Someone used my identity to take an ambulance ride

I really don't understand what is happening. If someone took an ambulance to the hospital, don't they get put into the system with proper id and stuff? surely it's not just asking the person?

About a month ago I went to the emergency room. They did not ask for any ID or anything, I just gave them everything off the top of my head. The only reason they billed me is because I gave them my home address and SS number. I could have easily given someone else's if I knew the info, and no one would have figured it out until the other person got the bill.

that's retarded. I can understand not having that info on admission, but they must surely check prior to discharge?

That is very weird. I know my wife's hospital registers and admits people but then a person with a laptop on a mobile cart comes around and asks for ID and insurance information to enter into the system.

ambulance company said they only had name and DOB. Not sure how they got my address, either they used a data look up service for billing or the guy knew my address.

right, so I can send an invoice to someone listed on the phonebook without requiring proof.

this, the hospital he went to does this and it may be why he used a different name for check in.

Still tracking down if this is just an honest mistake and there is someone with the same name within 30-40 miles of me. Would be odd but after looking at the site provided above, there are quite a few people with my last name, more than I remember from 10-15 years ago.

if he was really bad off, like not breathing or some trauma, they may have stopped at name and DOB.

this might explain why they only have a street and no house address. it might have been a car wreck; but you figure they would have ID.

Metal. Cleans better, if cleaned properly forensics won't find anything. With wood you have too many avenues to leave forensic evidence. Blood soaked in wood even after cleaning, hair embedded in wood......

Loved those. Would call the whole block and leave messages for delinquent customers. Obviously liberal collection practices in action in the late 80's early 90's.

Edit: They also had the USPS route maps in them for the rural areas. Most helpful.

backyard fire pit... takes care of that issue completely. and warms your toes for a while as well.

Address by address, block by block, they'd list the names of who lived there, their phone numbers, their ages, how long they'd live there, and their occupations, if known.

Quite useful, because I could call immediate neighbors and glean current info on a perp/target.

Hard for the average person to stay under the radar these days with everyone selling your information to equifax. Not to mention people out themselves on their favorite social site.

OP, I doubt this applies in your case, but if you think this might lead to other acts of identity theft, you can contact one of the credit bureaus (they'll contact the other two) and put a temporary (90 day) fraud alert on your credit history (this can be done online). What this means is you won't be able to obtain immediate credit. Any people trying to get credit in your name will require confirmations sent to your home address and/or phone calls to your phone number of record.
