Thanks for posting deal...Bought two to use for my new video editing rig. Now need to find a good deal on SSD. Can you use the $15 coupon more than once? Maybe I'll buy another two.

wut? It's not for cosmetic happiness. It's for getting a working drive that will last. Did they pack yours like they did mine? This is a major problem with etailers these days. NE, TD, Ewiz and more are packing these large cap HDs like it's a little $2 4GB thumb drive. These large drives cannot handle the shock.

I don't think packaging matters much. You can play football with these things with no ill effects. See page 10 of the link below. Non-operating shock G's in 0.5 msec is 600. I don't know what that that calculates to be, but I'm quite sure it is more than the UPS guy throwing the drive into his truck.

My understanding of failures is - drives will fail according to a bell curve. Some will fail very quickly, most will last a while, a few could last a long long time. But not based on mishandling in the packing box.

This highly depends on what kind of failures we are talking about.
You can kill a drive, that is off, from a distance of a few inches, I know, I have seen this happen.

How about what seagate says on how to pack drives ?
Use original packaging when possible, such as packaging sent with Advanced Replacement Order:

* Enclose each drive in an ESD (electrostatic discharge) bag, in an anti-static plastic shell (SeaShell) or anti-static bubble wrap.
* Secure each unit in 2 inch-thick foam rubber in a corrugated box. Do not use popcorn, peanuts, bubble wrap or newspaper. If packaging more than one drive, use a separate container for each drive.
* Print the order number on the outside of each box.
* For more information on how to pack your unit, please view: http://www.seagate.com/support/service/pdf/pack.pdf

Seagate will NOT send a drive in a box with some paper to "pad" it. They send 2" thick foam for the RMA drive that I had.
I also highly doubt Segate will go through the extra expense, if they don't have to.

Page 18 of that doc. Big difference than when being shipped. Maybe they could add a shock test for the UPS guy kicking the drive packed in a dinky shipping box.

2.10.6 Shock
All shock specifications assume that the drive is mounted securely with the input shock applied at the drive
mounting screws. Shock may be applied in the X, Y or Z axis.

In for 1, great drive at a great price. I previously bought one for another build and I like it as much as my own WD Caviar Black.

Okay, my first order with "Superbiiz/Ewiz" is not going too well. I had a call from them and an email that says my shipping address was not on file with my credit card company. I called my CC up, and my shipping address is the same as my billing address. So I call Superbiiz up, can barely understand the person, and they say they will try to call my credit card company again. I've never had any problem like this with Newegg or other E-tailers. Is Superbiiz fairly reputable or do they do this kind of thing a lot?

Update: They called back 2nd time, and still say address is not correct. I called my CC, and they said that Superbiiz was trying to authorize $0 on the card. That it has to be at least $1 authorization. Also, they said to try putting my apartment number first, then street address on second line. If they can't get it authorized, I'm going to just order them from Newegg for a little more money and be done with it. At least at Newegg, I don't have to deal with stuff like this.

Update2:Okay, finally it looks like they got it right, and my order should be shipping soon!

i have probably ordered from them 100 times, never had a problem... their inventory system was a little weak ~5 years or so ago, but they're a pretty upstanding outfit as far as i'm concerned...

I don't want to take this too far off topic. But I interpret this area of the doc as: you can apply 600 Gs of shock to the HD chassis without damage if it is mounted correctly. But if you hammer it, you might dent it, or smash the control board. So the 600 Gs does not apply to any application of force. Similarly, if the UPS guy were to impale the shipping box onto a wrought iron fence post, even if 600 Gs of force is not applied, he might succeed in breaking the drive.

Regarding Seagate recommend you use 2" of padding... good question. They might decide to do it for customer service and image. So folks wouldn't go online and say that when Seagate RMA'd your drive, they sent it in a bare box. Uh... like ewiz does. They don't have to tell you to do the same, but it doesn't cost them anything to do so.

Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread any more than I have. I got one of these a few weeks ago when it was $55. I'm very happy with the drive.

Same exact thing happened to me. As far as I'm concerned, it's stupid and just causes hassle. I saw that clause on their website, called my CC to "authorize" my school address, and since my cc company doesn't have the capability to do it I just had ewiz ship to my parent's in MN. They'll have to ship it all the way down here to OK, but what the hell I'll wait an extra 3 days to save twenty bucks. Then I get a call that says that my address--the only one ever attached to the CC and incidentally one that had been confirmed less than an hour before by my CC company--does not match. Could barely understand her, she said something like "call back later," and I said just try it again, and she hung up. No call again, but I got an email that said it has shipped and I am currently tracking it. Seems to be working.

You'd think they'd have their shit together these days. I mean, with how many people purchase online, it seems like these kind of snafus were rendered obsolete 5 years ago. If it's too difficult to use your own billing portal or whatever, use paypal. And if you already are using a third party system and it's giving you trouble, switch to something else.

Alright, done complaining :) Probably didn't help that I ordered my car tabs three weeks ago and the MN department of motor vehicles shipped to the incorrect address for the second year in a row, and tried to charge me for duplicates for the second year in a row. Seriously people, get your shit together.

For what its worth, I ordered one, arrived in two days, packed inside a two-slot foam enclosure the exact size of the shipping box. The other slot (each slot is the size of a hard drive) was empty.

Got no complaints at all with the way item was shipped.

I guess that I had better check mine. It wasn't intended to be used for a couple of weeks, but that may now change.

I would think these drives are just considered "OEM" since they are not retail packaged. They are labeled as bulk drives. But I would think they would be Code 100, under warranty. My order has yet to ship, I haven't got an email yet with tracking. :(

The drive I got from ewiz during the last deal they had shows up as a code: 100, in warranty until 2013.

Wonder what is different about this new batch? I got one for a customer and hope it doesn't end up being code 101. My first one didn't come in a retail pack or anything special but it has a retail warranty. Not sure what the deal is with this new batch from ewiz...

My drive arrived today in a single slot foam enclosure that was the exact size as the shipping box as well. They even put in an air pillow to buffer the drive. No complaints with the way it was shipped. Very solid.

However, I'm getting code 101 as well: This product is a component of a system (OEM). Please contact the system's manufacturer for service.

Does this mean we have to go through Ewiz for warranty protection if anything happens to the drive?

Well maybe, but No..It sounds like someone screwed up... You get to deal with Ewiz customer service now.

I wouldnt want to have to rely on some etailer for warranty purposes, but I dunno, I guess it wouldnt be all bad as long as they were still in business down the road heh.

I was considering this drive, but much less so now with the apparent warranty issues.

The people who got this drive (me included) should keep this thread updated if problems develop. This drive has a great rep, and saving an extra twenty bucks is worth the chance as far as I'm concerned. Plus, people seem to be generally saying that ewiz is reputable. We'll see what happens.

I just received my two this afternoon. Packaging was very acceptable; both drives sloted into heavy foam that filled the shipping box which was well sealed and even strapped. Both showed "101" on the warranty check (Thanks her209). As I've never had any drive fail under warranty (knock on wood), I may just ignore it. I'm planning on using them in a RAID 0 anyway. :)

Deal is done now. Damn missed it by a day. I am in love with these F3's and wanted a couple more for my WHS box.
