While Carrie Fisher was almost painful to watch and Harrison Ford did about the best decrepit Han Solo that one can imagine Mark Hamill aged into the role of a grizzled old Jedi master about as perfectly as possible.

Watched it tonight, was great. Now I don't have to worry so much about spoilers anymore!

Princess Leia turns to the dark side and is eventually killed by Luke Skywalker.

When people ask me what I thought of the movie, I'm going to tell them that I was sad when the Wookie died :)

Didn't he also practice shooting on those weird desert rat creatures, or am I thinking of something else?

Womp rats. Thats how big the target was on the death star. Luke said he could shoot those, but I doubt he practiced shooting those traveling full speed in a space craft.

The thing is... everything about Rey could've been explained with a few quick things inserted. For example, we could've seen her messing with the Y-wing computer's flight sim when she heard BB-8 cry out. It would've only lasted a few seconds, and boom... we would've been able to go back to that in our minds when she went to fly the ship.

Thats kinda my only major complaint. A little more info here and there would have made it much better.

Kevin Smith said he liked the phantom menace, so I couldn't give less of a fuck of what he has to say.

Funnily enough, he addresses this directly:

I actually agree with him. Phantom Menace wasn't bad on the initial viewing. Its when you saw it the second and third time where you started to pick it apart. I still think it, and the other prequels did a lot of good things. Its just that the low points were pretty bad. And it was like 20 years in between movies, so people wanted to love it. This time around people are more weary. Most important thing this movie did was get people interested in Star Wars again. Anyone saying Force Awakens is the best is like those guys saying the Prequels were the best. I'm sure in time they will look at them objectively.

Although I clearly asked for 2 tickets to star wars, the lady at the theater rang it up as "Alvin and the Chipmunks" then she told me to go to theater 6 which was the SW theater. I wonder how many other people the theater did this for.

Why would they do that?

Oooo, that's sneaky. The payout for Alvin must be a lot better than for SW. Although if the theater reports a sudden spike in attendance for Alvin just when SW comes out, that's going to look suspicious.

edit: actually, they probably split the tix over all of the other movies so it doesn't look suspicious.

To me, The Force Awakens is the best Star Wars film.

1 - 3 are bad

4 - 6 are ok

I have never been a huge Star Wars fan. JJ Abrams did for Star Wars what he did for Star Trek, saved the movie franchise.

Well, if you're not into Star Wars thats understandable. Probably not into Star Trek either, although there was only one great Star Trek movie before the reboot.

You know, i gotta say, as much as people crap on the prequels, they did have better lightsaber battles than 4-6 (and TFA as well).

I agree with this to an extent. The Force Awakens wasn't the best movie ever but much better than the others, and likewise his Star Trek movies were better too. I love scifi but can't stand Star Wars or Trek though, so even JJ's better movies still suck because of the worlds they take place in.

And this was probably addressed before, but the casting for Kylo Ren was horrible! Ugly dude with huge ears and nose and the acting was terrible.

The girl that plays Rey is sexy though. :)

Movie is good but not great. Thank God Lucas was not in control.

Solid 6/10. But this is no episodes 4-6.

The ending could have been better.
the fight sequence should have been more epic. And the Luke reveal faster.

I dont think Lukes daughter, He cant take a wife or have kids if he truly followed the ways of the Jedi. But yeah even if separated at a very young age they would have to know. Although Han did jump at the chance to partner with her and Leia did hug her before Chewie, the falcon was on her planet, and they Han did get wind of it real fast.

Im still leaning towards twins.

Dude kissed his sister and having kids are off limits? Actually, what movie said no kids?

I was thinking about the movie today and have decided the only issue I have at this point is understanding wtf issue the son of Han and Leia could possibly have that would make him go all emo 'I hate my parents and the world! But I love my dead grandad though all I know is this melted mask!'.

the love story between finn and rey cant be any worse than Anakin and Mathilda/Natalie portman

I didn't get a love interest vibe from them. I saw it more as a friendship, perhaps a familial thing. Rey even calls Finn "my friend" at the end and kisses him on the forehead like a brother. Of course it could easily turn into a romance in the next movie and I'm OK with that, but I didn't see any real signs of that in this movie. I've only seen it once, though. Did I miss something?
