Squats: Toes pointing forward vs 45 degrees

I've adjusted my stance a touch wider than before and point my toes outward even more, and it feels even better.

It really just comes down to anatomy and what you feel comfortable with. I don't think there's any set stance width or toe direction (as long as they aren't pointing inward).

This is pretty much it. I find that a wider stance with toes at a 30-45 angle engages the hammys more though.

The important thing is to make sure that your knees track over your feet and that you don't bow them in or out.

Remember that there is something called a sumo squat where the feet are farther out and pointed out more. There is no problem erring towards this form.
 
For years I've been squatting toes straight forward. After having a knee issue from running last year, I've struggled with knee pain running and lifting. Saw an ortho, 2 PT's, and finally my sports chiro got me back on the right track. (Had to do with glute activation)

I haven't had any issues and find it to be more comfortable with feet pointing out about 30 degrees now. Can't say it's all because of that - also making sure I keep the knees out vs buckling in as well. I actually prefer the toes out at 30 degrees now. The sports chiro made a lot of good points about everyone's different body type - do what works well for you.

I always had feet straight because I think the arnie encylopedia said to but now I think it's wrong and they should be pointed out quite a lot.
 
I have to have my toes angled apart a bit or I can't achieve sufficient depth.
