a good while, but I remember I spent the better part of a day trying to parachute into that blimp that had what sounded like a rave club on it. I was absolutely convinced it would be uber cool once I was on it.

I suck badly and never managed to get on it lol, maybe I'll load it up again this thread has reminded me of that damn blimp.

Just Cause 2 is hugely better than JC1. You can't even compare them.

The easiest way if you suck with the parachute would be to take a helicopter. You can land the helicopter on it somewhere.

Using the fast travel system starts you free-falling well above it, so it's easy enough to land on top of the blimps, but difficult to get to the club below. One tip when falling is to skip the parachute entirely - when you get near the ground, just use the grapple. Yes, grappling the ground and pulling yourself down will not cause you to get hurt.

It's not really that cool though. Just a bunch of people standing around. There are some of those collection items but those are everywhere. The only neat thing is the airplane (it's kind of neat to fly a plane off of a blimp). Also, if you are on top of the blimps, you can get the 1000 meter base jump achievement easily.

EDIT: Nevermind; it looks like I ended up with some corrupted files on the download. steam re-downloaded the bad files and it looks like its working now

picked up both JC games because of the hype (I don't like playing sequels before the original, even if the original isn't that great). However, I can't seem to get JC1 working; it keeps throwing me a vertex / pixel shader error: "shader version expected"

I'm running a radeon 4870 so I'm pretty sure its not an issue with my video card. can't seem to find much more info on it searching around; has anyone else run into this issue?

I'm pretty sure most of the people saying they used a mouse and keyboard didn't play Batman for very long. I played it for like 30 minutes WITH a controller before deciding I didn't like it.

I played through the entire game with keyboard/mouse.

Picked up all of the good Square titles during the Christmas sale, the only one I missed was the last remnant, so here's to hoping it comes on sale during this week :D

Batman AA and Just Cause 2 are worth buying for sure.

Are there any good Square RPGs for PC? It really sucks that I can't get FF 13 for PC, I don't have a console.

No, it doesn't really suck...don't sweat it. You are not missing anything by skipping FF 13 imo. I've been a huge FF fan since the mid 90's (FF6+), but 13 cured me of that. SquareEnix has gone downhill, and they've dropped off the "I trust them to make a fun game" list. They continue to be awesome in graphics department, but ... not in anything else. (even their art direction has been meh to me in recent games)

Maybe they'll make some good games down the road, but they'll have to earn it again.
