Theres ALWAYS something better coming..... And DLP is the wave of the future and so id HDTV. I would thienk "thecnically" advanced people such as ourselves would welcome new and better technology but it seems that people are content living in the analog spectrum. Well Im not, I have a HDTV and watch all the movies in DLP that I can. The only reason things arent progressing faster is the dumbasses that think what we have now is good enough. Id like to see you make that same argument in the CPU wars. Would you be satisified with the computing power we have now??? Hell no I want faster and better and eventually cheaper.... The technology will come around and eventually become cheaper but if we keep at the current atitude toward the digital spectrum we never will see new technology. That said I saw spiderman this afternoon in the theaters, and let me say this the quality sucked balls... It was blurry and the colors wern't there, and dont tell me it was my theater, its the analog crap. Ive been watching HDTV for about 6 months so everything looks blurry and has washed out colors. Its a shame that most of you are missing out.

no, not really. it takes a bit of maturation before a digital technology can pass up analog. just look at vcd!! it looks like cr@p because it was so low bitrate, but it was "digital". sweet macroblocks, luckily it didn't catch on. now look at dvd/hdtv, now its unquestionably better then VHS, but it took years. hell HDTV is still trying to catch on. look at digital cameras. sure they are "ok" right now at 4+ megapixels, but they aren't truely film quality yet. foveons just around the corner. and yes everything is just around the corner, but using reason you can choose when its truely justified to upgrade. right now spending over a hundred k for a digital projector that barely matches conventional 35mm is just sad. especially when i'm sure they are so close to coming up with better projectors and higher capacity discs so they can use less compression.

and don't even bring up CPU's. thats a piss poor comparison. If theaters upgraded every 6-12months then sure why the hell not, but they don't and can't.

think of it this way. why replace your VHS with VCD?

and i'm sorry you live close to a sorry @ss theater. with correct calibration the picture shouldn't have been blurry at all. my theaters are fine thank you.

Im not saying that the theaters need to upgrade every 12 months... let me rephrase. Would you be happy with a 486 66 today? I sure as hell wouldnt and thats what the theaters are using now... 20 yr old technology... I was talking about the principle of it. An I know most of you that flame HDTV and DLP havent ever TRUELY seen it. Im ont talkin about wathcing the demos in Sears, that doesnt count. I am talking about watching HBO and HDnet, because if you have seen those two channels there is no possible way you cna say that HDTV sucks....

Anyway, I'm one of unlucky people not having a digital theatre near me. I hope it looks as good as the Digital once!
What are you talking about? Your profile says Toronto, right?

Famous Players Paramount
259 Richmond St. West.
Toronto, Ontario M5V3M6
Canada
Tel: 416-368-5600

More complete list of DLP cinemas, straight from the horses mouth

one I'll be going to is:

Galaxy Theatres at Conestoga Mall
550 King St., North, Waterloo
Ontario, N2L 5W6
Canada
Tel: 519 883 8843

Apparently, although the Toronto site has the equipment, they're not showing it there digitally. See here:

Famous Players Paramount (Moved to FP Colossus)
Toronto, Ontario
Canada

This is suck, because the Toronto one is downtown and about a 15 minute walk from my place. The FP Colossus is a good half hour drive in suburban wasteland. ;)

Anyways, what is the resolution of the projectors? The images are rendered at very high resolutions, but I wonder what the final output resolution is. In ideal situations, I would guess that a film transfer to 70 mm or something could have a slightly higher effective resolution, but nothing is ever ideal of course.
