Yeah, I know that road...60 is fast but not scary on there, but whatever. You'll still get boned by the cops if they decide you're the one they want today. You should probably talk to a lawyer in MA, cause you get boned otherwise. If that's not an option, then ask me later about traffic court.

Sorry but your probably screwed. A friend of mine just lost her JOL for going 15 over on 93 south. The statie pulled her over and she didnt get any mercy fighting it. No driving for 90 days for her. Another friend of mine got pulled over going 90 on 93 north and also can't drive for 90 days... he deserved it though. The state is really cracking down on us, good luck

If you want to appeal, you have to attack the cop on this ridiculous 25 mph over the speed limit charge. Don't go the pity route.

Do some research on the equipment used to get 60mph, the cop's training on using it, road condition, traffic condition, etc. Find whatever that doesn't jive with you and bring it up.

But if you really did do 60mph in a 35mph zone, then you're screwed.

I did 91 in a 55 when I was 18.

I was able to plead to a lesser charge, but had to pay the full fine, take Defensive Driving, and write an essay.

Ended up not paying a fine so got off for $50 on the course.

BUT I should have been thrown in jail. Speeding is a FN stupid thing to do. This penalties that you are facing are not sever enough.

Sounds you deserve to walk while you serve your 90 day suspension.

60 is not more than twice 35.

Dude, getting caught on your JOL is dumb. I agree the law is retarded, but only speed really early in the morning if you're going to. Just wait til you turn 18 - there's not a whole lot you can do about it right now.

I wonder which would make the insurance hike up more... speeding violation or accidentally taking out someone's taillight with a mirror.

Anywho, don't speed in MA? Right OG? (read his profile)

"If you can't pay the time, dont' do the crime"

Time in your case would be time spent earning money to pay all of those fees + time spent in the course. You're SOL, sorry

Speeding automatically incurs a surcharge. Vehicle damage must be $500 over one's deductible to incur a surcharge.

2 weeks ago I got a speeding ticket for doing 60 in a 35 zone. I'm 17 and if you are unfamiliar with the penalties for speeding with a JOL they are ridiculous:

90 day suspension of license
ticket fee
$500 reinstatement fee
insurance hike
SCARR course

Now, I don't want to hear anything on the ethics of speeding, I just want some advice as to what I can do to appeal the ticket. As of now, the only thing I can think of is telling the magistrate that I'm a good kid, don't drink etc. and need the car to drive to school, swim practice and drive my brothers around.

Thanks in advance.
If it helps I got the ticket on soldiers field road in Brighton, MA.

LOL @ your misfortunes.

Get a lawyer. That is your only chance of getting out of this alive.

Everyone speeds. It's just how the world works. Sometimes, you're in a hurry and make a quick assessment and determine that it's worth the risk. If you get caught, you accept it. Pay the damn fine, serve your suspension, and make a better decision next time.

sorry kid, thats just what happens. Your lucky that wasn't NC, it would have been license suspension until the age of 18, reckless driving ticket, multiple driving courses, MANDATORY court appearance. 15mph over now bags you a reckless driving ticket in NC. :(

Hmm, because my insurance jacked up $240 even though damages on both vehicles totaled under $500. Our deductible is I think $800... heh.

Hey..

I'm going to court next week here in MA since I wanna try and get my fine down... According to the cop, I was doing 94 on a 65 ( although i'm pretty sure I wasn't going above 90 but anyhow, its my word against his ). This is my first ticket and I'm a straight A-student ( if that makes any difference ).. On what basis did the judge reduce your fine? Did you just apologize or was there more to it?

Thanks

It varies by state. I was citing MA insurance laws.

Well WA is the same. They say the damage must be greater than $500 for a police report to be filed and for an insurance hike. Oh well...

Tough shit. You could of ended up in a serious accident, injuring yourself of others. Now it's time to face the consequences. Use your suspension time to reflect on this.
