Some drunks around the corner felt like beating me up for a second...

So, I'm getting ready to go to bed and I hear loud noises around the corner. A lot of yelling and what sounds like glass breaking.

My car is parked out there so I went to check it out and make sure no one was breaking car windows or something. I walk to the corner and there are 4-5 guys standing around a truck talking loudly. By their actions they all appear drunk. When they see me they start to say things like "Hey motherfucker what you looking at" and then "Hey let's fuck this guy up." I hadn't even said anything yet so I guess they were just super belligerent for some unknown reason.

What they didn't notice though is that I had my dog with me. He was trailing behind a little bit because he was checking out a scent. As a few of them advanced towards my position he came around the corner. Now, he's actually a nice dog but he doesn't like loud noises. So, they were yelling at me, throwing beer bottles on the ground and breaking them, and someone was revving the truck engine. He didn't like that, so he gives off about 4-5 loud and deep barks. Their conversation quickly went from "let's get this guy" to "oh shit". They backed off to their vehicle real quick haha. Even as drunk and as belligerent as they were he still scared the crap out of them.

I told them they should leave the neighborhood and then I called the cops. They didn't actually leave and I think they all got hauled away for a DUI/other charges a bit later. Checked my car out and it was fine.

Not sure why some people get so belligerent when they get drunk? I certainly don't. Usually just get quiet.

good job dog, do your job. i usually walk at night at the parks around here. i've seen a few hood rats out there and i love walking out of the shadows by myself only to have 160lbs of meat and potatoes follow me in the distance. no one even comes close to me.

I bet it's peer pressure, mob mentality, or showing off for their buddies type of thing. I remember getting rowdy with some friends once or twice in my younger days, though never actually vandalizing cars or property. I am a laid back type of person, especially when just out with my wife or one or two friends.

Glad to hear everything turned out OK. What breed of dog do you have?

I love a good fist fight, especially with a drunk (easy pickens) but i just dont understand the logic behind fearing a dog. Itd be one thing if you had a hyena with you like men do in Africa but any full grown man can kick the shit out a dog. Why would you put your dog at risk like that?

Are you serious?

Beating up another human like OP = easy and predictable. Especially after they've sized him up. They're gonna pwn him or exchange few blows at best.

A big dog = Unpredictable. Dog can bite, go apeshit, can carry disease in their eyes. Yes if you commit, you can beat up a dog, but who wants to fight a friggin' dog? It'll end up messy and no one wins.

Depends on the dog. But as for German Shepherds, because they are strong, have quick reactions, and their jaw strength is second only to Rottweilers (yes, stronger than Pit Bull).

Any full grown man can kick the shit out of a dog? Maybe certain dogs, and maybe certain men, but on average you are going to get bit if you try to take out something like a German Shepherd and it isn't going to be pretty when you do.

And how was I putting him at risk? I brought him out there because I didn't know who was out there, and he is very good at defusing dangerous situations because people are intimidated by him. And it was't like I was releasing him to deal with the drunks by himself... he was on a leash. And if they had attacked anyway I wouldn't have just stood back and watched.

German Shepherd - force bite 260 pounds won't crush your bones, but it will be enough pain to immobilize you and cause tissue/blood vessel damage.

Hmmm, I've got a smallish pit,-64 lbs and your not going to like the experience of trying to "kick the shit" out of her, when we're outside playing she can run and jump so fast and from any angle it would be impossible to avoid her jaws, good luck on that one.. :awe: OP and slightlyhuman, you DO have your dog on leashes, right?, while no one likes drunk, bottle-smashing punks around if your dog were to attack one, specially off-leash you are totally fucked. Open and shut case in court when you get sued unless one of the youths decided to initiate an attack on you (or your dog)..
