Once NES, SNES, and Genesis emulators hits PSP, there really won't be a need for Gameboy SP or like. If I was Sony, I would pay someone to write and release the emulators.

Seriously. Stop whining, 1 dead pixel is nothing to return over.

Sony said that if there is any dead pixel you can always exchange it. Besides, it is not a 17 or 19 BIG monitor, we are talking about a tiny little screen like PSP. one dead pixel make a huge difference here.

Except when perfection is not practical.

If you implement the perfect policy, yes, it will be.

Every PSP must pass through zero dead pixel policy before they are distributed for sale.

It saves us time n worry and save the store $.

Me too. Sony needs to do better. They should realize that their quality control everywhere is going down, especially in video products.

Just held the PSP today and played it a bit.

No dead pixels encountered and the square button seemed normal to me.

The screen is nice and the pixels have smaller pixel pitch than the DS, making the picture look better. It is pretty heavy. I played twisted metal black. The textures seem way blurry, even makes the PS2 look good, but we'll see as it's life progresses. Loading times weren't bad.

The memory stick duo is so tiny and thin, it makes the DS cartridges look big. It's like those mouth freshening strips. Very fragile, I could snap it easily.

No kidding.

People need to quit making up reasons to bash the best handout out hands down.
Nothing even comes close. Everything else is basically a joke in comparison.

You are right, its jealousy.

Well, the game lineup right now is quite weak. The 'Value Pack' is a bit of a ripoff as you need to throw away almost all of it and replace it with better items(headphones, carrying case, memory card), and they need to push a bit harder for UMD release dates to get to the public.

Nothing even comes close. Everything else is basically a joke in comparison.

DS networks easier, has vastly superior controls for FPSs and has more productivity based uses on the horizon then the PSP by a long shot. It also has an ace up its sleeve in terms of games- it plays the massive library of GBA games.

You are right, its jealousy.

Picked mine up within minutes of EB opening up on launch day- it has made an excellent media device to date- and that is the primary reason I bought it. As a gaming platform right now it is slightly better then the NGage until they get some more titles out. WipeoutPure was horrible IMO, RR was a blast but I'm long done with it and Untold Legends is alright, but certainly not in the league of what is available for N's handhelds. OTOH- Have XMen2 on my mem card right now along with a couple of hours worth of MP3s- which the DS can't hope to touch :)

Weak lineup? I challenge you to find a recent better console lineup at launch.

Comparing PSP gaming lineup to NGage? Man that's little harsh. While you're certainly entitled to your opinion but most review sites seem to agree the PSP launch titles are one of the strongest in recent memory. Games may be rehashed of PS2 but DS and SP are rehash of SNES and N64.

I'm certainly enjoying my PSP. I've over 4000 photos stored and one full movie on my memory stick. Once my 1 gig from Dell comes in I'll be able to put around 10,000 photos and 2 full movies.

And how much did you pay for the memory stick that you have now? And what quality and length are the movies that you're storing, along with those 4000 photos? ;)

Actually, GBA had the best software library of any system possibly in history, to call it a "rehash" is g-lamer foolishness, and GBA's launch lineup was actually extremely strong in comparitive quality.

PSP has a very impressive launch lineup on paper, obviously far superior to the DS' lineup (not that DS and PSP should be considered serious competitors), however, the relative quality is below par. I am loving Wipeout Pure, and that's been a really nice surprise, but Acid and Untold Legends are pretty decrepit. Ridge Racer, Lumines and Darkstalkers are enjoyable too, though, so even though the games are too expensive, I'd say they got close to the high marks set by the GBA launch.

However, it looks like the launch lineup is about all we get until November, and the game price point is still really unacceptable. I don't doubt that the PSP will be successful, and I'm enjoying mine, but the dead pixel issues are ridiculous, the battery power sucks, the price point is too high for the prime market, the media center abilities and UMD movies are an ill-advised move by Sony, and I don't see how they will pose any significant threat to Nintendo and their affordable, powerful, backwards-compatible GB Evo, or how they will maintain long-term success.

