Anyone curious as to the 1TB drive in the MY Book, it's a WD10EAVS Caviar Green running at 5,400 rpm with 8MB cache. It's not the 7,200 rpm and 16MB cache that Staples listed it as when selling it, damnit! :|
Interesting. My WD 6400AAKS was giving "S.M.A.R.T. Capable But Command Failed" errors after I flashed my A7GM-S mobo to BIOS P11 (AM3 support). Couldn't boot off of the HD, thought that maybe the HD had died.Originally posted by: dualsmp
Think I'm going to return the WD 1 TB drive. I stumbled across this looking for updated firmware. I don't need a 1 TB of data going down the tubes in 6 months. :frown:

Just picked up the Seagate drive at the local Staples for $80.36 out the door. Didn't have any problems w/ the coupon.

Wow... Way to poop on my parade... Thanks though. I now understand why this damned thing is so slow. I was trying to back up my HD's contents to the MyBook yesterday, and even after 18 hours of copying, I couldn't even back up 50% of the 320gb I was trying to back up. I eventually canceled, because I couldn't take the wait anymore.
Then again, the main reason why I bought the MyBook is for playing videos off of it with my WD Media Player. For this purpose, it's more than adequate, and there is no other 1Tb WD external HD's for the same low price anywhere. I went for the WD on purpose because I though it would be better for compatibility reasons for the media player.
Staples should be sued for misinformation.. I'm sure they are covered against that though.
