I've adjusted my stance a touch wider than before and point my toes outward even more, and it feels even better.
It really just comes down to anatomy and what you feel comfortable with. I don't think there's any set stance width or toe direction (as long as they aren't pointing inward).
This is pretty much it. I find that a wider stance with toes at a 30-45 angle engages the hammys more though.
The important thing is to make sure that your knees track over your feet and that you don't bow them in or out.
Remember that there is something called a sumo squat where the feet are farther out and pointed out more. There is no problem erring towards this form.
