not sure what the problem of just going to a movie to be entertained without looking for character development, deep story lines, etc...

movies like this, Transformers, AVP are just eye candy where you don't need to think about anything...just sit down and enjoy...what is so difficult about that? Instead people just go out of their way to bitch about something.

do people actually want every movie ever made to be like Casablanca or Gone with the Wind or the Great Gatsby? No thanks...

QFT, and I like most cartoons.

I reckon the M.P.A.A. should use the advent of Speed Racer to revive an old ratings symbol: a big Roman X, meaning 'of no conceivable interest to anyone over the age of ten.'

I'll see the movie, but not at the theatre.

I used to watch the cartoon back when I was 4 or 5.
Here's the opening of the original Speed Racer

If you are going to see it, make the time to see it in a theater (or IMAX better yet).

80% of the film's appeal is in the visuals, which are quite good actually.

It wasn't terrible, kind of fun.
I'm not sure I would pay to see it again though, even when it comes to DVD.

I have zero desire to pay to see this movie.

If it's on TV for free on day down the road, maybe I'll watch it then.

I don't think I would pay to watch this even if there were MANY naked chicks in this. Even the preview made me sick.

That said, to each their own, heaven knows I have enjoy some pretty stupid movies in the past.

Christ... I never said it'd have to be the deepest and most meaningful movie I've ever seen. But I'd really like SOME sort of movie worth seeing. Flashing lights and purty colors alone don't matter when the plot and characters are more shallow than Dude Where's My Car?

And for the record, I really liked transformers and consider that plenty of plot for that type of movie.

I really loved the cartoon growing up. The Wat Bros usually deliver when it comes to being fanboys.

I don't expect much, but I still think it will be good.

so its still "serious" enough for an adult to enjoy?

speed racer and serious don't mix.

Yeah. For serious they need to do Astroboy! :D

Tetsuwan Atomu is full of morality issues. I would say it is the first morality play in anime form.

calm down there sparky...my post was not direct at you even though i quoted your post...

my reply was just a vent after reading so many replies here on how bad action flicks like Transformers, AVP, etc are because all they are just explosions, CGI, hot girls, and aliens or whatever...

they know going in what kind of movie it is and yet they still watch it and then bitch about how shallow the characters are or looking for holes in the plot instead of just watching the action on the screen...
