Just to clarify things, Now that sony has stated that if the defects still bother you after a couple weeks they will rectify things. This a is pretty straight up thing to do. So why is there this petty bickering going on?

Being honest they shouldnt release screens that are defective (one pixel dead/faulty is defective as far as im concerned in this digital age). But obviously if the amount of faulty screens coming out of production is in this quantity it would drive the price up too much.

On a handheld console i guess i would put up with 1 or 2 dead pixels if they were near the edges of the screen.....if they were slap bang in the middle tho i would i would return it as thats more likely to get in the way of gaming....

On a display, ie monitor or TV, i would expect no dead pixels at all whatsoever regardless etc etc....these items are already more expensive than they really deserve to be, and one pixel would still annoy me while watching something as when it comes to a/v matters im a stalward for quality control, i dont like crosstalk on sound from my amp, and i dont like ghosting/blurring/artefacting on screen.....

ok, bored-at-work-rant over.....hehe

it will never stop, because so many people hate Sony. I'm not a fanboy, I don't exactly like Sony. But I love Ridge Racer on my PSP. Yeah they had some launch issues (who doesn't?)

but ranting forever won't change the fact that the PSP will sell millions of units, and be huuuuuge. Sony is a beast, and yeah I don't like them as a company but I wanted portable gaming so I had to give in and get a PSP ;)

Let me see.....You want portable gaming. You don't like Sony. And yet, you bought a PSP anyways?

By reading your post, one would have to assume that the only portable gaming device available is a PSP. I duuno, just doesn't make sense to me, especially with all the GBA, DS, Ngage. etc.... that you could have purchased.

true, but the only reason I didn't want a PSP was because of how I think about Sony. I played it, and understood it's not about the company, but the product. PSP is good, I would get a DS but they need more games I like, and Ngage hasn't put out any games really.

You are right about that...It should be about the product and not the company...A good point indeed....
Just like you tho, my beef is mostly with the "company", but I have this beef because of my past experiences with their products. Not only that, but I really don't like LCD screens to begin with, and never have, and probably never will. Add on top of that, Sony's current stand on pixel defects(and don't listen to press releases saying Sony will RMA for dead/stuck-on pixels, they are lying,I do work for auth. Sony repair center, THEY DO NOT PAY FOR REPAIR/REPLACEMENT of LCD panels unless there are "x" amount d/pixels!)

I will be purchasing a DS tho, because I KNOW that Nintendo would replace any defective unit, regardless of what it was.

I want to get a PSP, I will admit...but only because it has a widescreen...too bad Sony has ripped me off too many times, or else I'd get one. :(

ive seen 3 of my friend's PSP's in person and i haven't seen a single dead dot on any one of them. im assuming that's gotta be pretty extrodinary considering all you guys are seeing dead dots. i have a feeling it has something to do with the batches also since all of them got it in the same state and store.

I don't think the PSP is gonna be the end of the DS. DS doesn't have the graphics, but it has a ton of potential. It's more innovative, and I think once the developers start to put the touch screen + the microphone to good use (they already have some what) the DS will really be bad ass. PSP is awesome graphics, but ultimatly it'll be rehashed PS2 games with a few thingd added so they can tell us "this isn't the PS2!"
Ridge Racer is still fun as hell though :)

i don't own a DS so i can't personally refute this. but i can tell you that my cousin has regretted purchasing the DS. he regrets buying the DS because with the PSP, he could have download anime and watch it portably on the PSP. actually any avi file for that matter.

also for the most part, most of the DS launch titles were lame. and most of the games available have been mini-games.

That just shows how much you know about the current situation in the electronics industry...I don't know if you've noticed (since your probably always too busy tyring to get your disk to spin-up and/or read on your ps2) but Sony, overall, is on a slow decline in various markets. Let me put it this way: Sony is spread too thin...and it shows in the quality (or lack thereof) of their products(I'm talking build quality).
Also, Sony has never kicked any company out of the console market. Nintendo is still here, and so is MS. So I don't know where you get off with that...Nintendo out of the handheld market? How can I believe that after reading the rest of your post. What....Do you have a magic crystal ball that can show you the future or somethin?

DAMN! YOUR RIGHT!

;)

i dont even care about sony, i'm just pulling your tail. (at least i think thats your tail)

but i do like to occasionally support Xbox to piss off all the terry shiavo clones who love to hate MS like dingleberrys.

sony makes good products, i have good luck with them at least. but i dont really care.

i just like to torment fanboys of nintendo.. N's stuff lately does suck.
but i guess like everyone else (well, most of us) i grew up and like to feel my maturity ripple through basically the same games.. just with nudity and gore.

edit- o, and i dont own a PS1, PS2 or PSP.. never did either. :D N64 b!tches.
Goldeneye with 4 player (what? no 4player on PS2? GHEYED!)

i decided a long time ago i dont buy 2 player consoles.. might as well use my 2 PCs and play 2 player.
or my atari 2600, yeah i still have that and before the PS2 was launched i was HOPING They'd go beyond Atari 2600 2-player technology.
or jump in a 64 player counterstrike match with my headset..

if i buy a console, its going to be a party system to get drunk with.

if im forced to use nintendo products or MS products for that.. then so be it.
but no way in the cold shores of hell am I paying the same for a 2player system..

otherwise i'd have a PS2.
2 player just isnt better enough to warrant me to game on PC and console.

