I usually have this viewpoint - if it entertains then it's alright. I loved Transformers and other MB movies because they do just that. Lots of action, explosions, etc but not alot of depth.
This time however, this movie just bombed for me.

When contronted with the truth many here state that they were just joking. I don't believe that you were joking. PLEASE don't recommend any more movies to the AT community ... you will just end up killing the movie ...

How exactly does its box office gross equate to whether it "sucks" or not? Lots of good movies do poorly, while many terrible movies do well.
I haven't seen Speed Racer, but it seems a bit silly to say that the movie sucks because it didn't do well.

For me this movie smoked Iron Man by far and all my friends say the same, even my brother who hates the anime liked the movie and althought BD sucks I will get this one in BD.

I saw it over the weekend.
Visual = A+++++ <very well done>
Story line/acting/execution = C <gotta love how they were able to stop right in the middle of a race and fought, talked, then fought again, then hop back into the cars and won the race>
Over all = B--

Isn't it entirely supposed to be a kids movie? I'm not amazed that many "grown ups" are not going to enjoy it.
I plan on taking my 7yr old son ASAP and I will bet big money that he will love every min (and in turn start asking for Speed Racer toys... he's already eyed up the Legos I know).

Took my 3yo daughter to see it, she kinda hopped laps during most of the talking, but since she's been playing mario kart on the Wii with us she loved every minute of the racing. Helped that we went to McDonald's after the movie and she got a Mach 5 toy with her happy meal. she wanted the upgraded one with the 6 on the side but it wasn't the week for that one.
I just finished watching Speed Racer. I thought it was great. Brought back a lot of memories of the TV show. It was my favorite show when I was 5. The movie is a pure tribute to the show.
If you liked the show you will probably like the movie. Especially if you're still into cars and remember the fantasies you had of driving when you were little. The movie is what I imagined driving a race car would be like when I was in elementary school. I got chills at several points. But I have old notebooks filled with my drawings of cars.
If you didn't like the show and never fantasized about cars, don't waste your time, it will have no meaning for you.

i thought it was cool, and i had never seen the cartoon, let alone heard of it. Going into it i thought it was going to be atrocious. Definitely glad I went. I enjoyed it even more than iron man, and i'm usually not into dumb action type flicks, or anime. Michael Bay for instance can go to hell.
