What McLucas failed to recognize is that the other people in her office had every right to take offense at her "raising the flag" without considering their feelings about it first.

Personally, I wouldn't mind. But how would McLucas feel if someone had displayed a nice big Rebel flag on the wall behind their desk, or a Black Fist, Swastika (Buddhist or otherwise), or a flag of their Home State, Civic Organization, religious denomination, home Country, etc?

It's not so much that just because it so happens to be the Stars and Stripes she proudly displayed that no one should take offense. It has nothing to do with being obligingly patriotic. That's just not her call because other people's feelings are just as important as hers.

I weep for you. I honestly am saddened by the brainwashing that you've undergone by the politically correct movement, such that this post is a result. I hope that you receive the help that you deserve to correct your thought processes.

The OP's article is probably bullshit (questionable news source), but it doesn't matter, the article brings to light the affect that political correctness has had in this country, shown in the responses of several posters. Truly sad how far we've gone that people would actually be insulted by the sight of the US flag. If you want to be able to burn the flag (which I support), then the door swings both ways, you have to shut your trap and grin and bear it when someone else wants to display it.

QFT.

Good to hear.

I bet this company's phone have been going nuts in the last day.

The person who complained should be sent back to Africa as well. We are nice enough to take you in and this is how you repay our gratitude?
Good job with your subtle racism - good ol patriot like you
Good job with your not so subtle stupidity. The person who complained was from Africa.

Always nice to see the latent racism in all republicans surface. I don't remember object worship as a requirement for living in the US, but I guess simple minds need something to focus on.

And had she been from France you'd have said she should be shipped back to Europe. Yeah, OK.

you need to go to another country say china or france and you will see symbol "worship" taken to a whole new level.

Yes I would have.

Again, we took this person in and let her come to America and take a job that someone born in America could have and she/he repays our gratitude by complaining that the flag that represents our country is offensive to him/her??

If you find the American flag so offensive that you feel the need to complain to higher ups then why are you living here in the first place? Carry your ass back to your homeland.

How the hell is this racism??? some idiot is offended by the flag of a country they chose to come to on their own free will...if they are so offended by what the flag represents, then they should get the hell out of dodge....

Yes, in elementary school I remember doing that every morning. Just part of American indoctrination 101.

The article should have specified which African country from which she emigrated. I doubt a news article would ever call someone a "European immigrant" or "Middle Eastern immigrant."

It doesnt really matter which country it was. This is not about racism, its about being offended by the flag of a country you freely choose to come to. It could have been a French woman who was offended and it would still be the same outcry of send her back to France then.

Thinking of Africa as one country, comparable to France, is racist. I'm not necessarily calling out any posters here, but the news article is racist.

Would it have made it any less racist if the article had said Kenyan? Libian? Nigerian? Morrocan? Ruandan? Somalian? Liberian? Angolan? Ethiopian? Sudanese? South African? I readily admit that there are a shockingly large number of people in the US that don't realize that Africa is a continent, but still... The charge of racism is thrown around too easily these days, which only serves to numb people to real racism when it occurs. Anyway, If you move to a new country, you should be prepared (to a significant extent) be willing to put up with that country's culture, norms, symbols, etc. How would that person fell if an American moved to her country and did the same thing? If I go to another country, I try to behave like a guest in their house, which includes not critcising their choice of 'decor'.

Yes, it would be less racist is a nation was specified.

To be honest, I do not trust this story at all. As others have posted above, it seems like a fluff propaganda piece. The Africans hate America!!!11cos0!!

You are aware that it isn't required? Also a pledge from school children doesn't mean anything, its mindless repetition.
