Hmmm, I grabbed Lara Croft, and Burnout Paradise (only to find I don't like this game 😛). I think that's it for the 5 day sale, but I already had many of the games from last years sales (which were awesome, by the way).

What didn't you like about Burnout? I don't like most racing games much but this was my favorite.

This sale has probably been one of the least impressive, though I probably spent more during this sale than others. I'm a sucker for good deals.

Picked up:

ARMA II
ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead
ARMA II: British Armed Forces (DLC)
Dawn of War II
Dawn of War II Chaos Rising
King's Bounty: The Legend
King's Bounty: Armored Princess
King's Bounty: Crossworlds
Mount and Blade: Warband
Street Fighter IV
Tropico 3
Tropico 3: Absolute Power
World of Goo

Ooh i love mount and blade, battles are extremely epic. Multiplayer is surprisingly fun

Where's the love for DiRT 2? For $5 it's a no-brainer. Codemasters knows how to develop a top-notch racing game, and DiRT 2 is no exception... in fact, it's probably the best racing game I've ever played. It's unfortunate more people haven't mentioned it.

Got...

- AvP - nice atmosphere, played it for a few minutes. I heard SP is short, so it's cool with me - a few evenings to chill if I have time.
- DiRT 2 - the game slows down every few seconds 🙁 Like smooth and then slow-mo for half a second, speeds up again and so on... Just googled for a fix and it's the v-sync 🙁 I refuse to play games with screen tearing... Game seems very fun otherwise.
- Prototype - this game is a BLAST! Seriously fun 😀 Tearing stuff to pieces, using vehicles - you're basically a walking god 😀 Money well spent
- Alpha Protocol - played it for a while... my Xbox gamepad stops to work after a while (no disconnecting or anything... the game just decides to switch to keyb+mouse by itself after a while). Apart from that seems fun.
- GTA : EFLS - didn't try it yet
- The Ball - FPP puzzle game on UE3 engine. Looks promising (didn't try it yet)
- one of the Indie packs, the puzzle one

There's nothing I actually want from Steam. Those games I'll play once in a while and they were cheap, so all's good 🙂

I would have gotten it if I hadn't already picked up the Codemasters bundle a few months ago.

It's a great game, for sure. Grid is even better IMO, maybe just because I prefer track racing to dirt. Dirt 2 also has kind of a poor variety of tracks, just one or two per location for each type of race. That still adds up to a pretty big number of tracks but they're spread out across rally, rallycross, raid, etc. so it doesn't seem like much.

Yea no kidding, I wasn't too impressed with the sales, but I bought more than I thought I would.

Puzzle Quest 2
AvP
World of Goo
Indie Pulse Pack (Worst $5 I spent... I already had Audiosurf and Beat Hazard, the other three games are TERRIBLE)
Indie Story Pack (Best $5 I spent)
Super Meat Boy (I guess it counts, got it for $10 pre-sale)

I really wanted to get the ARMA II Operation Arrowhead, as I really enjoyed ARMA II, but I just can't justify it when it costs $20 and with ARMA II it was only $23. Considering I already paid $50 for ARMA II when it came out, I feel like those who already had the original game should receive a little bigger discount.

Oh well, I'll just wait in the meantime, I have plenty of stuff to play.

I like steam. Having all my games in one place with achievements IS pretty slick. Here's hoping I can buff out my collection even further this December/January! Steam sales is one of the best things to happen to PC gaming in a long time.

What didn't you like about Burnout? I don't like most racing games much but this was my favorite.

Didn't like Burnout paradise at all. The rubberband AI is way too extreme in this game. The game is too easy and there's no difficulty setting, and the odd time you actually lose a race, you have to drive all the way back to the start if you want to retry.

Fair enough. Not sure what you mean about rubberband AI, I didn't mind the difficulty level but I guess it'd be nice to be adjustable, and fair point on restarting a race.

But those things did not prevent it from being the most fun racing game I've had, not that I've had many. The long rides back did get tedious, though.

Hot Pursuit has a variable AI that also cheats, because its no damn good.

If you are losing the enemy will deliberately brake and crash to let you catch up. If you are kicking ass the opponents will magically catch up and pass you even though theres no way the cars could possibly do it.

Also, there is no difficulty setting. The magic AI works to ruin any sense of accomplishment you could possibly achieve.

I can understand people's points comparing DiRT 2 and Grid. I actually haven't played Grid yet, but I have no doubt it's excellent. It will mostly likely be my next racing game. Will probably pick it up during the holiday sale this Christmas.

I kind of have to agree. Burnout Ultimate/Paradise is fun in short bursts... but ultimately it's disappointing. For one thing, it reeks of a console port. The "immersive open-world city environment" really isn't that immersive at all. Rather, it's bland, dreary, and emotionless. Then there's the shitty in-game music that I turned off almost immediately, and I have no way of adding my own playlists. The only redeeming features of this game are the crashes and stunts though. That can be pretty fun.

I'd like to hear feedback on this. It looked pretty cool, but the ball also looked rather cumbersome. It almost looked like you played the game running backward using the ball to run things over.

NFS has done that for entire series, been that way since the early '90s.

Rubberband AI sucks, but you can still lose, especially in the last 3rd of the game. Crashing into traffic and/or a wrong turn late and you could be screwed. The one mode that gave me the hardest time was Marked Man, especially in the WTR/PCPD. If you've done the ranked races, you would appreciate a little rubberbanding. I was in top 100 racers on PS3, and even a fairly flawless race would get you 3rd. Of course, a difficulty setting would probably be better.

I believe the restart race thing was patched in. I did 100% 3 times on PS3 due to corrupted saves, and only got to use the restart race in the last one. Didn't really matter, cause at that point I could finish the game from scratch in 10-15 hours or so.

If you like arcade style driving games I dont think you can do better than Burnout Paradise, especially for the price its going at these days.

I picked up the ARMA II: Combined Operations pack for £15, it's now gone back up to £30. Steam sales has spoilt me rotten to never buy games unless they're are on sale. Last game I bought at full price was Dragon Age over a year ago. I still haven't touched two thirds of my Steam library yet.

Same.. wish there was a way to exchange/trade games within Steam!
