The article is about employees in CIG speaking out about a range of problems related to the work environment and project development, but he is ranting about Derek Smart. Literally, the only mention of Smart is in a quote of Roberts. This game is going to be a smoking ruin.

At this point, anybody who hasn't sold their ship stock to break even or profit is an idiot.

Really? This article is nothing more than conjecture pieced together from 9 employees (six former) out of 300 employees. Basically, an opinion piece generated from less than 3% of an employee base (and with a bias at that).

I bought an Aurora starter package. I spent $45. I've received more than $45 worth of entertainment out of this already. Everything after (and there will be more) is just gravy.

And yet you're calling ME the idiot?

Not sure what your agenda is, but calling people idiots isn't helping advance it.

I feel the exact same may my friend ;)

Im sure he is not. Its the people who spent more then $45 on a video game that are idiots.

Oh they are stupid suckers. The best people to sucker are those who think they are smart.

His response was basically "there are 2 sides to every story" The only thing he did do was finally admit Sandy is his wife.

Really?

The only direct answer to the HR issues was "We can't comment directly on HR issues because typical legal company policies prevent it." Then if you move further down to one of the other questions you'll find this little nugget:

Under Erin’s leadership at head of Global Production we’ve re-organized to make things more efficient (which is really what started this flap in the first place)

Like I said, take your money and go home if you don't like what's going on. Otherwise sit back, shut the fuck up and enjoy the ride.

So you want all dissenting opinion to be silenced?

Do you think that people talking about the massive delays and feature creep will kill the game? Or do you think its the actual massive delays and feature creep that will kill the game?

I.

Don't.

Care.

What I do care about is conversation about actual game content, not whining and conjecture. This shit is ridiculous to see rehashed on a daily basis. I've said it before and I'll say it again - it's a crowdfunded title. If you weren't willing to consider the money you backed with "expendable" in the first place, you did it wrong.

We dont discuss this every day. A new article came out and christ roberts responded. Therefore the thread about star citizen has on topic discussion about this new stuff. If you want the thread to only be discussions about in game activities then make a thread about that.

His response was basically "there are 2 sides to every story" The only thing he did do was finally admit Sandy is his wife.

No, his response was to make up some conspiracy theory about Derek Smart being behind everything and then go on to personally & viciously attack the journalist who wrote the article. And this confirms one of the central arguments of the article's sources, that Roberts is a megalomaniac that attacks anyone who contradicts him in any way.

I don't have an agenda, crazy pants. I'm just lol-ing at a huge mess and the people too stupid to understand what's going on. There isn't some conspiracy out to get Roberts or to tank this game. Everything that has come out about CIG is consistent with a terribly managed company with no competent oversight.

9 out of 300 employees went out of their way to respond to an OP Ed piece and tell the reporter a consistent story of mismanagement in the company. Many more people have been quitting and keeping their mouths shut. 9 whistleblowers out of a team of 300 is quite a lot, especially with someone as vindictive as Roberts has shown himself to be in his attacks on this journalist.

Guess what, conspiracy joe, Alex Mayberry probably didn't leave CIG in June, only after a year as Executive Producer, for "personal reasons." He probably left for the same reasons why the sources for this article contacted the journalist and told their consistent story... http://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-citizen-executive-producer-quits-as-dev-opens/1100-6428662/

the dsmart response to all this new stuff:

http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sniofq

In July, after I got wind of the Star Citizen project in trouble, unable to deliver, backer money being wasted, I started to investigate it.

I got in touch with Chris to try and get some more details from him. He ignored both of my inquiries on LinkedIn and Facebook.

So I continued with my research and subsequently published that first blog, Interstellar Citizens.

http://www.dereksmart.org/2015/07/i...ellar-citizens/

Then, in what can only be described as sheer madness, they lost their minds and made it personal.

They canceled my backer account, and refunded me. Without my asking.

Then to make matters worse, they sent out a press statement about my being refunded, and my account canceled.

http://www.pcgamer.com/derek-smart-star-citizen/

Then tried to make it look like I had somehow violated their ToS for the game and the website.

Problem is 1) I have never posted on their forums 2) I have never downloaded the game due it not being complete nor playable. They actually confirmed this in their legal response letter as mentioned in this blog.

http://www.dereksmart.com/2015/09/s...n-the-long-con/

Then they doubled down when Ben Lesnick in customer service, made a public forum post about it.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustri...Comment_5304637

All these actions were taken in obvious retaliation for the blog and the fact that it got widespread release in the media.

