The tv series actually did five alternate reality type reboots.

The movie Stargate:Continuum.

The episode (Moebius) where they go back in time to ancient Egypt and screw up the timeline and there was no Stargate Command and an alternative Jackson and Carter were recruited to go on a mission that would eventually return things almost completely to what originally happened.

The two quantum mirror episodes where Earths with similar history, but with some changes, were shown.

The episode where Carter was working on a planet wide stealth device but ended up in an alternate reality where General Landry was President.

It's actually six. Don't forget the real world where they had an actor playing an actor playing a doctor based on Daniel Jackson played by Michael Shanks which was based on the Daniel Jackson from the movie played by James Spader.

Good.

The series ran its course. Time for something fresh.
I agree that the series ran its course. But just about everything people love about Stargate comes from the TV show, not the movie. The movie was a somewhat generic sci-fi popcorn film; it really wasn't very good.

Well you Stargate fans, you guys are lucky to only lose out on those TV shows. How do you think Star Wars fans feel?

There are still Star Wars fans left after the prequels? I commend your dedication.

On the other hand hey did combine Legos and Star Wars. Stargate replicators don't count.

I remember not bothering with SG1 in it's first couple of seasons. I saw Teal'c with that horribly embarrassingly lame gold medallion thing they slapped on his head to make him feel like an "aline". It looked so lame and so low budget I thought it was stupid. But... it kind of grew on me after a while. :)

It wasn't bad in its day. It is super dated now though.

The "stargate" is one of the best movie/tv concepts ever for scifi. It's at least scientifically based on an actual concept, the wormhole, and allows for characters to travel between planets nearly instantaneously with just an inexpensive special effect. On shows like Star Trek you couldn't have more than a planet or two in an episode or movie.

Well, okay, I just saw that the director also made vile garbage like The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. I am for a reboot, but not done by him.

One of the recent continuum episodes had amanda carter listed as director.

Did you mean Amanda Tapping, or is this just an odd name that happened by chance? I once heard of a guy named Wilkes Booth Lincoln, so any name is possible.

The DAT was the fallout from the 2000 presidential election, and 2012 was a FAR better movie than that concept deserved.

I really liked the first movie, and the series, but all the mini-movies they put out for the TV shows I felt were horrible.

I don't really like SG1. It is a little too dated, but not in a TNG way where the concepts are still driving human imagination. More like "geez I forgot what CRTs looked like" kind of way.

With that said, when SG1 turned into to Starscape at the end and went all HD then it was great. I love the Ori plot, as a friend pointed out it fits perfectly into Star Wars cannon- Jedi are nearly ascended beings, who can then ascend and be at the end of Return of the Jedi.

I am a huge fan of Atlantis because of Rodney McKay, who nails the vain nerd stereotype. Overall it was well done, and had an ending I liked more than most.

SGU was trying too hard to take on BSG's grittiness and failed. I hope this new trilogy doesn't go gritty...

The movie had potential, but was a shitheap trainwreck. The show had no reason for even existing.

This is one reboot I can actually welcome.

So, the show that basically borrowed the potential and ran (very) successfully with it was a waste, and you welcome the return to the original movie plotline produced by the same shitheap train conductors?

I find that odd.

Heh. I didn't even pick that up, thinking myself on first glance that the name was correct. Yes, her name is Amanda Tapping, her character in the show is Carter.
