apparently my connection failed, windows unknown error and for the one out of twenty five attempts to connect that actually lets me in it crashed after 2-3 minutes. I saw this fix listed on the star citizen forums

https://forums.robertsspaceindustri...7/core-2-quad-qxxxx-fixed-starcitizens-exe/p1

Not sure if its legit downloading random stuff scares me what does everyone else think?

**its a core 2 quad issue**

it seems ok. this is all alpha anyway so why not give it a shot? we're all guinea pigs here anyway.

Avenger Titan would be my suggestion. All hail space penguins!

It seems only the Avenger Stalker is available atm.

It lists the Titan as a module. Is this something I can add to the Stalker when it becomes available? Or will I just melt the ship and convert to the Titan?

I still need to read up on how the ships and modules work. It'd be nice if I could have an Avenger, and mod it in my hangar for w/e business I need to get done.

I'm also thinking about just getting a Cutlass Black. It seats 3 and seems pretty nice.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Cutlass-Black

It's a hair more than I want to spend and I'm thinking if I'm going to get the Reliant, maybe I should just wait on a multi-crew ship for now, save my cash and get an Avenger Stalker since it's only $30 more than my current pledge.

It's very confusing, but the Avenger Titan is a ship....it's not a module (despite the description). The penguin is fun to fly. But I'm not a big fan of the HUD or the 2D radar. Hope you can upgrade that in the future (or I just get used to it).....but I'm probably CCUing to a Reliant anyway....

I'm thinking I want to get a single crew fighter for now.. and get a 2nd ship for multi-crew. It'll be easier for me to spend the money in a few months anyway. I just ordered 2 Thrustmaster - T-16000M's and have some other bills to pay. So if I'm going to wait to get a 2nd ship, I think I'll wait for the Reliant.

So I'm really considering the Avenger.

I also like the look of the 325A. The look is more up my alley but I'm not sure if it's appropriate or not. Wish I could test drive them...

You CAN test drive some ships. You need to earn REC (rental equipment credits) by playing in public matches within Arena Commander. I'm partial to racing Old Vanderval.....even if you finish last you'll get some REC and each race is about 3-4 minutes long. With REC you can rent ships/guns/etc. for short-term trial.

Search the CIG site for the article on REC.....

I'm terrible at racing. I haven't done a space sim in a long time. I tried racing and I gave up and just explored the area haha.

They actually are modules. Since the module system isn't complete, they sold them as variants until later when you can swap the modules at will. Think of it as buying a module and it comes with an Avenger to use it with. Once the tech is there, you can swap them as long as you have the module.

so if I buy the base avenger and just sit on it.. I'll eventually be able to buy the module?

Don't care about a 2 person ship at this point, because I'll likely be playing mostly by myself for a while, and if someone does join me, they can fly themselves lol

Since exploration isn't really the highlight of the playability of the current alpha, I just want a ship that can fight good enough and is a little more fun to fly than the aurora.

I agree with Sabre - Avenger. Most versatile single-seat fighter in the game right now for the money. I just wish you could replace the front gun with any weapon you wanted - - at least it's a really good gun.

Ship is fast and handles well (hard turn blackout bug ATM though, I'm sure they'll get it fixed).

I would love to recommend the Gladius but I'm not until they get it fixed.

I actually love the 2D radar, as I can acquire targets a lot more quickly than I can with the holo-ball. Maybe the two radar options are something they'll make select-able at some point.

If you're picking between an Avenger and a Cutlass, I would go with the Avenger right now. Cutlass is undergoing a rework and is a slug ATM as a dog-fighter. I hope to see it get a lot better.

I just ordered 2 Thrustmaster - T-16000M's and have some other bills to pay. So if I'm going to wait to get a 2nd ship, I think I'll wait for the Reliant.

Welcome to the dual-stick fold. ;) 300X series is another ship going under a complete rework. Currently the 300i is the best performer in the bunch as the others are all bugged in some way. I wouldn't expect any of those bugs to get fixed because it would be a waste of time with the remodel pass.

The Avenger has a lot of advantages over the 300 right now. The only advantage the 300 has is the ability to change out the nose gun to an S3. I flew a 315p for the majority of my time in AC Battle Royale. It aims really well with a joystick and handled great. It was a great ship in AC 1.2, if not a bit fragile. Back when you could put a Mantis on the nose without it overheating it was very nice.

Like rivet said - renting them is a great way to see where they are.

I honestly think we'll see it hangar ready within the next few weeks. On last week's AtV Darien stated that they were really close and working on landing gear animation and damage states.

You might be right. They indicated they had a big surprise coming for the next LIVE. Maybe that's it.

Damn.

