Pay real money for repairs? This isn't some free to play mobile game.
If you damage your ship in-game, you'll need to spend in-game money that you've earned in-game to repair it. You will be able to earn in-game money, even without a ship (as a crew member of another ship).
Then what is that thing with ship insurance that seems to be paid with real money?

And those in-game money are easy to gain? Or you need to grind for hours to replace a damaged rear view mirror on your car starship :) (with the option to buy in-game money with real money for a quick fix)?

there is no thing where you pay real money for ship insurance. Everything in the game will be paid for by in game money (UEC). They will still sell starter packages as the way people purchase the game but other than that, UEC will pay for everything.

So should I be using the "Live" client or PTU? Performance is a little too erratic on Live for me, and the HUD always seems to go berserk in the middle of combat.

2.1 PTU is way more stable than 2.0 live by all accounts.

I recommend using 2.1 PTU.

Until recently ships bought with real money had lifetime insurance its been said the in game cost for insurance won't be significant but at this time its unknown

Hard to say what the in game costs will be I'd guess it will be like most games where if you have a big elaborate ship the cost would be high maybe too high for a brand new player but that's a good thing if not we'd all have one or two go to ships that did everything.

Just got through manning the lower turret on a Connie. Pretty intense fire fight with us ending up at Cryastro for repairs. I new we were in trouble when I swung around to face the rear and saw this.

EDIT:Sorry for the extra large pic. This was uncropped and unfiltered just how I saw it go down.

Once you own the game, no more money need be paid. It's not a microtransaction model either where people who wish to pay get it easier. There will be the option after the game goes live to buy UEC, but it will be in very limited quantities per day. The proceeds from this will go to funding infrastructure and game updates. Ship sales will stop around the time the Alpha phase stops.

The only thing we know about grinding thus far is that CR doesn't want it to be grinding. He intends you to amass money through smart decisions and having fun. The rough idea thrown out there is that a ship like the Constellation would take around 60 hours of gameplay to earn, but that is a very vague statement subject to a lot of interpretation.

Was really hoping to see the Starfarer in the hangar with the live release but I guess I'll keep waiting.

Congrats Vanguard owners!

I sure do wish they'd fix the holotable shield bug. Pretty disappointed that hasn't been addressed yet.

I was really hoping to see the Reliant in the hangar. I guess we all have our wishes!

From what I heard on yesterday's AtV the Starfarer is so damn big that they are having to go back and re-do our hangars to make sure it fits. Sounds like a lot of work :-(

Even though I don't own either of those, I would love to see them in hangar. The Starfarer is like its own level it's so big, I imagine it's a good bit more work getting it there than just about any other ship to this point.

Not only that, like you said, I believe they're having to modify the R&Y hangar to get it to fit.

Hey Citizens! I'm back from my 2 day vacation. :p I forgot pcgaming wasn't P&N

My bad.

2.1 is live now! If you're worried about download and have the latest PTU, then just copy those files over to the live folder, delete /user, and verify files. That should work!

check out this loop I made

I started thinking about this.....I think I know why the Vanguard was the big surprise (and why the Sabre will be the next flight ready ship): they're fast-tracking all the combat ships so that they can use those assets within Squadron 42.

It might be awhile before we see any non pew-pew ships come online.

I think this would be a good decision for the dev pipeline.

There's really not much to explore yet, so I think a lot of the exploration ships are less appreciated than the fighters right now.

Absolutely. It's probably a good decision from a marketing standpoint too as pew-pew sells more than exploration, cargo hauling, people hauling, etc.

I was willing to pay a little more and upgrade to a 2 person ship, but I couldn't justify it when I knew it would mostly be dog fighting and vanduul swarm stuff at least for a few more iterations of the alpha.

So I figured I'd get a fighter now, and pickup a Relient Sen down the road when getting 2 people together to explore makes more sense. I've already seen what feels like every lick of space around Crusader.

I wish they would fix the holo-table by destroying it with fire. ;)

Yeah, me too.

I got into Crusader a bit today to try out my Connie. Took out three Vanguards in a row (first and third were the same guy). They're glass cannons right now. The Connie's 155 SCM speed is too slow, but with AB it's manageable. ~650 CRU for the Connie is unacceptable. My 300i in AB on SCM is almost that fast.

A lot of work to be done, for sure.

Yeah, I don't get why the big ships are so slow now compared to the release of 2.0. They also nerfed speed on the Freelancer. The Vanguard is also too slow....there's no way it should barely be faster than a Freelancer.

These big ships have enormous engines for a reason, right? I mean, look at the size of the nacelles on the Connie. How slow is it going to fly when its full of cargo or has that big rover in there?

^^^ This ^^^

It should be a much more simple interface showing the equipment that is on the ship and equipment you have available which can be put in its place. Tweaking/hacking/tinkering/overclocking can have its own interface/sub-interface, but the basic equipment selection should be very relatively straightforward.

Was thinking about going from a Super Hornet to a Freelancer DUR. I really love the look of the Freelancer, but that cockpit visibility... way too constrained. It's so bad that I will probably never fly the thing or its variants, which is a real shame.

anybody know when the $45 packages go away? The ones that include both games?

I'm thinking about picking up a 2nd account so my friends can join me without having to sign up themselves.

No official word has been provided. But they have alluded to Jan 31st being the date when Squadron 42 will be split off into it's own separate product.