Jealousy is not the name of the game, Sony has a niche right now and is hoping to make all their money back on the sale of the expensive games, but to call this ode to excess a threat to Nintendo and their 15 years of success is nothing but blind idiocy.

I just wanted to post that I won a PSP in a drawing, so I didn't have to pay the hefty $250 :) The game prices are killing me, however. :(

Twisted Metal Head-On is freaking awesome, and everyone with a PSP should buy it. The best part is that you can connect to the internet multiplayer portion over a wireless router, and play people all over the world. It doesn't sound like much, but I never thought of handheld gaming in that way before. It blows my mind sometimes.

Oh, and as much as I hate Sony, don't really like the PS2, umm, hate Sony, etc., I really have to hand it to them with the PSP. I used to think handheld gaming was stupid, but I've totally changed my mind. Being a reformed Nintendo fanboy meant that I secretly held out hope that Nintendo's DS would ultimately be more successful than the PSP. But now that I've played both, I can easily say that the PSP kicks it's butt in virtually everything. Sorry Nintendo, but the DS is a joke, with one of the worst gaming gimmicks (touch screen) I've ever seen. All you have to do is look at both units side by side, and check out the screens. That one factor right there should make anyone choose the PSP.

doublejbass, I paid ~$67 shipped for my 512mb duo. 1gb Sony duo from Dell was ~$97 but hasn't shipped yet. Once my 1gb arrives, the 512mb will go into my camera.

As for the quality of photos and movie, the photos have been converted to PSP native res using PSPhoto. You can fit about 1000 pictures per 30 megs at PSP native res. If you own PSP, you already know how good photos look on the screen. I was using my Palm Tungsten T3 for photos but no more. As for movies, I normally encode 368x208/29.97fps/512kbps Stereo/64kbps for widescreen movies and 320x240/29.97fps/384kbps Mono/48kbps for 4:3 stuff. I usually have to delete half my photos for widescreen movies and none for 4:3 stuff using 512mb stick. Quality at both settings are pretty good and more than acceptable for me.

Once NES, SNES, and Genesis emulators are released by the emulator community, you'll get your 10-15 hour battery life since the games will be run off the memory stick. I'm looking forward to playing games like Zelda, SMB4, Chrono Trigger, FF3, SF2, and Gunstar Heroes on my PSP. I could easily fit pretty much the entire NES, SNES, and Genesis game roms on a single 512mb stick. Couple hundred NES roms would fit on the included 32mb stick.

All this. Coming from the guy who begs up CRTs as well... do you pick the outdated product every time??

So WHAT you can play GBA games WOOT! I'd rather play PS2 games.
I like DOS games from the late 80s but you dont see me bragging about them. As if they are going to blow Half Life 2 out of the water.

NDS or XBox spring quickly to mind. They each at least had one killer app- PSP has none. It has a lot of titles, which ones are really that good? I've gone through the critics picks- I'm open to suggestions. In terms of quantity of relatively decent games sure the PSP is hard to beat, but I'm not really looking for a stack of 'relatively decent' games.

Housecat-

All this. Coming from the guy who begs up CRTs as well... do you pick the outdated product every time??

Want to bring up the 'quality' of the LCD used for the PSP? Even for Sony it is sub par and that is really saying something.

So WHAT you can play GBA games WOOT! I'd rather play PS2 games.

God of War on the PSP? No. Any of the J&D or R&C series? Nope. How about GT4 Mobile which was supposed to be out by now? Not a chance. Alright, I'll settle for DMC- not even that? I would much rather play good GBA games then lousy PS2 games. It seems you have a pattern going- 'newest no matter how poor the quality must be best'. I was there picking up my pre paid PSP on launch day- and it is a KA media machine- just has a lousy gaming lineup right now.

As if they are going to blow Half Life 2 out of the water.

Since you brought it up, which titles on the PSP is it that blow HL2 out of the water?

Ridge Racer seems to be a killer app as well. It's sold out everywhere I've checked. The overall scores of all the games in the launch lineup have been very high. Check www.gamerankings.com and click on the PSP section.

Also GTA and Midnite Club 3 come out next month, GTA by itself is worth the cost of the PSP alone.
