Sony's iPod?

I love Sony's gadgets, but I just have no need for something like this, really. For an mp3 player, I just need good power and a tiny size, since I realistically don't need more than 4 gigs at a time. If I wanted to watch movies on the go, I'd pop for a tiny laptop or something.

Hmmm...20gig sony that is big and doesn't actually play MP3s, or a 40gig ipod that is the pinnacle of industrial design...hmmmmmmmm...i wonder what i would choose...*scratches head*. 😀

Speak for yourself, fool. Go buy a Sony 20GB hard drive player for all I care. You will be wasting your money, and that would make me quite happy at the moment considering how you talk to people on these boards.

Look at the facts:

-the sony thing is bigger
-the sony thing costs more
-the sony thing has less storage capacity
-the sony thing only plays atrac3 (unless you can prove otherwise; i have read 2 reviews that said it does NOT play MP3)

The only advantage is that it plays video. The iPod was a music player the last time I checked, so video is a moot point in this comparison.

The more you post, the dumber you look. Either learn to read or just give up. 🙂

Useless waste of extra features; who wants to watch a video on that thing? What are you watching? Dumb, I'd take an mp3 player only first.

WTF is with you and WTF are you talking about? If you're going to flame me at least explain what I said that is incorrect. People like you irritate me greatly and should be banned from the forums.

By the way, if you somehow think this Sony thing beats the iPod you are contradicting a gallon of professional hardware reviewers from around the world.

Perhaps you should read the OP, specifically the underlined part. Or you could read the article that was posted, or one of the 10 or so other posts that point out that it plays mp3s, not ATRAC.

Naturally it works best with Sony's Atrac 3 format. Music in this format can be downloaded via Sony's Connect download site (which launches in the UK in June) or via its SonicStage 2 software, which accompanies the player that turns CD tracks into Atrac 3 files. Unlike the original SonicStage the new version converts MP3 files into Atrac 3 on the fly as users transfer the tracks to the player. This is a huge leap on from having to convert huge numbers of MP3s to Atrac 3 before porting them to the device.

Sony claims that transferring MP3s to Atrac 3 doesn't impact on the sound quality of the files. But, seeing as the compressed MP3 files have to be decompressed and then compressed again it would, however, be surprising if some fidelity wasn't lost along the way.

The SonicStage software can also convert Windows Media Audio files to Atrac 3, but, in bad news for iTunes fans, it isn't compatible with AAC.

LINKIFIED

Sometimes you need to check yourself, Werk, and this would be one of those times. You are one of the most beligerant and uninformed people I have ever talked to on here.

OH MY GOD YOU ARE DENSE.
It's not even worth explaining it to you, you're just that dumb.

Read my prior post very slowly and perhaps you'll figure it out one day.

But in addition to being physically larger than the iPod - an issue that has dogged other iPod competitors - the VAIO Pocket, like the PlayStation Portable, has two critical Achilles' Heels: the first is Sony's proprietary standards. As is the case with Sony's other digital music devices, the VAIO Pocket requires users to convert their songs into the proprietary Sony ATRAC audio format, which takes more time and hassle than transferring MP3s straight onto an iPod. Notably, users of other Sony devices have previously complained loudly about the poor performance and stability of Sony's ATRAC conversion and uploading software.

AGAIN, LINKIFIED FOR THE UNINFORMED

So yeah, I suppose everyone in the world is wrong and Werk is right.
