My current system is running an AMD FX 6300, 8 GB DDR3 1866 RAM & 3 year old Radeon R9 270X with 2 GB RAM & Corsair CX500 PSU.

Update - I plan to upgrade my system to Intel Koby Lake (when it arrives for desktop) & 16 GB RAM next year.

I play games at 1080p on my LG 24" non-freesync monitor. I play games like Tomb Raider, Quantum Break, Doom etc.

I am looking to buy a Radeon RX 480 but I am confused with which brand to buy & with how much RAM. I do not plan to overclock. I plan to keep this GPU for 3 years.

Here in India I have the following choices

1. MSI Gaming X 4 GB = $ 345.
2. MSI Armor 4 GB = $ 305
3. Asus RoG Strix 8 GB = $ 405
4. Sapphire Nitro+ 8 GB = $ 370.

MSI RX 480 Armor with 4 GB RAM is the cheapest I can find here and on paper it looks like a fine enough card for non-overclocked use. Does anyone has any experience with this GPU?

Also, will going with 8 GB RAM make sense for my usage?

Since you want to keep the card for 3 years I would go with the 8gb Sapphire.

With those class of games going on for 3 more years, I agree that you want to aim for 8gb, and maybe the cheapest 8gb you can afford. If you can wait to see if it becomes available for you, the XFX GTR 8gb version seems to be the best performer and generally costs a bit less than those Sapphire and Asus versions.

Avoid the Powercolor 480 btw, the VRMs are pretty bad on it apparently. I own one by the way.

I'd just go for the Sapphire because Sapphire. 90% of my AMD cards were Sapphire and this is before I even know Sapphire was the one making ATI branded cards haha.

Either 2 or 4 would be good cards. Honestly you'll be turning down quite a few settings in 2-3 years most likely and for a 20% price difference you might be better off just saving the money and selling the card (or retiring it) and buying a new one in 2ish years.

Trying to keep a mainstream card for multiple years works ok, but you'll have a better experience overall if you buy new cards and sell the old ones.

Say you can sell the old one for ~$100 add that plus the $65 you saved on the 4vs8gb card and you have $165 or half of the price of a new card so you "rented" the old one for $6.25 a month or so. Not bad really

Most of the cards have only 2-3 months of use so they're practically new and with lots of warranty left. The price should also be really really good. Your call though.

Not something I can find in India.

From what I see considering most games are poor ports of Xbox/PS4, I should go with 8 GB VRAM. For this Sapphire looks like the best option.

They do but NVidia cards are really overpriced here. Besides, I can buy a GeForce 1060 by paying more but AMD cards last long. My R9 270X is still able to play Deus ex at "high" settings @30 fps just fine.

I would go with 8GB for sure, in fact I did (recently I purchased XFX 8GB RX480 GTR Black edition which I think is great and the best RX480 period!), however going by your personal list, I would go for the Sapphire 8GB version, MSI 8GB Gaming one is slightly better but does not appear as an option on your list, Asus is fine but always pricey.

Last point: Do check it will fit in your case, (my XFX just about fitted with no room to spare).

Yeah but that I costing me $ 410 here. Way over my budget. It will fit my case as I have a Cooler Master HAF 912 cabinet.

I can get GPUs for less cost if I buy from Amazon Global but then I will not get warranty.

I did say Sapphire 8GB as well , it has had good reviews (nitro model), smaller size at 240mm length so no problems there.

I have the unlocked bios so the card sits @1330 MHz when fully loaded at around 80C.
It is extremely silent.

Unless you are doing an extreme overvolt overclock, the vrms are perfectly fine as the same guy states in a follow up video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkG5JOneYxY

So if it is cheaper and you want a very silent card and you aren't going to crazily overvolt/overclock your card, the Red Devil is perfect for your needs.

I would not bother with the Powercolor, the Sapphire uses better components(ie VRMS, capacitors etc just like XFX, Asus, MSI) , even if you don't overclock better components normally offer better stability and longevity in general.
