Hmm... I have this game but I haven't played it. Maybe I'll give it a try and report back.

any updates on this one? people around here seem to be mixed on it, though generally favorable. Looks like the type of thing I might like...

Review from a Reddit thread:

Honestly, it had some decent concepts. I thought that the gun play was alright, the stats made me happy, there were different classes and a... sort of interesting world. I got it mostly for the coop, however, I wanted something along the lines of multiplayer Deus Ex, unfortunately, that's not what I got.

I played the game with a friend for about 6 hours or so, at which point I was almost in tears with frustration and begging my friend stop the torture. I managed to hold onto my sanity long enough to note the various reasons why the game made me wish Steam had a refund button.

First, navigation, while it IS clearly labeled on your screen where you're supposed to go, how to get there is never, ever clear. This leads to a massive headache trying to figure out the maps, which are huge, so huge in fact that when I first started the game I tried to hit the 'm' key in hopes that it was the map button. Apparently maps are for pansies though, so they didn't include that.
Next, they were using the wrong engine for the game. Now, as I said, their player control and guidance through their levels was clearly not well thought out. Several times I would be getting hit and damaged from past the render distance of the Source engine. Alright, that's fine, I can deal with that, they were probably just shooting from JUST outside the render distance, right? Nope, they were hitting me and my friend from across the map, we had to oftentimes walk more than a minute just to see them.

But that leads me to another problem, the AI. Now, normally there's a set number of enemies that spawn nowadays for a certain level, there might be spawn points out of sight and out of mind, but they'll eventually stop. Not so for E.Y.E.! Enemies had spawn points for their groups, usually the group had about 5-7 guys in it, pretty simple. Just don't leave line of sight after you killed them, they'd almost instantly respawn.

Fourth, story, you're playing a cyber monk in the future where the entire planet has been wiped out by an alien species. The cyber monks managed to survive by somehow incorporating the alien species into their bodies, allowing them to be awesome, I think. The story is never particularly made clear. All of the characters are the same and rather bland, none of them made a particularly distinct impression.

The dialogue of the characters I thought was interesting, I believe it was in French (that's what the developing team's nationality is) and it sounded decent. I probably enjoyed it just because I couldn't understand what they were saying.
Another problem was the main storyline quest givers. The game has a main monk hub and from there you're set out to different levels (each map is loaded) and from there you talk to the nearest guy with the quest mark over his head telling you to talk to him. I have no problem with that. Unfortunately, they also let you kill everything in the game, and often times you would find yourself accidentally killing quest givers, essentially cementing you into a single level in the game.

Now, the stats. Now, I love stats, I live for stats, if my love for stats was a stat it would probably outweigh me. This game has stats, LOTS AND LOTS OF STATS. God, it felt good picking and choosing exactly what I wanted to specialize in. I, of course, knew exactly what I wanted to be, I wanted to be a massive two handed hammer wielding nut case, charging random NPCs and knocking them about. Unfortunately, you don't bring a massive 2 hand hammer to a gunfight to win, I died. A lot. Alright, that's simple, I'll just re-specialize. Nope, can't do that. For my troubles my big heavy guy had all his stats reset (even the 'genetype' bonuses you can get from the beginning), all of the stat points I had were removed, and on top of that, none would be given when I levelled. My massive hammer wielding bulletpuck was reduced to a overburdened bag of skin. This happened again when I was forced to make another character as well.

Finally, and the best for last, I clumpped my two largest gripes together. This game had a horrible user interface and it's player education was next to none. To find out how to do anything in this game I had to basically play russian roulette with my keyboard for the first 20 minutes of gameplay, trying to figure out all I could do. I sifted through the newbie tutorial guides and the endless array of clunky, awful menus. After I had everything figured out and began my journey through the starting area I was repeatedly forced back into the awful menu system, "You have to use this to progress.", "Protip: shoot the enemies until they die." It stuttered the gameplay and drove me nuts. The hacking UI was especially fun, as they made the player use same menu system to operate a turn based back and forth hack attack against a door to exit the level.

Now, after that experience, I was hoping for a patch. I'm still hoping, I want this game to be good. I want to be able to bash people's heads in with my 2 handed war hammer, charging about like a prancing pony causing internal decapitation and concussions all willy nilly. And from what I remember reading off the developer's website, a patch is forth coming. However, they haven't solved any of the issues with the game with their patches so far, which is just sad.

TL;DR: Until or IF they finally patch the game and fix the massive list of horrible bugs, do not, please, do not buy this game.

(This was after the August update)
