Anyone else feel that Spartacus' level of violence and sex is "too much" or a bit 'extreme' for TV? I know Starz is a "premium" channel so STFU about "don't watch if you can't handle it" BS. Using that "logic" (LOL), they should make snuff films (a la Manhunt) and put it on a "premium" channel for "discerning adults" to watch!
Did you just equate real violence with make believe violence? And attempt to use it as a reason why you should be able censor content for the rest of us? I am honestly lost as to what your stance is here.

And the "think of the children" argument always falls flat with me. The parents are the ones who should think of their children. Use the parental controls to block the channel. That way your sensitive family is not exposed to it, even by accident.

Instead, you seem to want to decide what content can even be made. We will end up back in the era, of 1 foot having to be on the floor during bedroom scenes. No thanks! I have the power to control the content that enters my home, and do not wish to cede any more of that authority to the government or anyone else, than has already been taken from me.

This is about individual rights IMO, and I do not need more nanny state horse shit working from the premise that I do not know what is best for me.

I haven't watched it, WTF are they? I figured Spartacus and Spartans go hand in hand.
You are Fin' with us right?Roman gladiator days brudda. Should have been covered in your history classes at some point in the educational process. Guy ran roughshod on the Roman army for a bit.

Apparently you missed several shows on HBO, such as 'Rome' if you think this is something new on the premium cable stations. Starz, HBO, Showtime - all have quite a few shows that are going to raise eyebrows. Spartacus is no different. This is what people want.

Californications - drugs, sex, craziness
Weeds - drugs, drug dealing, sex, craziness
Rome - sex, violence

These are just a few examples - and these are the best shows on TV. You answered your question in your OP, you and your family shouldn't be watching this - the shows are aired late any way. Showtime and HBO have always had softcore porn since the 80's on later at night, and this show is on later at night and fitting the same mold. There is nothing new here.

And your last comments are downright hilarious. Not too much has changed since the 90's, as you wrongfully argue - so now somehow young kids will be watching porn at recess. LOL. Great leap there.

The only thing that has changed is the ease with which everyone has access to such content. Many didn't have HBO or these premium channels then, where as now nearly everyone does. The internet ... nothing more needs to be said.

Kids should be exposed to sex at a younger age any way, because they are going to expose themselves to it easier now with new media and the internet. The fact that they aren't is why teen pregnancy is so high. The more you try to hide it even though its everywhere in their world, the more they will get misinformation in regards to birth control and the like.

weeds is not even CLOSE to being one of the best TV shows.

it was entertaining the first few seasons, but the past 3 seasons are complete shit and they are getting progressively worse.

i only watch it now because i have invested a lot into the show, and it is only like 25 minutes per episode so its not much time wasted.

the show is aboslutely fucking terrible now though and has NOTHING to do with the original premise of the show.

I mean, PG-13 movies back in the day (high school in the late 90's) were considered "raunchy" and "violent" and that stuff is now in the realm of PG movies!

Actually PG-13 movies 'back in the day' were still allotted a certain amount of nudity, violence and profanity, just as they are today. If anything I think there's probably less of it in today's movies.

Spaceballs, Adventures in Babysitting, Sixteen Candles, Billy Madison, Beetlejuice are all examples of PG13 movies with f-bombs. Nat'l Lampoon Vacation and European Vacation both have nudity and profanity.

CIVIC-TV (Channel 83, Cable 12) in Toronto used to broadcast stuff far worse than that, till their president committed suicide after murdering the board of directors (nut job, they say they found a massive brain tumor when they did the autopsy). There was this one show called Videodrome that had no plot, just torture and killing, looked so real. Strange thing is, everyone I knew that watched it got bad headaches. I never exposed myself to such filth... that which is seen cannot be unseen.

I couldnt watch the show cause I kept getting distracted by the fact that every single backdrop was noticeably green screen.

Yeah, they're 'premium' channels for a reason. I haven't seen Spartacus, but I know that those channels are known for pushing the envelope.

Some of you guys are too young to realize that these things run in cycles. For example, the original 1971 Dirty Harry movie with Clint Eastwood has more nudity than Death Race. In fact, the original '70s Death Race 2000 with David Carradine and Stallone has more nudity than the remake.

Even the original PG rated Logan's Run has a bit of nudity in it.

yeah but back then they didnt have PG-13 and you had to work really hard to get an R.
Also the MPAA has become a LOT more douchy in the past decade. So ratings mean dicksauce these days.

Because we've gradually gotten way more permissive with regard to violence, but way more anally repressive when it comes to nudity.

Change the channel?

You could whinge about it to the network and ruin it for those of that want to watch it? Would that make you feel better?
