Someone breaks into your home. What do you do?

  • Shoot first, ask questions later

  • Call the cops

  • Hide

  • Try to scare him off

  • Cower in the corner figuring he just wants to steal your stuff and not hurt you

Alarm system with central monitoring, security cameras and warning signs. A thief sees your house is more hassle than it's worth, they will move on to the next one which has no alarm system.

In my area, very few people have house/car alarms, some don't even lock there door. Sad, but true.

If your gonna shoot the criminal, make sure he/she is dead or they will try to sue you later on. Double tap works in every case.

A little of everything except hide.

Rack the shotgun or pull the slide, followed by a "What the FUCK do you think you are doing?". Give them the option to cower in the corner while I call the cops. If they twitch in my general direction.. shoot.

Of course this is all in my head right now. No way to tell what I'd really do. I could only tell you what I did.

I would hold the intruder at gunpoint and contact the authorities. I would only shoot the intruder if they made a threatening advance towards me or anyone else in the house.

On a side note: can someone link me to a thread that neckbeard hasn't derailed or ruined?
Sometimes I still wish I was a Mod. He'd be gone.

Who do I need to pay off to get you back in? I'd like to see just one thread where he states his opinion and leaves it at that. Instead, it's a flood of red eye's replying to nearly every single thread response.

I have a knife next to my bed for this reason. Although I am going to try and capture them for the police to get. We have a huge dog so the only people that would try to rob us would be "friends".

If I'm home alone, I'm calling the cops and staying put even though I'm armed. If they chase him through my sights, I probably still wouldn't take him out unless I felt threatened. Threatened would mean he sees me and decides to approach me. If the family is home, then I'm in a search and destroy mode. He'll be room temperature when the cops get there or I will be.

Well, I live in a 15x12 studio apartment with a small hallway for the kitchen... so... hiding is not an option.

That said, I'd probably ask. I usually leave my door unlocked. I only lock it to make sure it's closed. (Sometimes the door isn't closed properly. Locking it ensures so)

Also, it's an apartment in a place where you need to either have a key to get in or be beeped in. Not likely someone would get in who would try to steal my shit.

I'd hold him at gunpoint while I post a "I caught a burglar, now what?" thread on ATOT and get a response.

This poll isn't completely moot, but mostly. The great majority of burglaries happen to an empty house. Criminals may not be smart, but most of them at least know they have a better chance of getting away with it if nobody is home.