4, or 8 player would be nice.

LOL! You almost had me goin there, but I knew somthin was up when you weren't disproving my points, or even arguing your own...I was beginning to think that you were a total moron, so....thanks for clarifying!

Yeah, N64 was/is great. I still have it, and only had to buy one. I bought 2 PS2s, and wouldn't you know neither one lasted much past 1 year. That was it for me, no more Sony. I've had 2 27" TVs (Sony) same scenario, plus countless other electronics (car stereos, cd players, dvds, etc...)

I use my PC for online gaming mostly, and Nintendo for everything else (console, portable). Tendo's got plenty of gore now, if thats what you like. Nintendo Revelution is SUPPOSED to take it even further, so I've been told.

unfortunately, ive lost about all interest in game systems/consoles and stuff like PSP..

i have a dell axim x50 with all the gaming i need.. and it does things that are actually useful for me. 802.11b is nice when im in a hotel and want to check the forums or email ect

i dont know if im the only one, but www.popcap.com games are just about the most simple, addictive games out there for PC, handheld or anything
zuma, bookworm or insaniquarium.. i havent found anything so simple and fun since tetris.

i might buy another console someday. but i need a bit more innovation other than graphics.. my home PC (which i'll alwys keep upgrading cuz i have a legitimate business excuse to use one, in my own mind) does as good or better.

if games like HL2 were on console only, i'd change my tune pretty fast.

but i think im going to get one of these http://www.crutchfield.com/S-eEbslEDdO2...-bin/ProdView.asp?g=153650&I=610DV3750
check that out.. 2Gs for a 1080P TV/monitor thats 37"?
It will only get cheaper once places other than crutchfield get a hold of it.. and I cant wait to see dell produce one based off this BenQ panel.

something like that, and a next gen console with all the games being 1080 and I might reconsider as well. :D

Man, what a bummer...but I know how you feel about consoles...the glory days are truly gone. I started with a commodore64 at age 3, then atari, nes, snes, n64, cube and revolution if/when available. I also owned a Genesis, but it caught on fire and burnt my buddies house to the ground!(we were stoned, in the kitchen eating munchies, whilst a candle was burning under one of the controller cables in the bedroom. We were playin Joe Montana's Sportstalk Football 93, IIRC) I don't really count the 2 ps2's I bought, since they both crapped out on me, so I never really owned them. Guess what? All the others still work, even the old c64! :)

i have a c128. then a 286, 386, 486dx2/33, p133, athlon 700, axp 1700, now a a64 3200. atari2600, nintendo, genesis, super nintendo, n64, gameboy along the way.

thats about it for me, and you can prob tell my age.. and can see the drop off of console use after super nintendo/genesis.. i didnt play a whole lot of n64 or PS1.

my friends did, but i was prob playing duke nukem 3d on the internet on kali or something.

im a sucker for the 80s systems.. those were the days for me.

nothing beat the excitement of super mario kart on the super nintendo.. i miss those magic gaming moments. they just dont happen anymore.. :(
maybe im too old, or games suck now.

I agree with you somewhat. That's why I can't wait for the PSP Mame port. And, I'm going to pray we see a PSP C64 emulator, even if it's 2 years down the road. Every C64 game ever on 1 Memory Stick would be crazy

The touch screen and stylus is a joke. Comeon. Yes it sound all fancy and new, but it's clumsy to control for any game where you have to move something as with the Dpad.

The only thing the touch screen and stylus is good for is mini-games. They rock with it. Other than that, from what I've seen, it's a POS.

Another reason is that to use the stylus, I'm right-handed, so the action buttons would have to be on the other side and it makes it completely awkward to play. Now you are barely holding on to the DS and you're trying to press buttons and press down with the stylus. WTF were they thinking.

The stylus is horse crap and is only good as the only button to control a game. Meaning very simplistic games- mini-games. I feel right at home there.

As far as the PSP, they just have too many problems and too many expenses. I'll wait for the next gameboy.

I wish there was a handeheld that had a DS design and Nintendo quality control with the PSP screen on top. That it supported a some kind of removeable flash disk. Have DS graphics, with added filtering, and maybe a bit more horsepower. And use something better than the DS catridge medium, but it should be cartridge. And have 2 expansion ports, 1 which one battery has already taken up and another for interchangeable features, or... another battery for extra portability. And I would like it to be a MP3 and Movie player.

I would be at home there, but of course just a dream.

I'm feeling the same way to a degree...but I was more in the SNES/PSX era. For some reason not many PS2 games really capture me. Then again, not many console games capture me in the first place...just RPGS. But I swaer it was heaven on the SNES and PSX and I loved both to death. I'm not THAT old, only 19, but i feel consolewise that I have to wait for the real gems b/c of so much crap.

Thank god I hve a PC for stuff like CS Source and whatnot ;) But even that gets old fast and while i play it often, i play it in no more than 10 minute stints.

Even though I like playing games...I find other things I enjoy MORE...

oddly enough oneo f them was coming to learn and learning what it really meant to be "addicted to aim" (before college i had like 2 people on my buddy list...thats it~ now its too large for me to care for)

But i really hope the PSP will come out good for some reason...not sure why ;)
