StarCraft II: WoL slipping to 2010?

Ah, another rude 12-year old with internet access. What a well-conceived rebuttal. One day, once you're all grown up, you'll have a job (not a very good one, but a job) and you'll then understand what I was talking about.

You're thinking about it like your summer soccer camp where there are different teams and they're rivals who would never cooperate. In reality, a corporation has multiple goals (such as different game intellectual properties: StarCraft, Warcraft, and Diablo). They allocate resources (people and money) to each goal. However, when one goal is deemed of higher importance than the others by the corporation's leadership, the resources can be reallocated to correspond with their business strategy.

That was my example of staffing up the World of Warcraft team with more people than StarCraft or Diablo. This happens all the time where I work. I have my set of projects that I work on in addition to keeping up with daily tasks. But, if some project elsewhere were to fall behind my manager may ask me to devote 10% of my time to that project to help them out. That's how companies run.

So of course they have different teams at Blizzard who each work on separate games (like I said in my second post... which you still haven't read, apparently). But just because someone is on "Team Diablo" doesn't mean they're completely incapable of working with the ladies and gentlemen on "Team StarCraft". It is still software programming and game design. It isn't like asking the janitor to help out the aerospace engineers.

I really want to start playing a good RTS game but it's such an investment of time that I want to know it will be good for 10+ years. I think I am going to start playing Starcraft I again to get warmed up. Are there still plenty of folks on Battle.net? I would think a lot of folks would be playing it again to get ready..

play on iccup

seriously anyone who plays an MMO needs help. i still don't understand what's so rewarding about them. i'd rather pwn/ get pwned in an FPS or RTS where theres some critical twitch reflexes / strategy. at least diablo series is finite and doesn't suck a retarded amount of time, but that's for a different thread

PvP in World of Warcraft takes some skill, and it's more than just twitch ability.

Yes, Good > Soon. Also, Not Waiting Seven Years > Waiting Seven Years.

And no, the movies aren?t always done. Movie studios will certainly wait months to maximize sales, but never a year. There are certainly times that a teaser trailer is released during filming and at the end it would say something like ?June 2010? and sure enough they get the month right. Maybe when the gaming industry is as matured as the movie industry there won?t be so many extreme delays?

Once you have a script and story boards for all the scenes, you pretty much know how long it's going to take to film the movie. Very different from the game industry.

Anyway? does anyone have any actual thoughts about StarCraft II: WoL being released in 2009 vs. 2010?

What actual thoughts are you looking for?

My 'good>soon' sums up my thoughts and wasn't meant to be snarky. I'd rather see Blizzard continue it's tradition of 'as long as it takes' to finish a game. If you'd rather have a game faster, go play Spore.

Yes, it's a bummer the release date's pushed back. I'd rather wait until the brownies are fully cooked.

If you'd rather have a developer follow the 'as long as it takes' to finish a game mentality, go play Duke Nukem Forever. 😉

Exactly! But, you don't even have to look to another studio. StarCraft: Ghost, anyone? I bought my original Xbox because StarCraft: Ghost was going to come out that summer (2003). Recently I bought a new computer - not for StarCraft II: WoL, but at least with it in the back of my mind.

Poetic irony, I suppose.

Patience is a virtue. We know Blizzard is quite far in SC2 and fairly far into D3 already. Waiting a few extra months won't kill you.

what happened to ghost? didn't a lot of dev go into that? seems like a waste

I dont think they ever came out and said what exactly did happen. I just remember them announcing it was being canceled and that was that. Of course, it also happened during the WoW explosion of subs, and with SC and Diablo that were also in development, I think they just made a choice of projects and SC ghost got the ax.

Haha, no. I love Blizzard.

Even if I have to wait until 2014 for StarCraft II: WoL and Diablo III I'll still buy them... I'll just be incredibly upset. Outside of WoW I think Blizzard makes fantastic games. To be fair, it isn't just WoW I dislike - I just don't like the principle of paying for a game and then paying every month just to be able to play the game.

That's not to say I don't really enjoy plenty of other game studios, but no other studio has entertained me for just a large percentage of my life as Blizzard.

Anyway, that may also be a small part of why I feel especially burned by them when they constantly delay games for YEARS. Even worse, when they eventually cancel a game after YEARS of delays when I had been looking forward to it so much (re: StarCraft: Ghost).

Totally! Except I actually liked WoW, it was a decent game, just not good enough for me to keep paying monthly for it, MMO's arent really my thing.

good < soon + good

Anyways people assume that the longer it takes the better it will be? I doubt that

What do you think blizzard is doing with their time? Jerking off?

SC2 beta isn't out yet for a reason.

I'm still upset that they aren't including lan capabilities... That is terrible. Whats worse is the reason. It isn't because it is harder, it is to stop "piracy"...
