Yep. $250 for a handheld gaming device is too much no matter what bells and whistles it comes with. $250-$300 is what the consumer expects for a newly released game console.

They suck if they can't even get a 2x4inch lcd screen right. Where did they contract those screens..QA sux0red.

I had one dead pixel on my 3.7" Dell Axim x50V (640x480) and I paid $450 for it when it first came. I didn't bitch about it nearly as much as the rest of these whiners. In fact I just said:

"Hmm, dead pixel. FVCK. Oh well"

Come to think of it, I never even really realized the dead pixel again after that and I use it everyday.

I don't see the point in complaining over a few dead pixels. But when you consider that 19" LCD monitors with 30 times more screen area than the PSP LCD area can be returned for a mere 8 pixels...

My 19" flat-screen CRT actually has 3 dead pixels, one of which is dead-center. I noticed them for the first couple weeks, but now I never notice them unless I try to look for it.

They must've paid for C stock.

I believe the screens are from Sharp. Samsung is another possible manufacturer that is contracted to make PSP screens.

So I buy one, feeling happy again! But wait! 4 dead pixels! So I exchange it because hey, they have plenty and the third times got to do the trick, right? Wrong!! Another 3 dead pixels away.

Suffice to say, refund came next, and I won't be buying a PSP until the bugs are worked out and the price drops. If there is anything else obvious it's that the PSP bundle SUCKS ASS and this unit, for all its cool potential, is WAY overpriced.

And Sony doesn't think the dead Pixel issue is a problem!

And they're still just sitting on shelves...

What do you guys think? IMHO, the price is too high, the bundle too lame and this dead pixel issue is just one too many for me to be a serious buyer right now. Maybe later when they get the bugs worked out and the price dropped by about $100.

Jason

Sony does feel that dead pixels warrant an exchange according to these news reports.

Sony still does not want to admit that there lasers they put in the 1 gen PS2 is a piece of sh1t. They better exchnage those, or they will have a rough runnign with the next launch.

I can't get the second link to work, but even as of saturday (and probably today) PSPs were readily available near me.

Really, you think $250 for a portable game system with NO games is a fair price? No offense but I think you're nuts :)

well..u guys must be very tolerant. I have 2 lcd tvs, 4lcd monitors that i bought for others and view at work/home, and all have 0 dead pixels. So, NO, i'm not gonna stand for it especially when the screen is that small. And dust in the units?...fvck that...what happened to the ISO9002/9006?

Yeah, that's more of a reasonable price point for a portable, IMHO. I'd feel better about the $250 if it came with at least ONE game along with that movie. It really is an awful bundle, though. Not quite HL2 collector's edition awful, but a close second.

Yea i've had an LCD with two blue pixels, two red ones, and two black dead pixels. Didn't return it, it is not worth the hassle.

On that small of a screen though, you have to wonder what kind of quality control they are using.

Yeah, it's really gorgeous, and in fact a co-worker who's never been into games bought one a day after seeing another co-worker's DS. He saw it and was just enamoured with it. When you see it in person you will not question as to whether it's worth $250, if you can subscribe to the DS being worth $150.

It's expensive, which can't be helping sales, but I still think it's _worth_ $250. Its launch games are lacking, but then that's always the problem with new consoles. Selling in March is probably not a perfect time either, and then the quality issues are definitely not helping.

1 dead pixel != multiple dead pixels. If it's actively noticeable, it's a problem. It's obviously a quality control issue.

If you were buying a new car, would you be completely happy if it had 1 ding in it, but you were still paying the regular price?

If that's true, don't expect the next wave of consoles to sell very well. I dare say they will be in the $350-$400 range. It's inflation. Sony isn't releasing a $250 handheld to turn around the following year and release a $250 console. Wont happen.

on a screen that small id be very pushed to just accept it. 25 is out of the question, even for the biggest LCD, 25 is out of the question....that sh1ts going back!

Oh good luck on those! I had FOUR PS2's die on me within 90 days of launch. It really was a total piece of crap until the later generations came out with the refinements. The new mini PS2 (I traded mine in) is cool, though.

Cars are also for show and status, not just for getting you to point B from point A. I'm generally the only person looking at my monitors, which usually don't ellude to any sort of status or class.

Now, if you said "if you buy an old beat up ford pickup for 300 bucks, and it has a ding in it, are you going to want to knock it down to $250?"

Hey, it was the same $$ on all three, and in the end I did dump the thing and get my wad back, so no harm no foul :) Besides, like I said, no offense intended so let's just relax and be buds! :)

I expect the next-gen consoles to be around $350. PS2 and Xbox started at $300 so $350 is not too much higher. It doesn't have much to do with inflation as it has to do with consumer perception and what consumers are willing to pay. How many consoles have been successful that cost over $400? Zero.

It also sounds like individual game price may be rising to around $60 as well...especially EA games.

I don't give a sh!t what other people think of my car. I'm saying if you're about to buy a car and you notice a ding in it, would you be happy with paying full price vs a car with no ding? Fvck no. Only an idiot would say yes.

If you're fine with paying the same price for a defective product vs a 100% working product, that's your perogative.
