lol the tampax jokes are already getting hilarious.

I wonder if these guys even realized what this name would start LOL. The ipad? Really? LOL. Someone must be either laughing like crazy that he actually got Steve to approve that name or is /facepalming realizing nobody ever realized it was a bad name.

The ipad. lol

While it's cool and all, it's not the first tablet PC to ever get invented, so I really don't see the huge deal with this. Apple has an odd way of getting so much publicity for stuff that's not all that innovative. I have to admit the price is good though. Other tablets that I've seen are upwards of 5k and are bulky enough to be used as a weapon against Lord Voldemort himself.

So they made a Kindle that does 100x more with a much better screen, and the apple haters (whom are starting to seem more brainwashed than the apple zealots) hate it based on the fact that apple didnt 'invent' it or its been done before or whopdeedo a bigger screen (like somehow thats bad?) or some other asinine reason to dislike the piece of technology.

How does that make any fucking sense at all? It seems like the reality distortion field cloud is raining on all the people that hate the company, dont really know why, and anything that it produces sucks based on that unknown dislike. Here is a tip; if you dont like it, dont buy it, becuse no one that likes it gives a fuck about your emo headtrips.

PS They need to change the name to iBook

I don't get why people so vehemently pontificate on all the reasons it sucks and they will not buy one. You know for every detractor there are 250 buyers with money in hand. I mean, we all know it will be a success. If you think it is such a big failing waste of money just don't buy one but that's not a reason to get all self-righteous about how you are non-conformist

It fails against any current-gen netbook. For example, the Asus 1005PE (new 10" Pinetrail netbook) has:

9+ hours of video playback on a single charge; up to 14 hours of light usage on a single charge

Removable battery

Multi-tasking

Adobe Flash

Open system (run the apps you want)

Ports

Built-in keyboard

Webcam

All for about $150 less than the low-end iPad.

It's pretty obvious you've never seen a Kindle screen, so that kind of defeats your entire argument.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we have here is essentially an over-sized iPod Touch with 3G, no?

Jobs describes it as being an incredible browsing experience... but there's no support for Flash. Um... what? With the immense amount of Flash content on today's web, no support from a device that's largely built around web-browsing is nothing short of ludicrous.

I fail to see the niche that this device fills. Existing Mac owners could simply purchase a Waacom (or simliar) tablet and a 3G adapter from their wireless provider and have all of the same functionality of the iPad, plus the additional functionality of a laptop.

LULZ @ the haters...

I don't know how many of youall have tried to use a full blown OS on a tablet, but I have, it's a massive PITA, and frankly won't be a realistic expectation of a tablet for another few years. I nabbed a Dell XT refurb, dual core, maxed out the ram, put on W7 and tried to use it.

What a massive POS, it was fucking miserable. Maybe with a Quad core processor, a significant improvement in battery life, significantly better GPU, on and on and on... it was one of the few tech toys I've used in the last few years I wanted to slam into a wall because it pissed me off so much...

I also have a Dell Mini 9 that I've used a lot, for ~$600 after all the mods, it works pretty well, I tether it with my cell wirelessly, but it's awkward to carry around, and I need a flat surface to put it on to use it effectively.

For $499, I can tether the Apple iPad too, and frankly for my uses it's gonna kick ass, I already have a bag I carry to work, and the iPad will fit in with more than enough room to spare.

The apps for this thing are barely out of the oven, look at what 2 years has done for the iPhone & the iPod Touch apps, there's some stuff out there that's slick as whale shit.

Apple will sell the shit out of this thing, kids are gonna get instead of a DS or a PSP, and their parents will buy them because it doubles as an e-reader.

While the average ATOTer wants more, this is what people will use. Hell, I want a full blown OS on a tablet, but it just isn't going to happen folks, tablets are a whole new ball game.

Just fyi you're supposed to be a non-conformist if you're buying Apple products.

What does it do that an iPhone or iPod Touch can't do to warrant the huge cost?

I love how everyone hates Flash unless it comes to hating on Apple, then not having Flash is a crime against humanity. Not digging the iPad at all, just pointing out the double standard.

People hate flash because it's everywhere, often slow and often gimmicky. People are hating on this not supporting flash because....flash is everywhere. Jobs was trying to say what a great browsing experience this thing gives you compared to a Netbook when it doesn't even support something that's now a very basic part of the web. I'm not a fan of flash heavy sites or flash gimmicks, but this thing immediately disqualifies you from using a bunch of websites. I have the same issue with my iPod touch and my Blackberry.

Haha yeah I was thinking the same. Though Flash is one of those things we all hate but it's pretty much forced on us so devices should support it. I don't see how flash is any worse then activeX silverlight and other propitiatory crap like that.

I'm kind of in the sidelines when it comes to the apple scene, I'm not a fanboy, but I'm not a hater either. I would maybe buy one if I had the need for one, but I would open my options up and look at other equivalent products too and see what's best for me. I see it as "just another tablet".

Oh, and this just has to come out: "The ipad, bleeding edge technology, Always. "

Lots of people dislike things they use on a regular basis but they still realize how often they need/use it.

Seriously, do you really believe kids are going to be buying this to replace their DS and PSP?

Holy shit. That is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Steve Jobs must have some wicked good tasting kool-aid.

Well, hopefully the combination of HTML5 and devices like this will be the death knell for Flash.

Look up the demographics of who buys Apple products...

Slightly less than 50% have incomes of >$100K/year, do you honestly think they're not going to buy these for their kids?

How many kids do you have?

I have two boys who love games. They don't like to play games on the Ipod Touch (wife and I both have 16GB) we have because they lack physical controls. Not to mention who wants to carry around a huge ass paperweight. My kids can throw their DSi and PSP in their pocket and be on the go. They can grab them and taken them anywhere.

You know how much it sucks to drive a car or play a fighting game without controls? LOL. And you think this will be a gaming platform to replace the DS and PSP?

We won't even get into the fact that you think a parent is going to buy a $400+ technogadget vs. a $130 handheld game system. Hell, the PS3 had problems selling when it was priced like this thing and it's a dedicated gaming system!

Yea not to mention it's not even a gaming platform that will replace the iPod touch. I like playing games on my iPod touch, but I can't imagine playing something like GTA: China Town Wars, Call of Duty, Homerun Battle 3d or even Doodle Jump on this thing. It's too big and heavy for using in that manner.

Plus most kids that want this probably already have an iPod touch and a PSP or DS. Why would their parents rush out to drop another $500 minimum for this? What does it do better than what they have?

As most before me have said, this thing is stupid. Let's see, my netbook cost less than half what they want for the base iPad model, and it has 10 times the storage, a keyboard and a flexible OS, making it actually useful as a media player and general purpose device.

It boggles my mind that anyone would buy this thing over a netbook.

I'm a hater? I already pointed out I have (2) Ipod Touch. Not to mention 3 previous iPods. Never once did I say it's not a good device or anything outside the fact that it's a horrible "gaming" system. You're the one that said kids are going to be replacing their DS and PSP with this thing. That's a stupid statement and I pointed it out. Don't be such a wuss and run away with your tail tucked between your legs. Calling me a hater doesn't do anything but prove anything other than the fact that you know I'm right and you drank the kool-aid and think this is some godsent item. It's not, sorry bud.
