Hegemony Philp of Macedon is the DD today

I'm glad they put this on sale again, it's an awesome game even if it's not the Gold version. I got this for $3-4 on one of the big Steam sales a while ago and I think it has been one of the best purchases I've made on Steam (and I've made a LOT). I just recently finished the game and I have almost 130 HOURS in it.

It is an RTS, with a little less emphasis on the RT because you WILL end up pausing it a lot (spacebar). It's really like no other game I've played. In most RTS games you play a bunch of small maps. In this one there is only one HUGE map. The game is fairly simple yet quite complex. While the graphics, music, and sound are nothing amazing, the gameplay is outstanding. There are a few flaws and bugs but I was able to live with them.

I highly recommend this to anyone who likes strategy games. It's less than $8 for a game that will probably take you at least 100 hours to finish. You can also upgrade to the Gold version (through the company's site) for only $10 more. The Gold version is normally $30 and I think even that is a good price for this game.

I hope some of you will pick up this game. I really want to see this company do well and continue to make these games. They just announced Hegemony: Rome (which should be out sometime next year) and I can't wait.

Wasn't going to bother with it just because of price and was unfamiliar with it and looked like a TW clone. But after reading your praise, I'm downloading the demo and will play it in a few.

I've never really played any of the Total War games so I can't compare them. I think I have Rome Total War somewhere but I never really bothered to play it. I forgot Hegemony has a demo so I do recommend you try it. I will say it does take some time to figure out the interface and how various things work and interact.

I think the interface is very powerful compared to most RTS games. In this game you control groups of units rather than individual units. The interface gives you good control over their formation and what direction you want them facing. Also be sure to pay attention to (and upgrade) the unit stats. Even a large powerful unit (such as the Phalangite's) can be easily defeated if they don't have a good "Heroics" stat.

Once you've retaken the main Macedonian cities you are free to expand in whatever direction you choose. There is no set order to doing things. Though I will suggest you save the Persians (which are far from the starting position anyway) for last because they are incredibly strong. Also be prepared for those annoying Athenian boats to pester you for most of the game (except during winter when boats at sea take damage).

The funny thing is I didn't expect this game to be very good. The preview on Steam didn't look that great. I just bought it because it was dirt cheap. One day I was looking for something different to try and semi-randomly picked this. Then I couldn't put it down. If anyone buys it and needs some help feel free to PM me. After 130 hours I think I've figured out most of the intricacies of the game.

Toki Tori is the DD today.

I highly recommend it. I had a lot of fun playing this puzzle game.

It's a pretty good puzzle game. It may look kind of "childish", but it's definitely not some simple, super easy game.

I used to love Dungeon Keeper 2, and I've heard this game plays like it. I'll probably get it anyway for $2.50, but does anyone have any thoughts on it?

I am a huge fan of Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2. This is not quite the same as either of them. Some similar elements, yes, but definitely a different game.

Conflict Denied Ops is the DD today

Looked at Denied Ops on Steam and saw a 58 metacritic score.

At metacritic there were overwhelmingly bad reviews, both on the critic and user sides.

I think I will have to pass denied ops up.

That sucks because it's one of the few CO-OP games out there.

A friend and I played an earlier version of Conflict, maybe global terror or something like that and while it was outdated and had some bugs, it was pretty darn fun.

I bought the AI War complete pack during the summer sale several months ago. I played the tutorial and then never really touched it after that. I have no idea why, because everyone who's played this game says it's absolutely stellar as far as strategy games go.

I'll have to give it another try.

Edit: The AI War "Alien Bundle" is what it's called. I have no idea why that isn't on sale too. It's still at the regular $30. Maybe it will update in a few minutes.

Took them awhile to add the rest of the stuff to the sale, but it is now all marked down.

It is a fun game, great in coop too.

Ah, gotcha. Good deal. Might as well pay the extra $2 for the full pack.

Indeed. For those who are wondering, co-op is the ONLY multiplayer mode available in this game. There's no player vs. player. The idea is that you're fighting against a scary, powerful AI, who operates in it's own ways (hence the name "AI War"). You can choose to fight it by yourself or with a group of friends.
