It sounds like you're one of those kids that thinks he's entitled to everything. Guess what, your life is going to suck.

2 weeks ago I got a speeding ticket for doing 60 in a 35 zone. I'm 17 and if you are unfamiliar with the penalties for speeding with a JOL they are ridiculous:

90 day suspension of license
ticket fee
$500 reinstatement fee
insurance hike
SCARR course

Now, I don't want to hear anything on the ethics of speeding, I just want some advice as to what I can do to appeal the ticket. As of now, the only thing I can think of is telling the magistrate that I'm a good kid, don't drink etc. and need the car to drive to school, swim practice and drive my brothers around.

Thanks in advance.
If it helps I got the ticket on soldiers field road in Brighton, MA.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

If I was the judge I would suspend your license for a year if you tried to explain that bullshit "good kid" "Need my car to go to swim practice" shit.

No sympathy.

You screwed up. Pay the fine, do without the license for a while, deal with the higher insurance, take the course. Next time, use your brain and think before you act.

I seriously think that we need to start whipping speeders. Maybe if we publicly flogged these bastards than they would stop with their horrible crime. I mean its common sense, everyone knows that by going 5mph above the speed limit you increase your chances of running over a little girl and her dog by 4000%. Everyone on this forum should also serve as moral compass for speeders, because you are all without fault.

No we are not without fault but if you speed and are pulled over be prepared to deal with it. And he wasn't doing just 5 mph over (in that case I'd have some sympathy because 5mph is like nothing especially considering many cars are off by a couple mph in the first place one direction or the other). But he was way over, so no sympathy there.

Perhaps you missed the "60 in a 35". There are neighborhoods here with that speed limit, and imagining that speed in it makes me wish a cop was there.

Also, I took responsibility in my speeding ticket. I remember ATOT actually being very kind to me too, over it.

there is a huge diff between 60 in a 35 and 80 in a 75 or 40 in a 35

No, it's not that we think speeding in an unforgivable crime, it's that if you get caught doing it you should at least have the responsibility to fess up to. Speeding is knowingly breaking law. When you break the speed limit you should be prepared to deal with the consequences of getting busted.

It's not that we aren't without fault, it's that we ADMIT our fault rather than try and play the innocent ones.

Maybe I've just been lucky but, everywhere I've lived and gotten a ticket, the court clerk has given me a break on fines and points. I've never gone to court over a fine.

Exactly. OP, you are a young and presumably not very skilled driver...you need to EARN your way into a real driver's license by showing enough self-control not to do stupid stuff for a few months!

Sounds to me like the system is working.

Hey, I speed, and I won't deny it. I also tried to work things out to my best advantage when I got caught speeding more than I usually do (which I KNEW was dumb when I did it), and ended up paying a fine, getting no points in my license, and having to drive REALLY carefully for a year lest the full fine and points got slapped straight back on my record.

Well, I drove really carefully, for a year. No tickets since. The risk to reward ratio was just too high for me to do stupid stuff while on a deferred finding.

No one "needs" to drive. No one. It's much more of a convenience for some than others, and some people would have to make fairly dramatic life changes if they could no longer drive, but it's still a privilege, not a right. Well, you haven't earned it.

I got a speeding ticket during the first day of elementary school doing 41 in a 25... I went to court thinking they would give me some sympathy. The cop showed up and they pretty much just laughed in my face. Had to pay the entire $170 ticket.

Remember that thread about having a governor in a car set at 80mph and everyone flamed the crap out of that thread? So why is that not a good idea? We might have less whiny bastards on this forum.

Well in some locations like in Illinois, it might be possible to put the violation under Supervision. Basically that means paying even a stiffer penalty to allow the court to put the offense under supervision and then if you are not caught again they just take it off your record. Short of Crying and dying your hair blond I dont have any really good ideas. You could hire a lawyer and claim that the speed gun they were using was not calibrated properly and have it thrown out of court. But then that would add even more complications into the mix.

It will probably be hard to claim you did not know what the seed limit was and it was not marked.

Maybe you should claim to be an illegal alien. They never get caught. [insert sarcasm here]

i got caught doing 299,792,458 m/s in a 5mph zone. the cop caught up to me and subsequently gave me a ticket, took my drivers license and then took off in my car. :p

moral of the story? don't drive fast or the cops will steal your car.

on a more serious note, as you get older you're going to see the reasons behind speed laws and why you should abide by them. If you need more proof as to why they are around, go visit the local morgue and ask to see the body of a high speed crash victim. (i think this should be mandatory for all young drivers but i digress)

Hmm... not sure what you could've done but I hope you learned your lesson. Going 60 in a 35 zone is pretty dangerous last time I checked.

In terms of the others, I would care less about the crackheads trying to hurt your feelings. They're the ones tailgating and going 15 mph over the speed limit anyway and THEY think they know anything. No wonder Mass drivers SUCK.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. kid, you got what you deserved. time to walk your ass to school.

Congratulations on winning the dickhead of the year award! I bet you already speed 10 mph over the speed limit on the highway. Don't act like you've never heard of that "rule". Dumbass.

confused. Do the dickhead of the year awards always come 12 years late? What kind of a dickhead waits 12 years before handing out the awards?
