LULZ @ the haters...

I don't know how many of youall have tried to use a full blown OS on a tablet, but I have, it's a massive PITA, and frankly won't be a realistic expectation of a tablet for another few years. I nabbed a Dell XT refurb, dual core, maxed out the ram, put on W7 and tried to use it.

What a massive POS, it was fucking miserable. Maybe with a Quad core processor, a significant improvement in battery life, significantly better GPU, on and on and on... it was one of the few tech toys I've used in the last few years I wanted to slam into a wall because it pissed me off so much...

I also have a Dell Mini 9 that I've used a lot, for ~$600 after all the mods, it works pretty well, I tether it with my cell wirelessly, but it's awkward to carry around, and I need a flat surface to put it on to use it effectively.

For $499, I can tether the Apple iPad too, and frankly for my uses it's gonna kick ass, I already have a bag I carry to work, and the iPad will fit in with more than enough room to spare.

The apps for this thing are barely out of the oven, look at what 2 years has done for the iPhone & the iPod Touch apps, there's some stuff out there that's slick as whale shit.

Apple will sell the shit out of this thing, kids are gonna get instead of a DS or a PSP, and their parents will buy them because it doubles as an e-reader.

While the average ATOTer wants more, this is what people will use. Hell, I want a full blown OS on a tablet, but it just isn't going to happen folks, tablets are a whole new ball game.

Heh try typing on ipad screen and see if that will make you slam it on a wall. Samething for using this as DS or PSP, try press the screen 10000000 times a day and see how many days that thing will last. Using it as ebook? what a joke, Kindle last a weeks on a charge, what about this thing 10 hrs? and see if you can stand reading something on ipad for hours.

Seriously, what exactly is this thing design for? Ever heard of the term jack of all trades, master of none?

I don't want to surf the web on a fucking postage stamp sized screen?

What huge cost?

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/hom...co=MTM3NDkxNjY

An unsubsidized iPhone is about $600

It's smaller, has phone capabilities, and comes with 3G. You have to pay extra just to have the option for 3G on the iPad which is retarded plus pay a monthly fee on top of that. It adds up even more seeing as you're going to have a separate cellphone anyways and most people that buy the iPad are going to have an iPhone/iPod Touch already anyways.

I simply don't understand why you would buy this instead of a netbook, except for some very specific applications where a touchscreen is needed. Netbooks have built-in keyboards, more space, come with internet, and are much cheaper.

Never used an iphone or any touch phone have you? I've yet to hear a screen stop working from overuse.

You don't read anything on a laptop/netbook/lcd monitor screen? Never worked in front of one all day?

Are you going on a remote island with no electricity? Going to read a book for 10 hours straight? If you do, I'm sure there will be inexpensive batteries packs that you can plug in like they have for the iPhone/iPod.

I'm underwhelmed by the iPad also but not for your lame reasons.

So they made a Kindle that does 100x more with a much better screen, and the apple haters (whom are starting to seem more brainwashed than the apple zealots) hate it based on the fact that apple didnt 'invent' it or its been done before or whopdeedo a bigger screen (like somehow thats bad?) or some other asinine reason to dislike the piece of technology.

How does that make any fucking sense at all? It seems like the reality distortion field cloud is raining on all the people that hate the company, dont really know why, and anything that it produces sucks based on that unknown dislike. Here is a tip; if you dont like it, dont buy it, becuse no one that likes it gives a fuck about your emo headtrips.

PS They need to change the name to iBook

If you dont want to hear peoples opinion then get of the forums.

It has no NEW use, and lacks in USE that is already available.

iPod is better because its more portable

Macbook is better because its as portable and more powerful. Actually the Macbook is probably more portable. I mean how are you going to carry this ipad around. You will have to get some sort of case for it that will increase the size and weight to be close to the macbook. To carry that thing in a bookbag you will need some serious casage. And what happens when you drop it? It will be so easy to drop, considering how your supposed to hold it.

I really could never imagine using this thing. I mean its a cool gadget but i would rather use my iphone or laptop, depending on task. And im not one of the people that need it to sit on couch, im fine with my 5.5lb laptop.

