Its quite funny that THG always tries to make Intel look as best as can be, and end up showing its not the perfect plataform everyone (non-informed people) think it is, but the quite contrary.

Its very dissapointing to see those power requirements, the failure of 4 motherboards, and the heat disipation.

Its very hard to even consider such a processor after these facts.

And guess what like many already said we knew Intel is more flexible with HT on multitasking. But that doesen't make X2 a failure at all...

Even though the Intel 840EE wins most of those tests, it's still not a very good sign of performance. Like Doom3 is a AMD sponsored game! Also opening and closing applications isn't really multitasking, it's memory access testing. The test applications should be computational and fair in their background towards coding for the cpu's.

The AMD is at snail pace or stuck on 180 loops of dvd-to-divx conversion, when the Intel is near 3000 (YES 3000 times), mind you the Intel is also beating the AMD X2 on the CD-to-mp3 conversions and and near matching with FPS on Farcry.

I would say 2 out of 4 tests, plus 1 near match on Farcry is declaring the Intel 840EE as the better CPU. Noting the Intel has had ZERO crashes since being constructed properly for the test.

THG is biased toward Intel. The rumor is he got a CPU bonus from them. So instead of doing legit benchmarking he skews the result in favor of his buddies at Intel.

I am not an Intel Fan boy but this Chip seems to work well for me since it blows my old 1.8 P4 in doing 3D Max renders. I would have got the X2 from AMD but I needed the new system a few weeks ago because my CPU died.

Currently the wattage in the picture 625 and at most times up near 660. The values being displayed is for both systems.

Hmm 625 - (Intel's so called 315) = AMD 310watts.

You're still the fool buddy. AMD 185 watts and Intel 315 watts was taken WITHOUT the video cards accounted for, according to the article. The latest benchmark accounts for ALL components. Therefore, the Intel rig is NOT topping out at 315, with SLI it would have been ~100 watts more, with only one video card ~50 watts more. So 625, if both were at maximum load would be more closely Intel 365 watts AMD 260 watts.

EDIT: Here, to save you the effort of reading the linked article that discussed power usage, here's a direct quote.

The results do not include power consumption of the graphics card. In case of the GeForce 6800 GT, around 45 watts need to be added when running 3DMark 2005. Using two of these cards in SLI mode requires almost 100 W more power!

I wanted to revisit this just to make sure we can put to rest who "wins" the power consumption arguement.

The quote from Toms (provided by Continuity27) states that for the same card used in the stress test (a GeForce 6800 GT) we should add 45 watts for each card.

Now using the link Markfw900 provided we should see 185 watts + 45 watts from the GeForce 6800 GT totaling 230 watts for the AMD system.

Adding the 315 watts (also from the link) to the 45 watts from the GeForce 6800 GT we get a total of 360 watts for the Intel system.

So according to Toms we should see a total of 590 watts for both systems... right?...WRONG.

The current wattage is 625, so there is 35 watts of power unaccounted for. Should we divide the 35 watts between the two systems? or is one system system drawing more watts than the other?... well I'm waiting .

If you think the 35 watts should be divided equally you might want to look at those links again. That link is measuring an Intel 840 D (duel core no HT) but the stress test is a 840 EE (duel core with HT). Does HT increase heat, of course it does, and according to early HT Anandtech article it increases heat by about 6% double that for two cores and add in a little more because not all the power is wasted on heat and guess what processor owns the majority of that 35 watts... it aint AMD.

Don't be so ridiculous. Germany is the location of the AMD plant making the X2's and THG has got AMD banners all over the site. There are no indicators that he's bias towards Intel, more so for AMD.

If he hated AMD so would have finished the stress test properly for all to see the results.
