I've been reading some korean forums and the resounding theme is the marauder being waaaay to overpowered - too powerful and versatile, no hard counters against, etc etc - part of the reason why terran is broken (according to them)
The consensus there is teran > *.* in most all cases except a real good zerg player playing to his max potential can become competitive. My friends playing in the platinum league in the US seem to think otherwise, suggesting that protoss is overall the most powerful. Wonder what makes the difference..
I've always wondered why Zerg is the only race without a T1 unit that has a damage bonus against armored.
Protoss has Stalkers and Terran has Marauders. You'd suspect with those units that the Roach would have an armor damage bonus, but it doesn't... since the Stalkers and Marauders are both armored units with an armor damage bonus.
yea it's strange, Terran also seem to have a boatload of "bonus damage" units where zerg doesn't have many.
I'm assuming it might be part of their ability to burrow and regen life quickly, but doesn't researching Burrow require a Lair (T2) anyway?![]()
Race flavor. It was the same in original SC. As a rule, zerg units deal their full damage to everything whereas a terran's troops are nearly all specialists and must target specific elements of the opponent's army to be effective. If the zerg's troops stay alive for a while, an opposing terran or toss army is guaranteed to take heavy damage and is likely to lose. In contrast, even if a mass of hellions or reapers stays alive for a while, there's no guarantee they are inflicting serious harm on a zerg army - they could be shooting at roaches.I've always wondered why Zerg is the only race without a T1 unit that has a damage bonus against armored.
That Day9 guy is so odd... I've been watching some of his videos.
His dailies are pretty informative and he is very knowledgeable about the game but sometimes he can be strange. The vids are always fun though. He used to be an A/A- player in broodwar and played in a bunch of tourneys etc. His brother (Tasteless) is the caster for the GomTV Korean Starcraft league that just started, and I think Day9 casts most of the MLG stuff or is going to in the future.
Also on a different note. WoohOOO! just got promoted to platinum rank 26 after my 51st game. My opponent tried to Thor drop me.. does that actually work?

Husky is the most odd SC2 caster but he is hysterical sometimes, I generally watch his casts for the humor, day9 to learn how to get better.

As soon as he landed I had 15marines and 2 tanks blowing down his front door and just mopped him up. He apparently lost track of his drop as I was killing his base because I had enough time to make 4 marauders and another tank in my base and kill his drop army with only losing 2 turrets, a refinery and some scv's.
But unseiged tanks and marines with stim just ate his Thor in about 6 seconds.
lol, I've never built a single Thor in multiplayer, ever.
I never have either... they can easily turn into a huge waste of resources if your opponent has some good anti-armor units.
I remember one Terran guy built a few Thors against me and I destroyed them so quickly. I think the guy was even surprised at how badly they lost.
Yeah that's what I think, plus they're too slow.I never have either... they can easily turn into a huge waste of resources if your opponent has some good anti-armor units.

A lot of it has to do with the different playstyles in each region. Most Korean games are over insanely fast as they just go for the win as fast as possible whereas a lot of US games tend to last more towards mid-late game tech. The Marauder is a strong unit and the slow upgrade may need to be more expensive but in the MLG tourny held last week Terran didn't make the finals and it ended up being 1st - Toss, 2nd - Toss, 3rd - Toss.
Battlecruisers are a little slower and much weaker than I remember. And given the resource cost they arent too useful unless you micromanaged a good game and have ridiculous resources to spare.
I've updated the handle list for anyone who posted in the other thread. This thread is too big so I'm too lazy to trawl through it. If I missed you, please PM me.
On another note, who here listens to Day9 Dailies? I find them quite interesting.
