Credit to slickdeals, where I found most of this information

Staples is running some pretty good deals right now,

$100 ($75 after coupon) for Western Digital 1TB My Book? Essential Edition? 2.0 External

and

$100 ($75 after coupon) for Western Digital 500GB My Passport? Essential? Portable Hard Drive

and

$100 ($75 after coupon) for Seagate FreeAgent? 1TB Desk External Hard Drive

If you do not already have a $25 off coupon you need to get one off eBay or go to the below link and buy one for a $1. I do not know if there is a way to get this $25 off copon code for free, I checked and read through most of the slickdeal threads and everybody else is paying for the 1 time use coupon codes so I do not think there is a way to get it for free.

Staples $25 off $100 Coupon by SDer Delivery

I purchased one of the $25 coupons from the website above for a $1 using PayPal because all the people on slickdeals.net said it worked fine, so I did, and as soon as you pay, you get the $25 coupon code in your e-mail. The $25 off coupon is for orders $100 or more, so you will need to add a filler item to your cart, since the hard drives are $99.98 each.

Filler items:

.29 cent Tape Dispenser Core

.59 cent Eraser

*EDIT* I had a link to the $90 off $300 or more coupon here but a moderator deleted it, I'll upload the coupon to a file upload place.

http://www.filefactory.com/fil...aples-_90-off-_300_pdf

A BIG YMMV, since you are not suppose to use printed coupons, but alot of times the cash register person will just scan the bar code and not even care. A person on slick deals used it for a laptop and got the $90 off, so it does work.

Pretty good deal if you went to the store, bought three of the hard drives at ~ $100 each for a total of $300, and was able to use the $90 coupon to make it $210 (before tax) for 3 TB of external USB 2.0 storage.

Here are some of the slickdeal threads that have tons of pages of people discussing the items/coupons:

Unfortunately, the 1TB WD external already has a coupon code applied ($15 off) - has anyone had luck with stacking?

Had no problem this morning, but my coupon was actually mailed to me ($25). Everyone at SD is getting them just fine, from what I can tell.

Yeah, it works fine. Did you read my post? You have to add a filler item, then apply the coupon, it will work fine.

The hard drives are $99.98 after the instant savings, but you have to make your total order at least $100 in order to apply the coupon. You can't just add the hard drive to your cart and add the coupon, will not work. So add hard drive, add cheap item like 29 cent Tape Dispenser Core, then check out and apply the coupon. Order will be ~ $80 after tax.

ordered myself the 1tb seagate, fyi for anybody deciding which one, the western digital only has a 1 year warranty, instead of the 5 year warranty on the seagate

if you do get the 1tb seagate, ignore the specs where it says it has USB 2.0/FireWire/eSATA, because it doesn't. it only has a usb 2.0 connector

A very good deal when combined with the Staples $25 off card I just received in the mail. No eSata drives available, but good for gifts to family members. Thanks OP

I recall telling my self this with many a generation of Seagates, and then being rewarded with "click, click, click". But...WD hasn't had a spotless record either, so its pretty much superstition at this point.

Can you use the coupon twice (by getting a second coupon)? I bought one drive and may want to buy another. I guess you might have to make another account?

Not sure, I was reading even if you create another account, Staples is good at tracing orders to the same address and person. You might want to check slickdeals and go into their hot deals forum and see what people say.

I would give you a direct link, but apparently Anandtech is gay about having links to other hot deal sites, as my other links were all deleted. What a stupid rule, I try to provide links to people to give them more information, and they are all deleted. It's not like I created a post and it's only content was a link to another hot deal site.

I saw this for those of you that want to buy 2 hard drives, using 2 coupons.

"This coupon only works if you have NEVER used ANY $25 off $100 Coupon (It SHOULD work on an account that you've used a $25 off $75 Coupon) on your account before. If you have, either make A NEW ACCOUNT, or try guest checkout."

So if you get another $25 off $100 coupon, create another account and try it. If it doesn't work, then print the coupon off, and go to the Staples store to use it.

Why not check out as "guest" (per folks on SD)?

That works as well, I guess no need to create another account

I got my WD 750 GB for $58.85 after coupon. I get coupons emailed to me from Staples Rewards. By the way the online, phone only coupons work in store also. Just bring the code rather than a printed coupon. The store cannot tell the difference. Thanks for the heads up. I got 2 of these external drives and yesterday got a 19" LCD for $80 after coupon.

Staples is out of stock on everything.

And I wasted a dollar buying the #$!#$!#%$@#$!$~ coupon.

My own fault. In future, first check product availability, then buy coupon.

Dammit!

Well my "local" store supposedly has it in stock.

So I guess I have to drive 22 miles to get this thing.

Lesson: check the stores, you might get lucky.

Even though the website said my "local" store had some......I was suspicious.

I called the store and sure enough....they were out of every HD on sale. At least I didn't make the 22 mile drive to my local store.

<Rant On>

This is the same sh*t Staples and other stores pull all the time. They have a great sale on something to get your attention, but in reality they have like 10 in stock nationwide. But they try and get you in the store like that. I hate it and we customers deserve better. You'd think they would be more careful about pleasing customers in this economy.....

<Rant off>

Has anyone used the $25 off coupon at the Staples store when checking out at the register? Or is the coupon only good online?

I was about to go get one here in about an hour or so since they have several of the Western Digital 1 TB external in stock.
