Just start it up in the store and do a quick lookover... If there are defects, inform the manager immediately and demand a replacement.

Boy, this policy is going to alienate a lot of the casual buyers who know nothing about dead pixels being a way of life, but instead just see a dot in the middle of the screen.

I had to return one GBASP because of a dead pixel, and the DS came with THREE dead pixels. I'm sorry, every single fade to black drove me insane, those of you who can live with one deadhead on a portable screen are crazy.

This is really starting to sway my decision on the PSP. I've never had any portable products from Nintendo(GBA, GBASP, and DS) that had any dead pixels whatsoever. After going through 2 PS2's(now on my third) i'm not so sure spending $250 on another Sony product thats going to malfunction, or already come with defects is even worth it; regardless of how good it looks.

Ya, if my girlfriend showed up with a big green wart on her nose. I?d be driving her down to the dermatologist within an hour to have it zapped off. :)

At work (Blockbuster), I've noted that 25% of our K-Chassis PS2 units we sell come back to us defective. It's ridiculous, even if it is a new revision.

"DEAD PIXEL WARRANTY AND TESTING...

We have just been infomned by Sony that they will not be warranting any dead
pixel units. They are only warranting hardware defects ie broken buttons,
malfuction with drive and so on. Dead Pixels are not considered a defect by Sony
of America and will not be warrantied."

with a screen like 3.5" across, a single stuck pixel can become a huge hassle.

I agree that 1 dead pixel on a small screen is really annoying. Also, I worked hard for the money and 1 dead pixel on such a small screen is unacceptable.

I would ask whoever is dealing with you when you do the exchange next time to open the new one right in front of them to make sure it is ok. Just like I bought the MX1000 mouse today, it rocked/wobbled a bit when I put it on my desk. So, I went back to the store and showed it to the clerk. She agreed with me that it was not right. So, she allowed me to open the box and check out the new one if it is wobbling. It saved me time that way. Good luck!

News flash: Ded pixels are a fact of life with LCD's. 99% of MFG's dont have a guarantee for no dead pixels.

I am seriously considering selling my month old PS2 slim, GT4+Madden for a PSP. I think I would use it more.

I think that if they can sell LCD TVs without dead pixels, then they can do it for LCD monitors.

Actually, the only reason I'm considering buying an LCD monitor is because I'm buying it from Dell with their 21 day return policy and even then I'm taking a risk. If it wasn't for that, hah! As if you'd see an LCD in this house.

People complaining about a deal pixel on a LCD are too anal to me. I dont know if I have have any, in four Dell LCD's. I dont looke for them, and I havent noticed them. It seems to me, most people wouldnt notice them, if they didnt scoure the entire LCD 2 inches away, they probably wouldnt notice a dead one anyhow.

Now if you have a green one dead center and its annoying, I can understand that. Overall, I think its just being too anal. Dead pixels are a part of LCD. Either you can accept it, or not.

Except when perfection is not practical.

Exactly.

1 stuck/dead pixel is really not bad.

Especially on larger LCD's. It IS part of the technology. There are good chances that you wil get the "perfect" panel, but a lot have some imperfection or defect..

Went through about six or so LCD's recently and EVERYONE has at LEAST 1 stuck/dead pixel. Some worse than others, showing on different colors.

I wouldn't be suprised if Walmart said no on the 4th..

Talked to a guy recently that returned his Sony T/150/250 10" Laptop twice for 1 dead pixle on each.

I saw the second one, and it was at the bottom center, dead but a very faint one.. gray color and was not noticeable only ANY color except black and very very faint on gray.

They took it back, and Sony is not going to except it.

Some people are TOO picky.

Wow. A dead pixel on LCD technology makes the PSP crap?

Yeah right.

Go make your own portable gaming system and do better then. Put Sonys crappy PSP out of business champ.

Well, as far as screens go, there have already been a number of portable, LCD-based gaming systems, with better LCD screens. Clearly, Sony is cutting-corners in order to save on costs, with the screens shipping on the current batch of PSP units. Hopefully the situation will improve in the future.

a friend of mine has one.. had it on preorder at gamestop and its hands down the best portable gaming system IMO

thats why i'm like 'whatever' to this guy... it may not be perfect, but it is the best.

for one, sony is busting butt to keep up with demand.. even pushed the european launch date back to keep the units coming in the USA.

it will improve in the future, but right now they must deliver these or ppl will b!tch worse than if a few get a dead pixel.

seroiusly, sony cant win.

so i suggest anyone who doesnt like it, doenst buy one or builds their own ;)

Hope you get plenty of dead pixels since you like them so much.

I love how so many people on this board are sticking up for Sony on this one. From what I've been reading there's a really high percentage of people who got psp's with bad pixels. Most of them are from people who have had this thing preordered for months and paid extra for that useless 32mb memory stick (aka value pack) so they could have one early. Anyways, I'm sorry to all who got a defective system. And I also noticed that most who bought the import version have screens that function just fine. Way to cut costs at the American buyer's expense Sony.

My PSP has two dead pixels, luckily they are stuck blue and both are in different corners. The ghosting on the LCD is fairly insane, playing RidgeRacer you get ghosting trails twice as long as the cars in front of you when you are turning if they are a decent amount ahead. In realistic terms, that is part of dealing with handhelds. I mainly bought the PSP as a MP3 player that can also play movies(picked up a 512MB mem card to go with it) and for those purposes I've been most pleased with it- leagues better then the iPod in terms of funtionality.

Obviously being a Sony product I think anyone who thought it was going to be defect free was fooling themselves, Sony has the worst QC of any tier one manufacturer and they have now for a decade or so. The ghosting is a normal part of LCDs although I must admit to being very let down by how bad the ghosting is in games. On movies it isn't that bad luckily, just in game it is very annoying.

The other major gripe I have is that the screen is unuseable outside during daylight(surprised no one has brought this up). While the styling of the machine is very pleasing, it seems that Sony took a bit too much out of Apple's playbook in terms of compromising functionality for form.

All in all I'm extremely pleased with the PSP, although I mainly bought it as a MP3 player - video secondary and gaming as a very nice bonus(the level of graphics this handheld puts out is incredible, whips most DTR notebooks by a long shot).

Yup I agree. I don't plan to get a PSP, but if I did I would expect it to come defect free.

exactly these people giving it :disgust: about a guy exchanging 3 different PSP's for one dead pixel should keep quiet

considering the size of the screen, and then considering that for the $250 price tag u can get a fairly decent 17inch TFT monitor. i would expect a tiny screen and a 250 price to yield ZERO DEFECTS. one dead pixel is totally unacceptable for that size of screen

people say that dead pixels are a fact of life, and that nothing is perfect. but when your handing over your hard earned, you damn well want PERFECT. regardless if perfection can be achieved or not, thats what people want.

I have had 3 lcd monitors and only one had a single stuck on pixel. I called samsung and they had no problem express rmaing me a new monitor. I have a nintendo ds, screen is flawless. I have gameboy sp, screen is flawless. I have Gameboy advance, screen is flawless. I have been through 3 psp's currenty on a 4th to finally recieve a "good"screen. I think that the chances on recieving 3 bum units in a row means there is something wrong with the product. I'd like to see someone buy 3 samsung monitors at the same time and have each one with a stuck pixel. Although possible I seriously doubt it would ever happen.