As you can now see, they simply made it worse by making themselves subject to the Streisand Effect.

They bet on my being completely vilified for writing an opinion based and technical blog. Forgetting that I have been a fixture of this industry for almost 30 years and that sort of tenure has its merits.

So I kept digging and writing. All the while Chris and Sandra kept making defamatory statements about me both in writing and in person. And there are people willing to be deposed under oath about the aforementioned statements.

[UPDATE 2: An army of Star Citizen fans have predictably started attacking me for writing this article. Bear in mind that I'm simply reporting on a report, and liberally using words like "allegations" and "claims." However, many of you seem content to discard these allegations as false simply because Roberts says they're false, which is more disturbing than any claims contained in this article.]

Lol...not that fanboyism surprises me anymore...

oh it became a religion in 2013. They should file as a church and never pay taxes.

ninja edit (instead of making new posts) from the comments section of the forbes article:

> To be fair, that seems like an exaggeration, but my gut tells me it’s at least rooted in some truth
I think you urgently needs to see your gastroenterologist.
> You should absolutely read it and judge for yourself,
My judgement made me go and donate another $1000 to the SC development because of all you so called “journalists”.

Man, I’m clearly in the wrong industry if you’re so easily parted with your hard earned money over this.

today is a funny day in star citizen.

I don't know anything about Derek Smart, but reading one of his blog posts he appears to have an ego the size of Mars.

Oh he is a ridiculous man this is for sure. But that doesnt mean he doesnt know what he is talking about.

I think the most damning and shocking news of today is all the deflection and weird, crazy things in Roberts' response. It's basically an insane rant making up all kinds of really weird allegations. I don't think there will be ANY outside investment to save the game, because it is obvious that CIG being run by someone who has lost touch with reality. Here is a good response to his rant:

He should have just had a marketing flak write a bland response and this wouldn't have been so bad. But his response is going to hurt them much, much more.

Why would I do that? I'm having a BLAST in Arena Commander. If they shut down the servers tomorrow I will have still gotten my money's worth.

I'll just keep playing and having fun until the lights go out.

Forbes? Meh. I'm holding out for TMZ.

Again:

Me: Spent $45. Already received more $45 worth of entertainment out of that expenditure. More than satisfied.

You: I'm an idiot. And now I'm crazy. And now I'm stupid.

Damn. You and I have really different definitions of those words apparently. Best of luck to you.

I've seen Forbes authors tell me to sell my shares in stock A because stock B will do better. With plenty of allegations and conjecture as to why.

Turns out the author holds no shares of stock A, but owns shares in stock B.

This article was kind of like that. With full disclosure at the end:

"In the meantime, I think it’s time to revisit Elite: Dangerous, a great space sim that’s actually finished."

This is a reasonable post, and if you are satisfied with an unfinished game demo for your $$$, then that's your prerogative, but then you go ahead and post the following:

This is a conspiracy theory you've spun out of whole cloth, mr. crazy pants. That forbes journalist isn't in a vast conspiracy to support Elite or denigrate CIG. He's a video game reporter for a financial publication who can spot a game in development hell, and anyone who hasn't drunk the Chris Roberts kool aide can spot the MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY red flags that make it obvious that this game is in major trouble.

Enjoy your expensive game demo, because the FCC is going to end CIG before an actual game comes out.

The thing that Chris Roberts said in that escapist response that pisses me off the most is this:
Could we have shipped a small scale 30 mission game in the old Wing Commander format in two years? Yes, but that's not the game the community wants or the game we're building.

That is exactly what the first kickstarter was for! But this arrogant megalomaniac went crazy with all the free $$$ and decided to build the game to end all games, instead of the game people actually paid you for. Now, there's nothing but a couple of demos, broken promises, and a coming storm of litigation.

Today's article is just the tip of the ice berg. The next year is going to be steady news stories of Roberts and his wife's arrogance, incompetence, and self delusion.

Yeah, no. He put stretch goals. We collectively said that we wanted this game. You kids just amuse me.

"Couple of demos" --> Keep sliding those goal posts buddy. Are we going to change this to "A few" when the FPS comes out? How about when the exoverse comes out?

"Broken Promises" --> CR already addressed this, but pulling out this DS bull just amuses me.

"Coming storm of litigation" --> BWHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Keep dreaming DS, keep dreaming. Next time, at least have the lawyer sign the letter