Jeez. They should have gone for a full-blown slate computer. Put a real OS on it, use an X86 processor, give it a stylus, and a few ports. At least it would have real functionality instead of IPhone, 1989 style.

you aren't going to be typing essays on the ipad anymore than you would doing it on an iphone.
most web browsing requires very little typing at all. unless you feel like posting stuff that results in tldr all the time.

The thing about this device is, it is impressive as hell and a bit of a revolution. I mean Apple has totally done it again..............if this was 2004. If this thing came out before the iPhone/iPod it would have been killer, and ahead of its time. Now it's just a big iPod touch, and no where near as cool as most of the devices at CES this year. This thing's only purpose is to drive sales to the App Store.

If they would have made it with a touch enhanced version of Snow Leopard with built-in GPS, front and back facing webcams for video conferencing, USB ports, and a super-thin fold over keyboard, it would have been a great device. Still not revolutionary, but I could have seen the purpose to a device like that, and would have seriously considered buying it. This? I don't get it.

Can you at least get software from the internet or can it only be purchased at the iStore?

then what's the point of pimping iworks for the ipad then? Its a small office suite right? So they atleast expect you to type and edit things.

you may think that this thing is gonna be awesome for you, but no way is this thing gonna sell. maybe the initial rush to grab the "cool" new thing, but nothing more. the average ipod user is not gonna have any use for this piece of garbage

yea their newspapers:p
we arent talking about people who still use paper, way to dodge. if this is about ipad vs kindle then only kindle users need apply when looking at how people actually use the damn things.

anyone can walk around and see people use their iphone in most any area, even places that aren't that well off. try playing the find the kindle user game sometime.

You have some major reading comprehension issues. This "reading outside" debate was first started by you. Originally, someone said they couldn't imagine using iPad to read outside because of the glossy screen. You then said, (paraphrased) "yeah...because people read outside." People then confirmed that they enjoyed reading outside and cited, accurately, that many people enjoy reading outside. Never once, did anyone say people that read outside only read with Kindles. Way to stay on topic.

In addition, you still have not answered the interesting question as to why anyone with an iPhone would buy iPad if the Kindle app is available at the iStore. Way to avoid a legitimate question. You obviously do not need an eReader.....I'd be surprised if you do much reading other than reading about Apple products.

its pretty funny when you think about it. technology is usually about making things smaller without losing funcionality. apple just went the opposite, and just went bigger, with the same features. people are actually happy with this? WTF lol

You want something smaller than an iPod/iPhone to read an ebook, surf the web, etc?

For e-books, e-ink its light years ahead of led back-lit LCD screens. Not only that the Ipad has very poor DPI comparatively speaking to other LCD base tablets unvield at CES.

e-ink is simply better for reading. LCD of course is better for media.

Nook+16GB expansion card is great for e-books. Probably better than anything the Ipad will ever do. E-inks better, Barnes and Nobles will have far more extensive collection, and the books will be cheaper.

Apple does it again, adds a bunch of features to a device, doesnt really do any of them all that good, except for multi touch, and skips key features. The Ipad will not be anywhere as successful as the Ipod or Iphone.

The Ipad doesnt revolutionaize tablets or anything. It strips a lot of key functionality from tablets. This isnt a tablet, its a shiny 10" PMP, ie a 10" Itouch. Until it has handwriting recognition, pressure sensative input, and a whole host of other things, its not a tablet, its PMP, a very isolated cut off from the non Apple world PMP.

you have major logic issues. only an idiot would try to expand that argument to include people who read regular paper material when it was about how important reading outside on an ebook reader was. they are not only irrelevant to the argument because they aren't using any device, they are also actively ignoring the kindle option already. this was about the importance of such usage to only ebook reader users. aka typical usage of ebooks, not of regular books. you make a huge unsupported assumption if you assume all ebook usage is equivalent to regular book usage. just walking around trying to find anyone reading a kindle in public shows how rare it is.

legitimate question? you must be kidding me. you might as well ask why would anyone with an iphone and "application" buy a kindle:p that you can't see how ridiculous that question is on its face shows how pointless it is to respond to it at all.

My kids can throw their DSi and PSP in their pocket and be on the go. They can grab them and taken them anywhere.
You can do that with the iPad.

You know being a kindle owner and reading paper material are not mutually exclusive. I see people reading in direct sunlight all the time. In fact, I think I see more people reading with kindles than with regular books ! I guess NYC is just that much more advanced than where you live.
