that doesn't seem very "=" to me.
Yeah but you get it now. I am not a subscriber to netflix, because when I get a hankering for a movie I want to watch it now, and I rarely rent old releases. So with BB at least I can have it in my DVD player within 30 min.

Impulse rentals make up the vast majority of the rentals around our house. I've tried the Netflix and Walmart services. For those that simply want to watch a LOT of movies (or are into pirating) these are great plans. But I personally can't stand having to wait for a movie. I much prefer the instant gratification of picking something I'm in the mood for at the time.

I wonder if Hollywood Video will start offering this? I'm still not sure we rent enough to justify it, but the Hollywood Video I drive by every day on the way to the office has a selection that blows any Blockbuster I've ever seen out of the water. Tons of lesser-known films and plenty of the big movies so they never run out.

i'd rather enjoy netflix's incredible selection and unedited movies for less money AND not have to drive to the store all the time. but i guess if you can work swinging by the store into your normal schedule easily and all you watch is Disney movies, then blockbuster would be ok.

Been to one lately? Disney movies? You need to leave the house from time to time if that's all you think Blockbuster carries. And edited movies? Look, I used to manage two different Blockbusters when I was in college. If you mean 'NO PORN' when you say 'edited movies' then yah, you're right on.

Two myths commonly thrown around on these boards:
1. Blockbuster edits their movies for content.
2. Blockbuster only has fullscreen DVD's.

Both are completely false.

O_O Heh, I've been doing this for a while now. Both the "Freedom Movie" pass and the "Freedom Game" pass. When I was in NJ, they did it. Then when I came to SF, they were doing the promo here too. I thought it was universal.

Bottom line is it depends on how close you live to a distribution center.

Netflix - Large selection - large network
WalMart - Large selection(As long as it does not have bewbies) - large network
GamesNFlix - Large selection of films and games - Small network

BB's selection sucks the big one....plus the local ones aren't offering it. I've been asking for over a year.

<--- Victim of a bad BlockBuster experience edging on identity theft. Haven't been in one of their stores since, and likely won't be again.

Hey, I'm currently a customer of Netflix and agree that their selection is great. But, I suffer from the impulse bug and quite often want something to watch that night and end up paying to rent it somewhere locally anyway. Netflix would be so much better for me if I lived closer to a dist. center and didn't have to wait for a roughly 4.5 day turnaround time.

I have no problem with them as a company and will more than likely continue to carry a 3 at once plan. However, anyone who is going to say that BB edits their movies needs to be called upon.

BTW, an 'unedited' version of a movie may be released and not carried by BB but that does not mean that they carry edited versions. They carry theatrical versions and definately carry any 'unedited' versions that have been rated. Hell, my store also carried the unrated versions of things but that's because I specifically ordered them.

i may like netflix so much because the turnaround is fast. I sent back triplettes of belleville yesterday and they're already recieved it and have lotr:rotk "shipping today." Plus I didn't have to go farther than my mailbox.

Can't beat that with stick.

No man, that's really awesome actually. If I had that kind of turnaround I would think the BB idea kind of sucks too. :p

Keep one thing in mind guys. If this movie pass is the one that I'm thinking of, it started today. The store that I work for is participating but I don't think we'll see too many people doing it and I'll tell you why. Once you sign up for the movie pass, you can pay cash for the first month. The employee who sells you the pass is required to get a credit card number when you buy it. If you try the pass for 30 days and don't like it, you can come in and cancel. If you don't come in and cancel, they will AUTOMATICALLY bill your CC every month until you come in and cancel it. Also, I don't believe that there are any refunds on this stuff. If you want to cancel it and you come in on the day after your 30 days expired, your CC will already be charged and there are no refunds. I'm not saying that it isn't a pretty good deal if you're interested and if you are comfortable with giving out your CC number. My own personal opinion is that I wouldn't want to give out my CC number or want to deal with the hassle of the whole thing. I'm not trying to do anything more than just give you guys a heads up. :)

Yah, it works exactly the same for the game pass. If you don't cancel then you're just out another $20. But, that's how every recurring transaction that you sign up for online works as well, so it's really no different.

I liked it better when we sold the passes that were only good for 30 days. That way the customer didn't have to worry about additional fees. They could just purchase another pass and do it again. I imagine that even if we sell some of these passes and THOROUGHLY EXPLAIN how it works......we'll still have people coming in complaining about it. If only people really and truly knew how to listen.......hehe

Our local one has had this going for sometime. It's not nearly as good as Netflix since it's $10 more per month and you have to drive there and back, plus the selection is quite a bit less.

It will give me GREAT pleasure to cancel my Netf*ck account! :D 3 week+ wait for new releases is wholly unacceptable.

Oh, believe me you will have those people. It's just like with the rental cards you get for buying new releases such as Return of the King. People just can't understand that it is one free rental per week for seven weeks. If you don't rent something one of those weeks you lose the rental. If you don't like that then DON'T buy it. It ain't that hard. ;)

Greaaaat. Now I have to go and deal with blockbuster again. 4 or 5 years ago, we rented a few movies. Wife returned them, but it was 4 or 5 minutes after they were due to be back. The girl said, "that's fine, you don't have to worry about it." Got a bill from blockbuster a month or so later for $15. Called them and told them the situation. They said, "okay, sorry about that." A few months later, got the bill from the collection agency, said "screw them." Haven't been back to blockbuster since.

But, now it might be time to go through the trouble, unless the other places in town catch on and start doing the same. Now, for some 4x dvd-r deals... :D (completely unrelated)

Hollywood is going to have to consider following BB's lead here. I don't see how they can stay afloat in directly competing markets otherwise.
