Star Trek Online....Are You Ready?

It's about to start. How many of you have waited patiently for the past 2 years to be able to play this game, to be able to enter the Star Trek universe like never before. I built an entire computer system just to be able to play this game. This is the time we will look back on, 2 years, 3 years later. One expansion, two expansions later. This is the time we will think about and say we were here from the beginning. The previews are over. The FBI Copyright Message that stays up on the screen for what seems to be an eternity has just gone off. The movie is about to start. Everyone have fun, enjoy, and let's make this not only the best game out there but the best gaming community out there as well. Peace.

The question is not 'Are we ready?' but 'Is the game going to be ready?'

Appreciate your enthusiasm and wish you luck, but I am not hitting 'the Academy' until I get some reports back.....

whoa, someone's taking this pretty seriously

ssshhh, he might take that crack poorly, hunt you down, and go columbine/unabomber/postal on your a.., err, backside

It will be interesting to read the Star Trek MMO verses Star Wars MMO sissy fights in the near future. Except the SWTOR mmo keeps getting delayed.

It's just harmless enthusiasm ^_^ Trying to get as many people as possible to try this game!

I'm waiting for the red shirts to go in first on this one captain

Anakin, Luke, Han, and/or Yoda never needed the red shirts to go in first... "In first, the red shirts, need not go, mmmm" Ya' bunch of pansies. edit: but then again, both Anakin and Luke lost an arm/hand... Ah, whatever. “Never tell me the odds!” AAARRRGH! <pew> <pew>

And yes, Capt Kirk would kick Capt Piccard's ass. :awe: edit: Twice, and then steal his woman...

I'd rather play a very good single-player focused Star Trek game instead, something along the lines of Dragon Age or Mass Effect in terms of story telling and scripted events, combined with some open ended exploration (not too much however). I don't think I'll buy Star Trek Online. And what's the monthly fee for it anyway?

Price will be the typical $49.99 - $59.99 for the retail package at release, I believe $64.99+ for the "collector's edition" at release. Subscription fee will be the typical $14.99/month with discounts for bulk block prepayment. There will undoubtedly be various micropayment add-ons available through the C-Store as well.

Currently it is undetermined whether or not there will be a pre-purchase lifetime subscription option, but likely there will be to the tune of $199 (if Champions Online) was any indication.

There are preorder bonuses from various vendors. The list of who offers what is available on the STO website.

IMHO: This game will absolutely not be ready for its February release. It needs a good three to six months more of development and another three months of polishing a final development build. Yes, they keep changing fundamental things in the game even at this late phase. How can you polish something that isn't even feature-complete? That, and they don't have nearly enough content in the game.

In case anyone is wondering, only two playable "factions" at launch: Federation and Klingon. Races on the other hand are about 8 plus "custom". That's right, no Romulans, Cardassians, Tholians, Dominion, Borg, etc.

Early adopters beware: Cryptic has absolutely NO qualms about bringing out a zero-day patch which fundamentally changes game play across the entire game. For anyone that doesn't plan on playing until after day zero, not a big deal. For anyone that participates in the beta prior to release, expect something completely different from what you tested in the beta in terms of game play.

no, but i'd be interested if it was based on TNG series instead.

Is it based on the original series??? I haven't been following this game as I hate MMO's but like Star Trek.
It's based on both and neither.

STO is an amalgam of what is essentially the TNG, DS9 and Post-Voyager (ST:Nemesis) universe. They have included some TOS elements (uniforms, some "Old" ships), but the actual game universe takes place post Voyager's return to Earth and defeat of the Borg.

I will admit this is the first MMO that I've considered playing in years. But I'm still scarred from SWG and have plenty of other games going right now.

'We'll see' is my official position for now.
