Yep [not that gaming is of great interest to me anymore], but company benches aren't worth the powerpoint they are presented on.

[The "real-world streaming" comparison was a little funny though.]

I was waiting for Lisa Su to say that the benchmarks for Navi were done on AMD CPUs as a way of driving home that AMD really does think they have the best gaming CPUs.

And I second the streaming part of the CPU presentation as funny. Best part of her whole speech. The differences were so stark that I'm sure reviewers will be eager to recreate it.

So, not counting "ties" Ryzen wins 3 and 9900k wins 2 if I am correct. About what I expected, but those ARE AMD slides. We still have to wait for independent benchmarks.
It tells me what I want to know though. Even if it loses most it's going to be either 40% cheaper and 98% the performance or it's going to be 33% more cores for the price and same 98%. No more 90% on a lot but down 20-25% on a some games.

And there it is! Saving it for the end, the 16 core CPU. There really is a 3950X!

Available in September for $749.

AMD-Ryzen-9-3950X-16-core-CPU.jpg

If they can do this at 10% average lower frequencies then it s litteraly the end of the game for Intel as far as perf crown goes, and that s in games wich was their last stronghold thanks to clocks..

Petty much, the 9900K runs at 4.7Ghz ACT out of the box, while the 3900X hits 4.6Ghz on 2 cores...... Its likely 4.2-4.4Ghz ACT...

At least it isn't $799. Whew, not buying that one. Sorry AMD, you can't have that much of my money. I already paid for Radeon VII for crying out loud.

Great! 3950X price will come down with time, but this gives me hope I will be able to afford 32 core ThreadRipper this year :)

Pretty sure it will definitely go over $2000, but doesn't look like it will come out this year. Well, if you are talking about 2990wx, it might go down to $1500 but I doubt it would go under that.

I just got a 2990wx for $900 (lucky deal) but it was buy-it-now for $1350 with a water block, and I offered $1200 and it was accepted. Then I got a refund after some problems that I won't go into. There is another at $1350 right now. I think that will be the going price tops for a while.

Edit: was any date set for the NDA expiration ?

Yeah, I just noticed that deal on ebay, though I was talking about regular prices on typical online shops...better deals would definitely come out on ebay time to time.

it's very impressive that they managed the 16c CPU under 105W with those high boost clocks and all,
and still on AM4;

the records are cool, but the more interesting thing would be to know the max under load OC on air, not even thinking of just the 16c CPU but more on the cheaper ones (6/8c), as to how well it can compete with Intel stuff for gaming on OC vs OC

Same here, this is the only reason I haven't jumped ship and returned my newly purchase threadripper build.
I plan to snag me up one of those 2990wx cpus once they drop to around $1000.00.
I am also interested in threadripper 3000 if that is ever gonna be a thing.
Would be pretty awesome to get the Ryzen 3000 ipc and speed uptick and lower TDP on threadripper.

Nice.

I wonder how that insane memory controller behaves on most X470 boards and the odd one out X370 C6H with its T-topology layout.

Sounds like there is a sweet spot where the IF is at 1:1 ratio which gives the best perf. Anything above that and it drops to 2:1 and reduces gaming and other latency sensitive applications.

A pretty nice option for some though. Looks like I'll be sourcing 3733 to get the most gaming perf.

So supposedly AMD ran the bench marks with none of the performance robbing security patches, MCE off, and no windows scheduler fix. We'll shall see come review day.

Yeah, my intuitive sense is that things will more or less even out, but the error bars are pretty huge.

Since the memory controller is very robust, I wonder if it can do 3733 with all memory slotsfilled. That would be awesome.

Well the 3950x seems to be bad value. From 3700x to 3900x you get 50% more cores for 51% more $. From 3900x to 3950x you get 33% more cores for 50% more $.