So I was invited onto a Retaliator to man the rear right turret. Big ship.

Had a full team on board. We quantum'd somewhere. Where? Not sure, but there was an asteroid belt. Just as I am getting excited......... crash to desktop.

I'm now the proud owner of a Gladius.

I earned one through the referral program. I honestly never expected to generate so many referrals. A few weeks ago, I only had 3 (I believe 2 were ATers).....that earned me two free S1 repeaters and S1 gimbals.

I don't know a lot of people and I definitely don't have a twich stream or youtube channel to plug my referral code on.

All I did was this:

1) I added my referral code to my signature on the CIG forums. Mods won't let you promote your referral code in forum posts, but signature is ok.
2) I added my referral code to the Reddit referral code randomizer. Not sure what volume that tool gets, but my code was like one of 2,700 codes on the list.

Two weeks later....I've got 10 referrals. In addition to the Gladius (earned at 10 referrals) I earned a Greycat and aquarium for my hangar at 5. Honestly, that was my "goal" when I did the two steps above....I just wanted to get to 5 to get a "free" Greycat.

One other surprise - when they attributed the Gladius to my account, I got access to the next hangar level (Aeroview?). Not sure why....is it based on dollar value of ships you own?

Now this may seem weird, but all of this now forces me to re-think my approach to playing Star Citizen. I originally backed with an Aurora LN and intended to "earn" my way up the ladder in-game both in terms of the ships I own as well as my hangar. I liked the idea of starting in the slums with a Self Land hangar and an Aurora and seeing what I could make of myself.

But I now find myself with three ships in an Aeroview hangar decked out with an aquarium and Greycat!

I know, I know....third world problems....

That's pretty awesome that you got so much traction with your referral code.

I think that tells me I spend too much time on the CIG forums!

I honestly think that's where most of the traction came from. The CIG forums tend to ebb and flow. At times (like recently) there are some interesting discussions. Other times they're unbearable with volumes of complaining and whining.

Regarding the Gladius, my initial thought was to CCU it to a Hull B the first chance I get. I'm not really into the combat aspect of the game. However, I'm starting to re-think that. Although cargo hauling will likely still be my primary role in SC, I could see myself taking on some anti-vanduul missions for a change.

It's nice that SC gives us so many options.

If we're ever on the same instance, you're welcome to join my Tali. I hardly take her out due to such manning requirements. The S2 weapons on the turrets were a nice buff, though.

I doubt the referral code randomizer did much for you. I've had mine in since the day the guy created it and I have zero referrals. I upload random videos to my youtube channel now and then and I've started throwing my referral code on there, but I have no branding so I don't get much traffic.

As far as the RSI forums go, I only visit the Subscribers Den and Concierge forum, so that's why that would never work for me. If you can see it you are already in, lol. Though, I do hit up the shipyards occasionally.

That's awesome, Rivet!! Of course, you know I love the Gladius....I wish you could have flown it in 1.2. I would keep it around to see where it goes because I have a feeling it will end back up with some of its old speed and maneuvering glory. Or at least if you don't like it you'll still have something cool to kill Vanuuls with until the Hull makes it to the hangar.

Congrats on the fish tank, too. I love the fish tank, as insignificant as it may seem. I even bought a few more fish in the VD store because I couldn't resist. ;)

I really like Aeroview, but I'm also one of those people that really likes the Selfland hangar. I think it has a really cool S.T.A.L.K.E.R. / Metro vibe to it.

Just got through manning the lower turret on a Connie. Pretty intense fire fight with us ending up at Cryastro for repairs. I new we were in trouble when I swung around to face the rear and saw this.

EDIT:Sorry for the extra large pic. This was uncropped and unfiltered just how I saw it go down.

If you damage your ship in this game you have to pay real money for repairs (directly or indirectly)?

No. The only thing you need real money for in this game is to purchase the game at the beginning. It's a pay-once and you're done model.

If you damage your ship in-game, you'll need to spend in-game money that you've earned in-game to repair it. You will be able to earn in-game money, even without a ship (as a crew member of another ship).

Thanks Stringjam. Yeah, I'm kind of a sucker for hangar flair, so I'm looking forward to the aquarium too. Nice to have a bit of color in the hangar.

I had no problems with the Selfland Hangar except one - even after the lighting pass done recently I thought it was still a bit too dark. I'm looking forward to the Aeroview just as a change of scenery.

Unfortunately I can't experience any of my new goodies until this weekend. I'm only on the PTU and they've updated. Won't be able to download the latest update until Saturday.

So should I be using the "Live" client or PTU? Performance is a little too erratic on Live for me, and the HUD always seems to go berserk in the middle of combat.
