oh... i thought they used aluminium bats. Wow, he must have expected it to break then if the inside was cork...

If the bats were Al, the pitchers would die every other week or so.:Q

There would also be about 50 homeruns a game too.

So basically, if all the bats were Al, the game might actually be exciting enough for me to watch? :p

you would have dead pitchers and 3rd basemen if they used aluminum bats.
Don't they use aluminum bats in college baseball?
Most college teams don't allow it I think. I think they're banning them for highschool tournament play in Massachusetts.

Yes, but College Ball is nothing compared to MLB. At all.

yes, but the hitters aren't anywhere near as good nor do the pitchers throw as hard.

they've actually toned down the aluminum over the last few years to make it more like wood. part of it was that you can't really compare a wood hitter to an aluminum hitter. someone could be really good using an aluminum bat and then crap out with wood. so the hitters weren't getting drafted as high as they might.

EDIT: college baseball's super-regionals are being broadcast on ESPN this weekend, watch and see (and hear) the aluminum bats in action

so how do you go about putting cork in a bat? does he do all them himself or does he hire somebody?

you hire someone, drill a hole out, fill it with cork, plug it back up, sand it down, paint it/stain it

Who is going to make the All Star game? The injured cork bat or Sammy Soso?

wow, this is huge...

one of the games 3 biggest homerun hitters in the last 5-6 years (Big Mac and Bonds being the others) and he gets caught doing this? makes you wonder if he's always done this? I'm sure more will come from this incident.

I'm sure a lot more players to it as most bats break towards the bottom of the bat if they shatter due to the skinnier handles players are using.

Very rarely does the fat part of the barrel break where the bat would actually get hollowed out and plugged.

At least he didn't break (well, set) the record, everyone would be questioning it. It'd have an 'asterisk' next to it. :D

I think the best thing for sosa to do right now is to admit that he corked it and then claim that this was the first time he did it because of the offensive struggles and the injury. If he starts denying it or coming with excuses people will start questioning all his previous at bats.
