I have been asking my local Blockbuster about this forever because I knew the concept was in being tested in a few markets. I was told over the weekend that the plan is beginning on Tuesday at that store. Now, I don't know if this is going to be a completely national rollout or not but I thought I would give you all a heads up just in case.

BTW, just like any other BB promo, your store may be excluded. Franchise stores will have the option not to participate so you may be SOL.

I really love Netflix but feel I can get much greater bang for the buck with this since I can constantly swap as opposed to waiting 4-5 days for complete shipping turnaround from Netflix. It also enables me to get the newest movies without trouble. (I was unable to get both Paycheck and Miracle last week)

I'll try to find out if it is completely national later today but I just wanted to give you a heads up regardless.

all my local blockbusters have been carrying this plan for many months now. 2 out for $25, 3 out for $30. I ditched netflix in favor of the 3 out for 30 about 2 months ago

Wow, that would be nice! This is totally unrelated, but are there any DVD+R deals going on? (joke!)

Where are you located? You might be in one of the test regions and probably get a lot of stuff before the rest of us.

BBs here (milwaukee area) have had this for a while now too. I've never used it though. My local library actually has a really good selection (just not the brand new stuff) and it's free.

:Q

I just got started on Netflix's free two week trial a few days ago, and my first movie's should arrive in a few days. I'll see if my local BB is doing this, but I may still stick with Netflix, depending on how long it takes for the DVDs to arrive.

I think you're just in one of the regions that gets stuff later then everyone else :D. If you check out the big long thread about netflix at Fatwallet, you'll see that most areas have had the blockbuster plan for awhile now

Good idea in theory until you realize that Blockbuster's library is about 30 movies. I wouldn't even be able to make use of this if I tried. I rent about 4-5 movies/month and often I go into BB and just turn around and walk out without anything. I swear that most of the movies these days are utter crap.

yes, and when i heard about it it made me so happy that I had left. I had the 3 out for $15 a month (special cancelation promotion) for 6 months, and a week after I canceled they emailed everyone and said sorry you have to pay $22 now

Let me get this straight. You're renting 3 movies for $30? What the hell are you guys smoking?

You can bring them back and get more. SO if you get 3 in one day and watch them all that evening, you can bring them back and rent 3 more. $30 month allows 3 out at once, an unlimited number of rentals.

No, for $30 per month, you can have 3 movies out at at time. If it's like Netflix, you can keep the movies as long as you want, but can only have 3 movies out at a time. Once you want more, take the movies back and get 3 more.

[Edit] Skoorb beat me to it.

Is there a maximum to the number of movies you can get per month? Assuming you could get 3 movies per day, then 30 x 3 = 90 movies per month, would BB allow this?

As Skoorb mentioned, the selection at my local BB pretty much sucks, when compared to Netflix. The majority of the time, it's walk-in, walk-out with no movie to speak of.

No, they get to have 3 movies out a month for $30. They finish one, take it back and get another. I'm not sure if this is limited to 1 rental a day or what limits are on it but for someone without anything better to do, they could rent 3 movies a day, watch them all, take them back and rent 3 new ones the next day. So this is like renting up to 90 movies a month for $30.

Sorry, I assumed that everyone knew the Netflix model.

It's $30 to have 3 movies out at once. You could technically rent 300 in a day if you wanted. You just pay $30 per month to keep the account active.

BBs in Utah had this 1.5years ago but they discontinued it sometime around last summer. Would be nice if they started it again. I manged to rent 64 movies in 20days while I was waiting for my Europe visa to come back last winter.

Well, maybe that's the reason it was discontinued? :D

:) Probably, though if they didn't have the freedom pass they wouldn't have even gotten $25 (I was using the 2movie at a time plan) out of me.

Blockbuster could never have the selection Netflix does... mostly because netflix has pr0n and blockbuster will not cary that naughty stuff.
