VCZ terrible math aside, those RTX3000 cards aren't looking as hot as I thought they'd be. 🙁 God I hope AMD has an answer. I knew something was too good to be true with Nvidia.

It certainly seems as though NVIDIA have left the door open for AMD to bring it. I hope they deliver because I doubt they'll get another chance like this

Indeed. I'd watched JHH's presentation a dozen times now. It's well rehearsed, but the data they showed didn't quite make sense and their emphasis on specific language use was peculiar. The pricing made little sense. I very much doubt SS is so cheap they can afford to give it away, especially with all the R&D they paid into, not to mention they could have a smaller revenue stream to pay off for the Mellanox acquisition. The entire nvidia launch stinks of something funny going on. JHH and nv would never feel remorse for high prices. For everyone one person not wanting to pay the high prices, there are three who would.

Maybe cuz they do know what is about to happen?

Maybe the one weirdo on this forum was not wrong, after all? 😉

True, but usually the run would be higher prices. This time it seems the rub is the cards arnt *quite* as powerful as they made out.

NVIDIA is usually a well executing machine when it comes to performance targets and generational evolution

It's disappointing that AMD has not released any real details of their cards. October 27th is too long for me to wait for an announcement; I hope to be able to snag a 3080 before then (perhaps). The more rationale side tells me to wait:-

1. There are no independent reviews out for the 3000 series
All current "reviews" looks sponsored
2. The power requirements are a bit concerning
Good to have a better cooling solution; but what's behind the overall increase?
Is the Samsung process not as power efficient? Is this the Achilles heel?
3. The 10GB of RAM may be a bit low (12GB would have been a bit more comfortable)

I'll pass on trying to get the 3080 on release date if no independent reviews are available...... this just doesn't smell right. Why is Nvidia holding back the card from independent reviewers if it's really so good.

If AMD has a 16GB card that is at most 20% slower than the 3080 for $550 then that would be my preference. Given that both consoles are using AMD GPU's there is going to be a greater chance of AMD optimized titles .

I mean come on AMD tell us something or I may already have a Nvidia card by the time you announce!

the 3080 FE reviews are out Monday but the card isnt on sale till Thursday

All the techtubers have their 3080 samples now

Thanks....... very helpful.

If the reviews hold up on the 3080 then that's were my money will likely go. AMD will not get a chance due to their silence!

AMD might benefit somewhat, but they're not really known for expoitational tactics. That's the other guys thing in the end.

No new news from AMD isn't necessarily bad news.
I don't think it would be exploitational, but rather the similarities in the architectures makes optimising a title for both consoles and PC easier perhaps. Optimise for one and your halfway optimised for the other.

Unless NV lied in their presentation, I don't see AMD releasing anything that is going to be enough of an improvement over the 3080 for me to regret buying one. Sure, they might come out with a card that beats it slightly in no DLSS/RTX/DXR performance, and uses maybe ~50w less power (who cares?), but if I know the 3080 meets my needs, and I can get one on launch day for ~$700, is it really worth waiting for AMD to maybe put out a a slightly better option and risking limited availability?

Even if there are no supply issues for both the NV (flawed 8nm process with low yeilds?) and AMD (large RDNA2 dies competing with higher margin Zen3?) GPUs, I suspect the demand is going to be huge as the previous generation of GPUs have been a massive let down (lots of ppl still on GPUS 2 or 3 gen old), the holiday season approaches, tons of people are going to be building new rigs when Zen3 is released, and Cyberpunk is coming out.

If the reviews of the 3080 check out, and AMD still hasn't said anything to make me confident that RDNA2 is both worth waiting for and will be available before mid-November, I'll be trying to get a 3080 on Thursday.

I knew when I got my GSync monitor in 2016 that I would feel compelled to stay in the Nvidia ecosystem. I hated it then, and I still hate it now. But Nvidia didn't support Freesync at all and I had a 1070, so I guess I didn't really have a choice.

Anyone else feel restrained in their GPU choices thanks to Gsync?

No new news from AMD isn't necessarily bad news.
hmmmm
However, AMD does not seem to like the battle between AMD and NVIDIA that fans expect . Chief game architect Frank Azor recently hoped that fans would not compare them with NVIDIA .

Your point being ???

Well according to the AMD news article
1. AMD doesn't seem to like the battle between AMD and NVIDIA that fans expect (what does that quote tell you?)
2. They don't want to be compared to Nvidia (why?)
3. AMD has its own timetable (makes sense)
4. Everyone is very interested in AMD 's new card, and they will try their best to share information that can be done (awesome)

Good news or bad news Kenmitch?

I canceled a monitor when I realized that it only had support for G Sync, and no support for Free Sync. I actually like the one I picked up in its stead, although it is missing one of the features I wanted.

Sounds like it's time for a monitor upgrade! I'm no longer locked into nvidia because I replaced my 2016 gsync monitor with a 2020 freesync ultrawide

I've thought about it, but moving up from 1440p 144hz to something better is a pretty hefty investment at the same time as a GPU upgrade.

Except the original tweet says something completely different?

It's a tweet where he tries to speak about the 6 weeks difference between Nvidia launch and AMD launch
Exactly. They arnt just launching a GPU architecture for PCs. Their tech is powering the next gen consoles coming out immediately after AMD launches rdna2.

So many comments are about AMD launching later than NVIDIA, so it means rdna2 is not as good as first though. On the contrary, if rdna2 was not good they would launch it on the back of Zen3, so positive news on zen3 would over shadow rdna2.

No, the timing is all about launching the architecture close to the console launch. Always has been
