I don't understand the corking thing... you make the bat lighter to reduce the speed? But don't the momentum of the bat and the momentum transferred to the ball remain the same?

you cork the bat to lighten it and SPEED up the bat. faster bat speed means he can get to fast balls he normally wouldn't be able to pull.

Lighter bat = faster swing = ability to catch up to fastballs

I don't know if power is increased, but your ability to get the bat around faster sure is.

faster doesn't mean more power, but pulling means more power vs pushing to the other side.

personally, i never liked him. i never had more than grudging respect for him.

now, that respect is gone. no matter what he says after the game, there will always be a question about his integrity.

not only is the bat lighter but it is said to provide a little bit more power as a corked bat will give more spring to the ball when contact is made. although I always thought it was a myth in actuality.

EDIT: here's a

link I found on the topic of corking

They dont weight the same, but they must be made of wood. Its just in the rules. The bigger/longer your bat is, naturally it will weigh more.

werd. the more he lies, the worse i'll be for him. but who'll believe now...lol.

You can watch him for like 15 seconds and realize that hes full of himself. Every gesture he makes is egotistical.

Sosa will say the bat is usually used in home run hitting exhibitions but somehow it got mixed in with his game bats. He says he has never used a corked bat in a major league game before tonight.

Riiiiight....

EXACTLY, He's the most self serving, egotistical, self promoting ball player i've ever seen.

I much prefer the sullen Bonds types over the Ingratiating smiling love me type ball players like Sosa.
