I'm curious if Kylo is actually going to be menacing for any portion of this movie. Vader makes him look like a pubescent Mr Rogers.

This whole trilogy feels like it was created by a committee that prefers bland consensus over ingenuity. The prequel trilogy felt like it was created by a disconnected loon with way too much money, and I honestly think I prefer that trilogy over this one.

exactly. All the villains in the sequels are weak. Kylo reminds me of a temper tantrum throwing teen because his voice just cracked due to puberty

Darn, I have a bad feeling about this movie. You would think with all the $millions they spend that the story would be epic.
Waiting 2 years for this and then WTF are they thinking? I'm already prepared to be disappointed.

Ha! You said the line!

More reviews from critics are in: 227 this morning.
Score is now 58%.

2nd worst rated SW movie to date (EP1 taking the honors and EP2 close behind)
I'm still looking forward to seeing it (6pm tickets for tonight). It will still be good in the sense of being a huge, blockbuster action movie. But I don't think that can outweigh the fact that it will likely put the final nail in the destruction of the Skywalker storyline. Such a shame. Disney royally fucked this up.

I rest the blame on Kennedy and Abrams for this. They made a trilogy without having a basic narrative and made it up as they went. It shows...Somebody should have stood up and said this isnt right.

Star Wars is a joke and Lucus choose wisely to start with the middle of this saga. It sure the hell is a shitty soap opera set in space.

JJ ruined both Star Trek and Star Wars in the last decade. That's quite an accomplishment!

Kennedy should've already been canned and I hope this results in her being shown the door.

To be fair it’s been ruined since 1997.

We did...
We really truly did...

We all did but was there not one involved in the creation of this abomination to say Noooooo!

They were actually PROUD of that too....they wanted guest directors to come in and make the movies their own.

Yeah, great idea.

As the theater laughed in horror at the "super Leia" scene in The Last Jedi... All I could think of was "How could anyone not speak up to tell them how stupid this was?"

When the prequels came out I asked people "how hard is it to just tell a good story?".
As time goes on I'm finding the answer: Pretty damn hard.

Yeah, great idea.

Kennedy and Lucasfilm should have dedicated 1 month to hammer out a basic course they wanted to take this trilogy. IMO with the key points finalized you could fill in the blanks and make a decent film.

Speaking of spoilers, thanks to a dickhead at the New Yorker providing a spoiler-filled review with no warning, I now know the big plot twist.
Not that it matters. I wasnt planning to see this movie at the theater, or enjoy it whenever I did see it.

i Love the way they let you figure out that what fin had to say to ray was that he’s force sensitive.

I love that you have to pice it together k owing 1) troopers are taken as kids 2) in the last movie we see kids gaining force sensitivity across the galaxy, 3) the other troupers fin encounters that stopped were also driven by the force not to fire on civilians.

If palps would have gave a monologue explaining everything he did to manipulate the events of episode 1-8 that would have went a LOOONG way.
It was already established he was learning how to cheat death, but he could have James Bond villain laid all the cards out. It all feels vague and disjointed. Like a soulution to a problem I didn’t know I had.

What a pile of hot garbage.

Don't click on the spoiler unless you wanna know shit.

Who's genius idea was it to have Palpatine's reveal happen off screen between VIII and IX? WTF

Oh "The FINAL Order" is after everybody with mini-death star lasers attached to their star destroyers that are vulnerable to a few blaster bolts from a starfighter. Jesus Christ.
The totally crazy character turn with Hux was nuts. I shared the disbelief on the faces of the main characters because fuck it made no sense at all.

Fake Leia looks bad. No way around this. The shots used to give the illusion she was on set were extremely obvious. We are promised it would be fine and well...

Why the hell is force ghost Luke doing all goddamed work?

Almost every emotional moment is rushed through in the service of what passes for an overcrammed but under developed plot. Basically none of it works even as good as TFA, let alone TLJ or the originals.

Oh C-3PO's memory is just back after making a big deal about wiping him. Way to have no stakes.

Aside from these and other rants It's generally unbelievable what a mess this movie is and how clear it is that JJ wanted to expunge TLJ and what an incredibly poor job was done in the name of that mission and the overall fan service he tried to provide.

I like it. I was entertained. There are obvious plot problems but this can be said for every SW movie (and virtually every movie).
It was never going to be wrapped up cleanly and concisely.
In the end, as a fan since the very beginning, I was entertained and enjoyed it.

And this is why I refuse to see the garbage. Disney can have its canon, but I have mine - I define SW as Episodes I-VI and I never thought I'd say this, but my continuation from those movies is the Zahn trilogy.

Episodes VII - IX are hot garbage and are nothing more than Disney's attempt to "Marvel-ize" the SW universe. JJ Abrams ruined Star Trek and now Star Wars. Congrats Disney! At least The Mandalorian and Clone Wars are great.

I too consider the Zahn trilogy as the true sequels. Thrawn is an awesome, yet humanoid, villian. Even tho he's blue.
