I just got back, and it was pretty much what I expected. I got a real kick out of my nephew's reaction though, and that made the movie for me. If you enjoyed the old cartoon, you won't hate it.
I also got a kick out of the pit pass they gave out. More films should do that.
This trailer made it worth my $12.
Does Lucas embed some sort of subliminal message in his Star Wars trailers that make the fanboys lose all brain function and open their wallets?Originally posted by: Muadib

I could care less that it's a cartoon. I loved the cartoon network version. I had your outlook at first, but was hooked after the third episode. If the writing is anywhere near as good as that, I'll be ecstatic!Originally posted by: jpeyton

The entire trailer looked like a Saturday morning cartoon version of bits and pieces lifted from Episodes 1-3.
Lucas should have buried the film franchise with some dignity, but he seems driven to extract every dollar possible on the big screen.

$12 to see this crap? I had no idea that the theaters were charging $12 for a viewing of this kind of schlock. The movie tickets get more expensive as the quality of the movies goes further down the crapper ...

I do find it funny how people are mocking it for not having any plot development and such and being all visuals. Thats the whole POINT, some movies are made for a deep plot, some aren't. Its like saying a die hard movie is bad because there are no love scenes or something, this move is for cool special effects to entertain kids plain and simple.

I hated that fucking cartoon, I can't imagine liking the movie it was based on.

I just got back from it. I thought it was awesome mindless fun. I enjoyed it. Screw the elitist reviews lol. They think too much.

Official: Speed Racer BOMBS at the box office.
WB is actually over-optimistically estimating $20 million for the opening weekend; other studios are already disputing this, saying it will gross closer to $19 million.
The Wachowski brothers are Hollywood dead weight. Speed Racer's budget was $160 million; WB will be taking a nice sized hit on this movie unless DVD sales bail them out.
