Racing is a decent way to earn REC if you don't care for the public combat matches.

You can expect your fellow citizens to stop in front of gates and other dirty tactics, and the multiplayer servers are acting badly especially under load, and the starting grid is poorly designed, but if you like racing games it can be fun.

I've made a ton of REC so far.

I've been following SC, patiently waiting.
Meanwhile I'd like to note - as a non-US citizen, the prices they have on everything are completely absurd.

However, with people casually giving $100-500 to the project, it may be just fine from an american perspective (and it seems to be working).

Anyway, I'm glad the project can get enough funding to be something truly great. I'll keep waiting 🙂

Dude $100-$500 US is a big chunk of money for a game.

Um....$35 gets you the game and a ship. Were's all this $100 to $500 dollar talk coming from? Is it the VAT?

Agreed.

Here's my first REC experience:

Saturday morning (right after 1.1 patch release and before the servers crashed) I started a race with five other pilots at Old Vanderval. Within a minute, four drop out leaving me (in an Aurora) and Baior (a damn good pilot if you follow what's said about him on the forums) in a Gladius. Baior finished the race in about 4 minutes....just enough time for me cross the finish line the FIRST time (i.e. one lap!).

I got second place. 4 minutes of playing time. 2400 REC. Crazy.

Full disclosure: the next match I raced in, no one dropped out, I finished last place in an Aurora again (didn't even finish a lap...I was messing around).....got 138 REC.

Yep. rivethead, you probably already know, but just in case the Gladius is an extremely stable ship. I've actually won a couple of 8 person OV races in my "rental" (I was dumb enough to rent one just before the "Free Fly" week.)

Well, I'm diving in with an Aurora LN... wish me luck. 😀

Good luck. I love my Aurora LN but remember....it's the (by far) slowest damn ship in the galaxy. Max speed of 150 m/s.....you creep along.

True story from this weekend. I was able to get into an Old Vanderval race match Saturday morning. I was flying my Aurora. Everyone else was in a Gladius.

I didn't know this until then, but somehow you can chat and the text will pop up on the HUD.

Right before the race started I see this on my HUD:

"Morning fellas....."
"Wait is that a f*cking Aurora?"
"Dude you're brave......"

I finished last but couldn't stop laughing the entire race.

Yeah. Good story. I sometimes end up in the Gladius by mistake (the system's mistake, not mine - it's a bug) and I've been asked "how's racing that Gladius going for you?"

Depends on the make-up of the race.

Anyway, backslash to open your text, uh, buffer I suppose, enter key to send it, and single quote to get out of text mode (works for me, different keyboard styles have different key combos).

Ah...thanks. Good to know. Now I can start trash talkin' as I'm cruising my Aurora around the track...

Heh tell me about it. This thing is a snail, but a good starter I suppose. I might pick up one more ship if any other specials come out. We'll see, but after reading tons about this game, I'm looking forward to it. Using an Oculus with this would probably be heaven lol.

I backed this game a long time ago for 30 bucks or something but I couldnt imagine giving that much money to this guy.

This is his current track record:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0490087/?ref_=nm_flmg_prd_5 <---- 22 million spent. Never released.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462465/?ref_=nm_flmg_prd_6 <---- 50 million spent. Made 160k at box office

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0785077/?ref_=nm_flmg_prd_7 <--- 7 million spent made back 5.5 million

This guy knows how to burn money.
Um, those are films and I don't see CR in them? 😕

The Outlander(2008) and The Punisher(2004)look pretty cool. They totally flew under my radar. I'm a huge sci-fi/fantasy fan even the cheesy/campy stuff so I'm going to check them out. Thanks JSt0rm.

Outlander actually is a good movie. It just had horrible advertising (i.e. none). They have most likely made up any losses at the box office in home sales, especially once it hit HBO/Showtime/Stars and people actually saw it. I also find it hard to say anything in connection to Black Water Transit and Chris Roberts. There must be 5 or 6 lawsuits related to that film and the one involving Chris Roberts and his company was settled out of court and supposedly in Roberts's favor.

That's what a lot of the reviews are saying. I'm not sure how I missed this one. I mean I'm not expecting ground breaking cinema or it to change the way I think about life but it looks ok. I found a copy on ebay for $6 shipped so what the hell.
