AS long as the protoss can actually repair stuff this time, I won't care. Seriously. The zerg heal, Terrans can repair, yet the Protoss with all of their insanely advanced technology can't fix sh!t. WTF.

Terrans: can repair mechanical units and buildings slowly, requires tying up using builder units
Zerg: can heal any unit or structure automatically, but very slowly
Protoss: can reenergize almost all units or buildings shields simultaneously and instantly, but only 50% of their total health are shields.

seems balanced to me.

Sounds wrong to me. Kerrigan is zerg, how can they make a new race based on her? The hybrid or xel naga were supposed to be the new race or races. Also shutting down the original sc servers? Thats bullcrap! Not even EA steeps that low.

kerrigan's zerg/terran hybrid... and there were missions which hinted of zerg/toss hybrids.

Every single zerg unit started life as somthing else, kerrigan is no exception. She was a terran, shes now a zerg. She was the overminds pet project making her special but she is still zerg.

uhh, zerg was created as a distinct entity by the xel'naga. every single zerg unit starts life as a larvae. they have the power to assimilate other entities but they are hybrids.

kerrigan's a hybrid. she can psi-storm and cloak. no zerg unit can.

The overmind was the distinct entity not the zerg, all the zerg units you see *in the game* came from a larvae but their gene pool came from somthing else. Hydralisks were an assimilated peaceful species, same with mutalisks and the rest. Kerrigan is merely an infested human thats had special treatment. Shes a zerg not a hybrid. If they wanted to they could make more kerrigans, what would that do to the games balance though? Exactly, throw it out the window. Just because she can cloak and psi storm dosent mean crap.

What the heck - maybe it's finally time I pick up the original and see what the hype is about, outdated graphics and all.

It's mechanics are crap compared to modern RTSs (ie: Rise of Nations), but it's fun as hell to play and was revolutionary for it's time.

sorry, but starcraft is STILL the best RTS - it has far more customization than anything else (WC3 aside), but WC3 is so weak in comparison as far as gameplay goes. there's a reason why starcraft is still popular for a 10 year old game!

I never knew they used some of the drop ship pilot's sayings from Alien until I watch it for the first time a few months ago.

Will Starcraft 2 ruin the starcraft legacy? Starcraft is still the most balanced RTS out there with almost unlimited strategy, (on non-money maps).

I like starcraft because its so simple in its interface but so complex in the gameplay

I almost don't want a sequel to be released so that Blizzard can have a perfect track record with this franchise. Oh well, I'm trying to keep expectations to a minimum.

But it makes no SENSE! The Protoss are the most advanced raced and they can't even buff out a dent? Balance is great, but not at the expense of realism. Especially blatantly obvious realism.

For such a popular game as SC that is used as the competitive standard for RTS, I'd say balance comes before realism.

One new race and two more units per original race? This sounds more like an expansion with a graphical overhaul... then again, how many Blizzard sequels aren't?

Perhaps their technology is so advanced that it's hard for them to do field repairs, hence why they came up with rechargable energy shields. Not that it matters, since it's a balance thing, and something that gives them uniqueness. Keep in mind that until the expansion there was no way to heal injured Terran infantry units either.

...I wouldn't hold my breath personally. But I'm sure they will make a SC2 someday. Hell, they could release SC1 with updated graphics and support for higher resolutions/widescreen and they'd probably sell ten million copies in a month.

That's actually what I'd rather have. Why make a new game, when balance is perfect? Just a new engine would be great. Even releasing two new units per race would take a year or two of competitive play to be finally balanced. And a whole new race... Just look at WC3, still not completely balanced despite many, many patches and several years of competitive play.

Nah, no way. Beta by the end of 07? For that to be true it would've had to be in development for some time now, and it's impossible to keep something like SC2 a secret.

Actually, from my point of view, the graphics haven't really dated that much at all. It's like the old mario's, because most of it is comic like.
